One can tell how hard it was for you to talk about that topic. Thank you for still doing it and for making people feel less alone in their hair journey! You've shown big strength here which requires confidence (since you mentioned lacking it sometimes). Looking up to you!

Wow this hit so hard for me 😭 I've never seen someone with hair so similar to my own and it's honestly so refreshing... I went through a very similar journey, except I did tape in extensions by MYSELF at home. The damage done in only 3 weeks was heartbreaking. It's been almost two years since taking them out and my hair is now thicker than it was before putting them in... Here's some of my biggest/best tips. - Stop styling with heat. If your hair is this fine, it is not worth the damage. - Get a scalp brush and rosemary oil. Make sure to dilute the rosemary oil with coconut oil (2-3 drops of rosemary to about a tbsp of coconut oil) and massage into scalp (I do mine in the shower) for about 5 minutes before you wash. Do this with the oil solution 2-4 times a week and use the scalp brush every day for 5-10 minutes. This stimulates your hair follicles and promotes hair growth. - Shorter hair cuts are best for hair as fine/thin as shown in this video, most of our hair is much thinner at the ends so getting rid of that helps create an illusion that the hair is thicker than if you were to leave those frail ends there. - Take pumpkin seed oil, there have been studies done showing this can help with strengthening the hair shaft because pumpkin seed oil is a great source of magnesium. It also helps with maintaining a healthy scalp due to the zinc in it as well as it promotes hair growth (growth rate and length of the hair) due to the abundance of nutrients in the oil. You can take this orally or apply it topically. I personally have been taking it orally! - Don't be afraid to wash every day if you feel like it helps. It is not damaging contrary to popular belief. My hair is so fine that it gets greasy very quickly and that can make ANYONE'S hair look much thinner, but especially people with hair like ours. So don't be afraid to wash every day if it makes you feel better :) Much luck to all of my fellow fine-haired beauties. It can be so hard on your confidence, but just know we could be dealt MUCH worse cards and everything will be okay. You're amazing with or without hair ❤️

You should try arrow root powder in your hair over night (on the night of the day you washed your hair). This is the ONLY thing that has allowed me to go a day without having to wash my hair. I have tried everything, my hair is extremely fine, flat and sparse and gets greasy the same day I wash it (by evening time). Honestly it has been a game changer for my hair and my sanity. ❤

I had the same issues for a while. I tried fixing my own hair until I come to a conclusion I’m just getting tape in hair extensions. I actually do them myself they don’t damage the hair. I use alcohol it take them out and now I have the hair I have always wanted. I think you’re thinking about it too much .. go get your hair extensions and make them even longer and beautiful and just enjoy that we live in an era that we could get Hair Extentions. You’re adorable and Jesus loves you call on him.

I am losing my hair, I am on minoxidil + supplements now and I am wearing tape in hair extensions without any damage nor regrets! I am living my best life again! I had to remove my tape in due to my hair loss to find out if it was the hair extensions and tried so many oil and serum. in fact I just needed a dermatologist and I asked her if hair extensions where the cause? it wasn't at ALL.

She said that my hairloss was due to traumatic events that I went through last year. I had a deficit in vitamins D & B12. she said that my "balding spot" were not located where I had hair extensions, which is why I can still do them. she explained to me that when wearing hair extensions *the hair gets stuck inside the tape-in for ~ 1 months which and most of these hair would have felt because we are losing hair on a daily basis naturally. so when you remove the tape-in, you have shedding due to this. she told me to keep wearing hair extensions if I wanted. Also, to stop these serum and hair oil, which promotes hair growth because it does suffocate my scalp. she gives me vitamins D, B12, Dexpanthenol, biotin supplements, + minoxidil 2% for 3 months, then I see her again.

First, THANK YOU for waiting, and sharing this entire journey in one video. My thin, fine hair has been my biggest hurdle my entire life. I appreciate you being vulnerable and sharing your entire experience. I have gone through the hair extension journey over and over. I have tried several different types (bead, keratin, tape, clip) and each time, regardless of what I have used, there is obvious damage after. It is important to find a stylist that is educated, and can help you treat your hair right before, during, and after the extensions. Taking breaks and following good care definitely helps reduce the damage. I have learned that the more permanent extensions are great for an occasion that might last a couple of weeks (engagement, parties, weddings, vacations), but for day-to-day, clip-ins are a great alternative.

This is my favorite video you have ever done!! So open, honest and informative. You are beautiful no matter what but I definitely relate to the thin hair struggles and wanting to have naturally thicker hair that can be styled differently. It’s not even that really as much as how thicker hair feels. I used to love to braid my hair as a kid. Now I can’t do that. My naturally fine hair over time is not able to do the same styles. Extensions are damaging and I would rather see you do a fall occasionally. The cute cut does look lovely!!

I have super thin hair too. I just wear it cut in a pixie and it looks like “normal” thickness. Any heat styling just breaks it right off. I thought about extensions but I don’t have the budget. Hello, I just came across your video. I too have similar hair but for the past 8 years I’ve been having flat I tip micro bead extensions put in. They are from Donna Bella. It does not hurt when laying down, and there is no damaging glue. I buy the hair and have it adjusted every 7-8 weeks, the hair lasts about 9 months and I do not lose any hair when they get adjusted!. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made with my hair. If you do decide to try extensions again I would seriously consider looking into that. Best of luck on your hair journey!

If you're already experiencing hair thinning gluing anything on your natural hair is not really a good idea because no matter how careful the stylist is when removing adhesive from the hair it's going to cause more hair to come out. To get the adhesive off the hair you have to use a solvent to remove the bond which normally contain alcohol which also can be damaging to the hair.. Extensions are great for short term use but anybody that I've ever known that's had thin hair and worn extensions for long periods of time their hair ends up broken and thinner in the end. As a wig specialist I recommend using halos/toppers, not things that are glued onto your natural hair. If you have thick hair it's not so much a concern. Also braiding methods done too tightly can cause more hair to come out any excess tension onto your scalp if you're already experiencing hair loss or thinning can cause more hair to come out. Even though I've done every single extension method on my clients, the ones that are bonded or glued to the hair to me are the most damaging. To me it's the equivalent of getting a piece of gum in your hair and trying to remove it no matter how careful you are some of your natural hair is going to be pulled out. Often stylist that do not know how to braid(cornrow)will opt for gluing methods because they are easier/faster to do.

thank you for speaking so honestly about this. i've had thin hair my entire life and it's one of my biggest insecurities. you look great, natural hair or extensions. also i love your voice it's so pleasant to listen to. edit: i think if you're worried about heat damage on your own hair in the future maybe try overnight no-heat curling methods? some of them are super easy (sock method, bathrobe tie method, scrunchie method) and look even better than heat curling imo and it would solve the problem of using too much heat on your natural hair.

My routine is following, no coloring, I was doing highlights before but then even that was not good for my hair, topical minoxidil once a day, water filter on the shower head, laser therapy helmet, olaplex #3 and nutrafol vitamins. Everything else had zero results, not the most expensive shampoos, masks etc. Hope it would be helpful.

I went thru this as well. Similar story. Really a confidence boost. I had tape in and the glued in ones attached to a few strands with Keratin glue. They hurt my head for a good few weeks. You feel it's worth the pain. After spending $800, the strands were literally breaking off and only lasted about 6 to 8 weeks. I waited for my hair to heal, and pros told me tape ins would be better for me. They were not sliding out, but they caused mega damage as well. I had a mullet after I stopped doing them. I also tried a wig, and it looked so unnatural on me. I even got it from a pro. 8 years later, I gave my hair a long break on blond highlights. My hair is much better. I swear if you color your hair, K18 has been a miracle for my hair. Going to try clip ons again for special occasions. I am so glad you're sharing this with others to save someone else the misery. BTW it was primarily the hair extensions that cause the damage.

You are such a brave and sweet girl. I have similar hair and had a very similar extension story. I find that organic coconut oil has helped to stimulate growth as well as curb breakage. Also, you might want to consider instead of bleach highlights, asking for a high lift color on your highlights-so much less damaging. You are gorgeous and are blessed with a body ALL of us envy!

Hi, Taylor. I wish I'd seen this video back in 2000, when I got my keratin bond extensions. But back then neither you nor KZfaq were a thing! I have hair like yours, and the extensions gave me the butt-length hair I'd always wanted but could never grow. I loved it so much, but oh, the upkeep! I was afraid to blow dry because I thought the heat would melt the bonds, and I didn't want to shower in the morning because it would take forever to air dry. So I would shower at night and go to bed with damp hair. I slept in braids, but because my hair was damp, it got matted around the bonds. I was always going back to the salon to get the mats undone and the damaged extensions replaced. I am now 65 and have managed to grow my hair to my waist over the past 2 1/2 years by taking steps to reduce breakage. I quit coloring. I only wash every 6-8 days and use professional-grade products, a leave-in conditioner and oil on the ends on wash day. I detangle with my fingers, pulling knots out sideways instead of downward. I sleep in a silk bonnet and wear protective styles, especially in winter (coarse wool sweaters and jacket zippers are not my friends!) Some people's hair is like a sturdy ceramic mug -- it can be neglected, even abused, and will resist breaking. Hair like ours is like a fine china teacup; we have to take extra care to keep it from breaking. That said, you are a beautiful young woman and would look good bald! You do look lovely with shorter hair, but if you want growth, it is possible. Your fellow KZfaqrs Katherine Sewing and The Blowout Professor are great sources of advice, the former on finger detangling and protective styles, and the latter on all things hair care. Best wishes on your upcoming wedding.

Hi girl, not sure if anyone else has recommended Ollaplex #3 , I noticed you had gotten the #5 conditioner and K18. You can also get professional ollaplex treatments at the salon and they can even add this to bleach when you get highlights to keep your hair from getting as damaged. Hope that helps..I fell into the category of getting extensions and never going back to my natural hair, trying different types and now have wefts installed..for me, the ktips seemed like the most damaging of all especially as the hairdressers I had at the time did not cut the keratin bonds into smaller pieces to accommodate my hair texture. Thanks for this video, I definitely identified with a lot of your emotions throughput!

1st, you're beautiful. I had a similar experience with bead sewn in extensions. I wanted them for length and volume. They ended up matting in the back of my head. Before the extensions, my hair was down to my rear (all 7 strands). After their removal, it was just below my shoulders. Trying to regrow with baby steps

Taylor I’ve had fine thin hair all my life and the way to make it look thicker and fuller is to use Pantene volumizing shampoo and conditioner and Pantene hair jel on wet hair. Hair jel being the key factor also to set the hair in rollers. This method will give you thick hair and no damage. People think that I have naturally thick hair.

Hi dear, I have thin hair and I did same kind of hair extensions few years ago. It is very damaging for the hair. Best solution is to keep our own hair as it is with care and a lot of love ❤️

I’d also recommend a halo hair extension if you’re ever feeling in the future like you want more length/thickness! It’s even less damaging than clip in hair extensions.

Omgosh I literally typed in the search bar “hair after hair extensions” and watched your whole video. First off, you’re adorable so keep shining! But oh boy I had sew ins for a year, and I just couldn’t afford them anymore honestly… so the day I got them out I was horrified how my hair looked. I feel like I have no hair anymore. So much falls out in the shower, it’s so thin, I wish I would have never got them to begin with. I’ve tried everything besides hair growth vitamins because I refuse to fall for that crap. My hair has to heal from the trama those extensions had on it. It’s sad women want beautiful thick long hair but don’t realize in the long run the extensions are gonna do more harm.

❤ I love this video. I am older and I have fine hair too. I also think you are a beautiful young woman. I am just too old to get into the extensions. not willing to damage what I have. Just not worth it for myself at this age. I considered the eyelashes at one time but read how your own eyelashes fall out and decided against it as well. I just make the best of what I have. ☺️

Hi Taylor - I wish I’d seen this just a bit earlier as I just got k-tips today for the first time. I’m 67 years old, and I was born this way, with the hair of a two year old. My hair is much thinner than yours on top so I had the ktips put in just the top of my head. I don’t think they should bother sleep at all. I did this so perhaps my scalp won’t show in the photos for my granddaughters college graduation. I am now a bit concerned for the removal. Thank you for sharing your journey.

After I had WLS, I lost a lot of hair. I had sew in extension applies and 7 months later, I took them out. There was So, so much hair in the tracks. I felt like I had less hair after vs. when I had them installed. I did go back every 6 weeks to have them moved up.

Right there with ya sister! I’ve always had fine hair but lots of it. At 62 my hair has been thinning the last 3-4 years. I had Bellamy wefts professionally installed using the beads and hand tied method. My hair length was right above shoulder, extensions added length down to the top of my boobs. The wefts were very thick and heavy, I constantly felt the weight pulling on my own hair and didn’t know how to style it so I cut it just below shoulder level. I was advised not to wash/style extensions everyday and to condition them heavily which made my fine hair limp. My hair gets oily so I tried dry shampoo in between washes, UGH! Then I tried bending over the sink, washing just the top section of my hair on non-shampoo days after my shower (extra time and effort). My fine hair dried really fast but the wefts took forever to dry so I tended to leave them damp towards the root area. I also began to worry that I was not able to clean my scalp thoroughly under them. My scalp began to itch 2 weeks in and by 4 weeks it itched so badly that I had my husband remove the extensions. POST REMOVAL: itching continued until I began using anti fungal shampoos. My hair was in a weird state looking so much thinner and disfigured. After 1-2 weeks my hair began to style as usual and did not seem quite so thin. I couldn’t have grown new hair that fast ergo ‘disfigured’ hair, LOL.

Halo extensions helped me getting healthier hair after keratine ones, because I don’t break it as much, and it’s longer now. I won’t lie, they are not very comfortable, but for now I alternate the use with clip ones. Thank you so much for this content it’s very difficult to come by❤

I used to make my own clip in extentions because I wanted different colours in my hair and didn't want to keep changing my hair colour because I know it damages it over time. Now I've figured out how to do my red without doing much damage because I've had stylists severely damage my hair with bleach in the past. Not sure if this would be helpful but I use Acure shampoo and conditioner and it doesn't strip all the natural oils out while I'm washing it. It's very gentle on my hair and scalp and my hair doesn't seem to really get oily or anything anymore. Most shampoos and conditioners strip too much from your hair. I started using it because of my scalp issues. Everything I tried even hypoallergenic cause my scalp to feel like it was on fire and severely itchy. None of that happens after switching 10 years ago. My stylist now says my hair is extremely healthy despite me colouring it and using my hair dryer and straightener. Not sure if Acure would be helpful for you since it's really gentle.

I wear a mix of beaded hair wefts, I-tips and K-tips and my hair is definitely not thinner. In fact, it is growing and getting thicker each time. BUT...I will note that when I first take out my extensions, my hair 'seems' thinner. Not sure if it is all psychological or if more hairs shed than normal because of the trauma to the scalp, but in about a week, my hair feels back to normal. K18 and Olaplex are my best friends. I also bleach my hair every three months, so if my hair is getting thicker, extensions are not damaging. I will also say that I continue doing hair masks and treatments while I'm wearing extensions. Never stop. I care more about my own hair than the extension hair. I do notice that sometimes it is the natural hair left out of the bonds or wefts that gets damaged because of the styling. Thanks for sharing your experience.

❤ Great video. I dont mean to give unsolicited advice. This is my own experience i use ROOT brand collagen. I had thin hair and honestly just took it bc it was said to help with skin. I used to go 3 months before i needed a hair trim. Now, i need a cut every month. I tried other collagen and didn’t get these results. You are beautiful and dont worry.

thanks for sharing this! i'm also considering KB extensions, and i didn't even think they would be uncomfortable while sleeping - that was enlightening 😅 i have a couple of follow-up questions: 1. how many strands did you put in? if it's your first time, hairdressers usually advise putting only a few strands in so you can get accustomed to having extensions and then gradually get more 2. did your scalp hurt, or did you have migraines the week after? the weight of the strands slightly pulls your hair, and that can cause your head to hurt until you get accustomed (that's why they advise you to increase the number of strands gradually)

Thanks for the video. I just got weft tie in extensions last week and I have hair like yours. It’s been crazy emotional as it’s a huge difference and not sure how to emotionally manage all this hair. I’m worried about damage and I also don’t have quite enough of my own hair that safely hides the weft tracks. I always am looking in the 3 way mirrors to make sure nothing is showing! It’s very stressful. I have ended up wearing it back a lot as I’m too worried the weft lines are going to show. Anyways thanks for your journey story. I can relate!!

I've always been lucky in the hair department (I have fine hair but a lot of it). However, as my hair never holds a curl using hot tools (I can get max 2 hours before they drop out) my best resort is going to sleep with wet hair in a set of foam rollers. However, that would give you the wet hair issue as opposed to the heat one, not sure which is the most damaging when having extensions in 🤔 But I'm sorry you feel so down about your hair some days, Taylor 💔 You're definitely helping out all the fine hair girlies out there with this video! ☺💕 As someone who's had spots since I was 12 (now 32), I can definitely relate to that blow to your confidence that those things can have. Man do I wish I could just use a moisturiser and call it a day, instead of the 10+ steps routine I have to do every night just to get decent skin, if I'm lucky the next day! 🙈

25:13 Hello Taylor and thank you so much for posting this! I too have fine thin hair and have never had hair very far past my shoulders due to its thinness. Your story was very touching to me. You have inspired me to get extensions! I got the beaded extensions yesterday afternoon! I look like a totally different person! It is truly amazing how one can feel so pretty and different with some nice hair! The beaded extensions I got are a tiny band that gets pushed up every two months or so. They are supposed to allow your hair to grow and get healthy (we'll see). They did feel a little weird and tight sleeping on them last night, but heck, I'll deal with that lol to have a nice head of hair! My concern is that if I'm outside and the wind blows people will see the extensions. I can always wear a hat lol! This is the first time I have had longer hair past my shoulders, and it looks so pretty! I know this lovey head of hair will boost my confidence! I'm hoping that if you consider giving extensions another try, you try the beaded extensions and video your journey again. You covered a lot of my questions and were so open and honest. P.S. You are a beautiful girl and I wish you the best!
