Filmmaker and photographer Adrian L. Burrell has been documenting his family’s life in West Oakland since high school. Now, he’s turning his lens on the woman it all started with: his 94-year-old grandmother. Adrian traces her life from Jim Crow Louisiana to West Oakland.

ADRIAN L. BURRELL is a multidisciplinary storyteller who uses film, photography, and other media to explore race, class, gender, and intergenerational dynamics. An Oakland native, he’s earned his B.F.A. in film from the San Francisco Art Institute and is currently working on an M.F.A. at Stanford.
