In this video I present to you what I consider one of the greatest discoveries I have stumbled upon in my decades of studying ancient texts and archaeological sites. I call this "the Jesus Hideout in Jordan." I hope you will all enjoy this presentation and find it as fascinating as I have.
Here is a free download of an academic paper I published on the subject, presented at the Society of Biblical Literature meeting some years ago with fuller documentation:

I was touring this area of Jordan a few years ago finding old Christian sites, including Pella and Elijah's tradition home area of Tall Mar Eliyas. Mostly lost in the hills, we were looking for an early Byzanine church that we read about. While wandering on foot, a local man approached us as asked if we would like to see the cave that Jesus and his disciples hid. He showed us an old wine cave that they had reportedly taken shelter in for a few months. At the time I just took is a curious legend. After watching this I am wondering if there might have been some truth to what he was telling us.

Have to put everything on a map, there 's logic in everything local people keep memory of stones. Early christianity were simple, pure, no church, pure Wise discussion. Long after they left their talks are still resonating over the caves. Write everything on a map, give that to James, someone will walk the Way there.🙏💚🙋🧡😺

That is pretty incredible...it could be that they heard of our work there, we have been back four times, done archaeological surveys, etc. And I have written and published this widely...but if it was an indigenous story passed down that would be all the more significant. I have never heard this suggested by anyone else.

@@dannylo5875Jesus was hated by the priests because they knew who He was and they were not willing to give up their power. So they made up reasons to have Him arrested. The priests and Pharisees had a price on each of their heads.

Absolutely wonderful presentation of Dr. Tabor's hypothesis regarding the last winter of Jesus' life and his relationship to John the Baptist based on Dr. Tabor's rigorous examination of Biblical texts, historical sources, regional geography, and archeological sites. I remember the interview about your book The Jesus Dynasty where you described how as a teenager visiting Jerusalem for the first time you wanted to walk where Jesus walked. In this video, I could hear that excited teenager telling us about how he was again walking in such places. I like how you related the relevance of the various jurisdictions in relation to the cited towns and cave. You mentioned there are other caves near the cave with the pool. Has anything been found in them?

Dr. Tabor, I've just completed your "The Jesus Dynasty" (2006) and highly recommend it to anyone who is drawn to your KZfaq talks. It's a very good precis of most of your work on the historical Jesus, and introduced me to texts such as the Didache that offer an invaluable window into the pre-Pauline, Nazorean ('Jewish Christian') movement. I'm just now looking at the photos of Wadi el-Yabis (p 189) as I start this video, and voila, there they are in color. Beautiful. You also discuss another retreat for the historical Jesus at Caesarea Philippi (p 177), and the modern park there (Hermon Stream Nature Reserve near Banias, in the DMZ of the Golan heights) is even more lush. It has a key advantage for the modern seeker who is constrained by budget and time: much of it, from the largest waterfall in Israel to a temple to Pan, is accessible on Google Streetview.

I was able to spend some time going through the topsoil that was removed from the site believed to be near the second Temple a few years ago, and watching this just reminded me of how strange it was to actually be there at these sites. How many millions of people have spent hours and hours just reading and learning about these things, and that just a few people can go and spend time there as intimately as you and I have is just amazing. My big thrill was finding a piece of melted, purple and clear glass and a tiny Temple Tax coin along with some pieces of mother-of-pearl… So it was truly amazing that we were going through rubble that was close enough to be melted in the fire when the Temple was burned-wow. Can you give any insight to what that might have been? Did the Temple have glass windows or ornamentation that you know of? If you know any Christians in Israel who would have expertise in investment into the Land, could you give me an introduction? I am being led to sow into Israel at this time. Sha alu shalom Yerushalayim, bshem Yeshua HaMashiach tsidkenu (Jer23:6)

I just loved this! Thank you so much for sharing. It seems reasonable to me that it would be comforting to Christ (who knew where Elijah fled, having watched this from heaven) to go to the very same spot in time of trouble. I think this is a very important discovery, although I have not heard about it before. You said that there were many other caves in the area. Have any of them been excavated? Might there be scrolls in that area, even though it is not a known area of scribes? Your voice is soooo soothing that I want to hear it every day! And, I especially like how you explain these passages. Are you in Israel NOW??? ❤ and prayers from America. Be safe.

Love Tabor. We should never forget that the real Jesus was an actual rebel, which was the role of the Jewish (not Christian) messiah, to rule Judea and conquer the enemies of Israel. So it makes great sense that, as all rebels have done since time immemorial, Jesus stays close to the border, when he's not in a secure area of his hometown with followers to protect him.

To understand Jesus' intention more, I have listened to the Acts of Pontius Pilate. He describes how it was politically, and actually, as he thought. He tells the word for word meeting he had with Jesus and what Jesus said to him about what must be, and why. It was read by Nelson Walters, if you haven't heard that yet. Hope it gives another viewpoint of what was their reality. It contains details the Apostles didn't know.

Dr. Tabor; I remember reading this as "the Jordan" and jordan wthout the article as perhaps a valley like Kidron. The overall pattern would suggest a mark baprism being in the wilderness at the Jordan. Matthew baptism would move closer, luke closest to the holy place and john back at the Jordan. These being types of the way of life. Its been many years, but thats how i remember it. Jordan without the article simply means a place of "going down." Am i being clear? My life hasnt included nuch conversation--im not very good at it.

Yes, what is he supposed to do? After giving them a chance to repent of their evil works and have faith in him so that their sins may be forgiven. When he comes back to establish his kingdom on the earth(his earth whom he created for his own self) should he now let them live in it? Especially as sinners? They'll ruin it even if he accepted them like that. They'll want to steal, kill and destroy
