These are some portable hand held radios that ended up in my collection over the years including a couple of early Motorola HT-200 radios from the early 1960's. Most of them are not that special but you might enjoy seeing some of them if you enjoy radio like I do.

Hi Indy, no problem, glad to help out on this stuff with anyone. Yes, there are a lot of terms like in any hobby I guess. A repeater is a transmitter and receiver at a high location used to relay the lower powered signals from our radios, like the police also use, usually on a tower. Simplex is using your radios to talk direct to each other, bypassing a repeater site, so range is more limited. With repeater, your signal can travel as far as the tower can see. I will PM you with a link also.

A walk down memory lane. I remember most of those talkies. My first radio was a Realistic 3 channel CB talkie similar to your TRC-25. Mine might have been the 75. My Grandmother bought it for me at a yard sale back in the early 1980's. 73's Paul

Cb is what's making me want to get my Ham licence...I've been talking on the CB bands for about three or four years, and I enjoy it a lot. But I think it's time for me to dig deeper into the world of radio communication. I'm going to be taking my Tech exam here in about a month for my 17th birthday. And I'm real excited to be able to talk to friendly folks from near and far. 73's

Yes, that antenna does work well with the radio, gives it a little boost over the short antenna. Flea markets are always a lot of fun too!

@BRKONTHRU2 Thanks for the comment Dave, yea, they were a lot of fun. Some of those larger CB walkie talkies were able to talk for several miles with the larger antenna and more power. I made a lot of new friends using those radios..

I also have the VX5-R with the same type of thin very elastic long-range antenna on it. Works great! really helps out if you need to improve your range. I love these old vintage transmitters. Usually i come across of these vintage stuff on Hamfairs and flea markets. 73,s sm5wqg

Sounds good, yes, the T is for Transmit and R for receive, so sounds like it has the channel 19 crystals in it right now then if you are hearing that then...keep me posted!

Hey Indy! Oh, you are not a pest at all, I always enjoy talking about things. Yes, keep me posted on how they work out. To make that radio work on ch. 23 you would need to put that crystal into one of the channel sockets on the radio. I have not researched CB crystals for those radios in a long time but am guessing they might have some on ebay if you search for cb crystals but then again, that was not a common channel like most of the hand held radios used so might be hard to find.

Yes, thanks Indy, it sure is amazing where technology takes us. And at that time, those Adam 12 hand held radios were the top of the line, small as they come, high tech radios. They were very dependable though and many of them still hold up to this day. With the modern electronics, mostly toss it out once it quits working, ahah...but it does do a lot more and really, you get a lot more for the money these days as far as what the stuff will do I guess.

@MrBeanie10 Thanks Kevin, yes, things really change over the years, at the time they were all new, that was the high tech thing and we thought that was the best they could be I guess, lol. Wonder what they will be like in another 20 yrs.

That Midland radio is a model 13-431B, just low power, good for a half mile or so maybe. I always like the Realistic radios, those antennas they used like on the 206 there really worked quite well. It was a good antenna design for longer range.

My first HT was an FT207R from Yaesu. Today I use the TH-77A from Kenwood, however it is not working well and has very low output now. Perhaps the finals are on the way out. 73, VE3RKP

Oh, and you do need one crystal for the transmit side and one crystal for the receive side on that radio. So you would need both.

@hamrad88 I have been thinking about that, there is so much to cover on that radio that I need to really plan that one out if I do, but it is a great radio. I use it to stream to radioreference on the internet for Freeborn County. I also pipe the audio to my shack and speakers in the house by use of my PA amp and 70 volt line output.

I have some Wilson vhf radios that belonged to my grandfather. He was a police chief so they may be law enforcement. I remember him and I talking on them years ago and we could hear the drive thru at McDonald's on them. They look brand new , they seem to transmit but not receive. Any idea what could be the problem ?

Those antennas worked good on those handheld CBs?? My experience with them was they had a 1 city block TX/RX capability. Sometimes not even that if you get someone with the "Mod Squad" blasting 10,000 watts over top of you.

@ImHiYrStnd Thanks Indy, yes, there are so many signals on SW that most people are not even aware of. Actually I have very little money into these hand held radios you see, most were free or very low cost used when I got them other than one of those I got new back in 1999 or so.
