I would revisit this idea but attach 3 turbines to the back, add a semi-flexible shark fin style stabilizer to the lower back. One motor mounted on the "dorsal side" of each limb(underside while swimming), with cones to cover the hands and throttles-allow each throttle to control each side independently(Yaw control) with the middle jet always running on medium power to keep speed between maneuvers. Then, get some short sleek flippers, and attach them with a block of foam between the feet and attach the fins together for a mermaid style monofin(or buy a monofin). Tighter fitting sleek rubber wetsuit? Then, wear scuba gear like you had, but make a shark head like cone on the top of your head, with 90 degree prisms to allow you to see forward while looking down! You would go at least 50% faster, look 150% cooler, and have at least 100% more control improvement.

i would do a soft mount for your bottle on the front just to make it easier to keep it from wobbling while you fly. you could also do a cage mount of these around an actual set of tanks or a rebreather. pretty sure this isn't a new concept there are tons of military and commercial applications but it is nice to see we can make this kind of thing to play with if we want to.

Just an FYI in case no one has said it already (mechanical engineer here), Jam nuts are for making adjustments and shouldn't be used to secure a fastener, since they tend to back out. You want a lock nut (a nut with a nyloc insert), the nyloc prevents the nut from backing loose under vibration.

Prettty inspirational for me. I have a pair of Lefeet S1 seascooters that I strap on my legs for "augmented swimming" at my local beach, La Jolla Shores. I'll use an Ameo Powerbreather or sometimes my Nemo dive unit. Silicon fins on my hands, Chuchills on my feet. Good for an hour session. Always love the leopard sharks, guitarfish, and sting rays. Never seen anyone else with such gear in the water. That underwaer speed looks amazing, like a Seabob.

As an avid Scuba and free diver that speed is amazing. I know that when diving into a strong current. Say 3kts. It very very hard to keep your mask on or even use your regulator. The pressuere of the current wants to rip off your mask if you don’t hold it on. And pushes the purge valve so hard that the regulator free flows. I can’t imagine 12.5mph, (about 11kts with any kind of normal Scuba gear and mask. In the video you didn’t even appear to be doubling your friends speed let alone more that tripling it. Just saying. It you were truly going that fast, that is really amazing. 5kts is very fast.

What if you mount these on your chest instead of your back? It might be more efficient, as you are not blocking it with your head and your butt. As it is, you are raising your head to look ahead, so it might be more difficult for you to stay at the same depth. Also, it would be easier to get submerged and get going. If you put this on your chest, then you can easily have an air tank on your back :].

Not sure what safety features if any you had, but you should definitely consider adding a few redundancies incase catastrophic failure had occurred. Need a safety cutoff master switch. And a way to bail out of the suit if necessary. There are some great latches that have a quick break away function that you could use on the straps to the rig. This is a great project and it would be super interesting to see this taken further with some changes in aerodynamics, power, and run time.

I still remember on our first date, we got a flat tire at night. So after i changed the tire, while heading to the movie theater, she pulled out a wetwipe from her purse, grabbed my hand and individually cleaned the car sut and grease off each of my fingers. I think i would have thought she was a germ freak if i didn't already know her for so long prior. It might aound silly, but this was the moment i realized she loved me, and the moment i just fell even more in love with her. Man, I miss her so much...
