In this video, I go over most of my collection of vintage, EVO, and new motocross bikes, as well as my widebody RTR Mustang, Camaro Z/28.R, and Sprinter van by the MotoBox.
Out of the 40+ motocross bikes I own, I run and race only 11 of them. That is more than I can handle with maintenance and hard enough to be proficient on that many different bikes. It takes over four dedicated hours a week to just maintain those eleven bikes. The remaining bikes I collect as a hobby and as an investment. It is just not possible to ride every bike and maintain them so I choose my favorite bikes to ride over the others.
Over the next several months, I will be posting a video a week covering my bikes and cars. I am even in the process of building a pit bike track and will give some input and video on that. I will be comparing lap times in the future riding back to back bikes like the 1983 CR 250 vs the 480, KTM KX 500 and the 1997 CR 500 vs 2020.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition, etc. I will also cover track days on both the RTR and Z28.R and racing motocross (EVO and modern) and racing the Z/28.R.

Thank you! I have a 1986 CR 500 and 125 that are low hour originals that you are going to really like! The 500 plastic is all original with the painted backgrounds still in amazing shape! Once completed I will do a video of my 125, 250 and 500 and go through each of them and how I obtained them. Pretty cool history of each!

I had a 1981 CR450 and had no idea how impressive it was because I sold it shortly after buying it. I didn't know how to ride at that point. It was my 2nd bike after my parents bought me a 1974 honda Elsinore 250. This was in 1993. I Love to hear more about it.

Very awesome collection thanks for sharing 👍 had many early KX strokes, you're right the 500 isn't that hard to ride once you master the throttle control. I find them actually quite easy as you don't need to change as many gears & just use the clutch more. Trust your back is healing well & your riding again soon 💪👍

We should be dropping that video of the Z/28.R this coming Saturday. It will be just on our first day at the track with the car and first impressions. I do have an older KZfaq video posted of my 2015 Z/28 street car on the dyno and another with a cold start. That car was running if I remember correctly over 700 rwhp. I loved that car! He is only 7 and will have his first race in March. He has been on a StacyC since 2 and has been racing motocross since he was 4. My daughter is 17 and used to race Karts but she isn’t into anymore unless we go to a rental kart track on vacation. I have another son who is about to be 2. I have a bunch of bikes but I have been doing the car thing more because if I got to the Mx track I am mainly chasing my son on a 110. @CharlieFerer
@CharlieFerer 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Darren! Yes, that is a great idea. Just to help you for now until we do this video: If air cooled we run the motor till it is warm then drain the oil warm and put in fresh oil. We remove the tank and clean the tank and let it air dry for a day. Then I spray Maxima SC1 in the tank (yes inside) and outside on the plastic to protect the plastic from drying out over time. I will also drain the carb and thoroughly dry the inside of the carb parts. The air cooled bikes are easy. For water cooled bikes I drain the radiators and do the same steps above. I always put the bikes on stands to not get flat spots on the tires and reduce weight on the suspension.

@@CharlieFerer visibly, they are quite different. 83 should have white tank and blue seat where the 82.5 has silver tank and black seat. But VIN are different. 82.5 vin starts with CN19xxx and 83 are CO1xxx. There are a bunch of little differences too but those are the basics. Nice! Don’t sell off too many RMs, (although I like the ‘78s more than the ‘79/‘80 RMs). Actually, why no late ‘70s bikes? Is it because they are air cooled and have horrible stock suspension? Or is it because only Yamaha and Suzuki were really making competitive bikes? By ‘78 Honda and Kawasaki had finally gotten their act together. I can t remember the first year of the uni-shock KX, I think it was ‘78. I used to own and ride a 1978 CR250, (the Elsinore with Fox air shocks!). It was a classic at the time and a beautiful all red bike. I also had a 1978 RM125, (also a winner at the track and my favorite bike from that era). Cheers, great collection. Beautiful KTMs, btw. Subbed.

I love the 87 bikes but focus more on 1986 year and older because you can race those in D1 (front disc only 1984-1986,) GP3 (non drum brake 1981-1983), and the older classes. There is not a class for front and rear disc for older/vintage racing classes and that is where the demand is for these bikes.

Yes, I will be touching on that Jeremy McGrath replica CR 250 build in a future video. Bike has not been ridden since completion. All graphics and seat are from Throttle Syndicate.

@@CharlieFerer Nah, Suzukis are the easiest to work on, (at least old ones). But Honda’s are definitely solid, classic and beautiful. My very first bike was a used TM125 and came in a box of parts. I had to rebuild it without a manual or any help. I actually figured it out and rode it for a year until I could afford a RM125. Getting a first bike like that turned out to be a blessing, although that TM was junk by that point. I’m just old enough to remember when CZs, Bull Tacos, Huskis, Can Ams and Montesas ruled the tracks. Especially the CZs.

I have a question for you. I had both of my legs amputated and I need ideas to set up my bike. I bought a 1998 xr70r in 2003 to make a pit bike. I had my lower back fused and I gave up the bike. Losing my legs I’ve decided to start making it. I can’t shift or use my back brake. Is there a way to put a hand brake for my rear brake? And my shifter is another problem to solve. It’s automatic and I bought a heel toe shifter and a 18”hand shifter so any thoughts? I’ve always wanted this bike and I had my first 1968 z50 until I sold it. Then I bought 2 ct70’s one with a clutch and one automatic. I also had xr75, Kawasaki 175, so I know how to ride till now. I only need idea’s please.

Just thinking out loud here man because I am a life long moto guy and have always admired those who ride through adversities. You guys are heroic to me. You listed some bikes you’ve owned or own and it made me wonder if bikes like the klx125, ttr125, or even crf150 are ideal in size for you. I think converting to a handlebar mounted rear brake is certainly feasible, and I wonder if a rekluse clutch would omit the need for any clutch work for you. I totally think you’re on track with the 18” hand shifter and I wonder if you could take it further with a cable driven system with enough leverage mechanisms in place to allow you to operate a type of push-pull lever mounted along side a handlebar mounted rear brake. It would just be awesome if you could shift with somewhat of a hold on the handlebar, while not having to manage a clutch. I rode with a rekluse once and it would idle in gear with the clutch lever out. (Crf450 if I remember right) impossible to stall in the corners. Anyway,…thought I’d share, and definitely wish you the best in your journey to make things work out on your efforts to ride. P.s. I think the Yamaha ttr 125 is available with electric start.

@CharlieFerer

There is a reason, because I have two 1983 CR 489’s that I feel are a way better bike than the 1982. For resale value the 1981 CR 450 is very rare so a great collector bike. The 1983 CR 250 are worth more money than the 1982 so I would want to collect and race the better of the two years. Now, the 1984 is the one to have as the last year of the air cooled. Some reasons why the 1983 is a superior bike over the 1982: The 1983 is redesigned and a better ergo bike for rider. The 1981 was one of the worst Honda builds and least reliable. The 1982 was a little better. Because of this Honda for 1983 redesigned everything and even the motor is now completely reliable and now has a better transmission with 5 speed. The front brake has a lot better stopping power with a dual leading shoe. They also improved the front forks besides the forks being a larger diameter. Shock has new linkage and more adjustable. Also cool for 1983 is the removable sub frame. The rear brake was redesigned for better pull in as well to the brake shoes. The 1983 is one of the most reliable air cooled bikes Honda manufactured. In my eyes you can not compare the 1981 and 1982 model even though they look alike. Remember for vintage racing this class is 1981-1983 and you want to be in the 1983.

What you see is a passion for a sport I have loved since the age of ten. It is a part of me. I am an adrenaline junky with all things two and four wheels wheels that are fast and give me an adrenaline rush. Some normal people living a normal life do not get it because they do not have fuel running in their veins. Motorcross or dirt bike riding is not the smartest sport. I agree, I am just recovering from an accident. But I would rather live and die doing what I love than be a sheep and do nothing. All my friends that have the same passion convinced me to start a KZfaq channel to share it with others that have the same passion. It is okay for you to hate on having a collection thinking it is an ego thing. Definition of a hater - a negative or critical person = Boll Weevil
