Thanks Adrian! At a young age you recognized that this needed to be done. Some of us wait too late and the oldest of our loved ones have passed on along with of the family history. Her prayers for you all will not be in vain.

This was beautiful. The elders that made their way up north from LA/TX etc, are a testament to the resilience and strength of African American people..this brought tears to my eyes ❤ This is random but I have a photo of family members who also came from LA and the photo of them has the same background as his grandmother with the palm tree looking thing…I’m wondering where in LA it was taken.

Great documentary- she’s from Minden, about thirty minutes away from where I live in Shreveport. Many left Louisiana heading out west to California to expand beyond what was available at the time. Several of my relatives did the same as your grandmother.

I filmed my mother a few years before she passed....She lived here in Texas. I'm sure there was Jim Crow back then, but she never told us (4 kids) nothing....She told how she too moved to California. She lived with her married sister until she got married to a marine. She absolutly loved California. It was beautiful and not as racist as the south.

My white MOTHER taught me (tried to teach me the N word). She taught us hate. I see all of your loving family together, makes me smile. Hearing your Grandmother say she wants a happy going away. I tried till the end to get my mom to see black people as humans but it was not to be. When my racist mom died, it was my so called siblings who she taught hate that banned me from my moms deathbed, kept all her money, had her cremated and absolutely no funeral services. They turned on her. And she’s the parent of the two who was the better person and who taught my so called siblings hate. My wish for all families ESPECIALLY black families is to love one another, absolutely love one another and peacefully get along. Prayers to this Grandma and her big loving family.
