You know those seats go up one more time from there, I took my seats out in my 2010 crv, more room to work with, you can pop that plastic piece off the inside hatch , that way you can open the hatch from the inside just in case , just tape it back loosely in place so you don’t lose it. You do good work 😊, I like your setup. I’m camping with my dog so I need all the space I can get.

@@kimdagnillo8246would love to see your set up with a dog. I'd like to take my dog, but she's 55 pounds, and there's not a lot of room. Also, if you fold the seat all the way down, it takes up a lot of the length of the bed.

@@debraoneil563 I took out all seats and built a table in place of the passenger seat. I put down plywood covered in thin carpet to level entire back. I have a rooftop box, you definitely need it for storage with a crv. I don’t know how to put pics up here. I use a trifold bed so there’s room for the dog when I travel. It’s snug sleeping with a 70 plus pound dog but it’s not uncomfortable for me.

This is exactly the kind of thing I want to build, thank you so so much for sharing! Also, when I UL backpack I use a quilt... Have never heard of the Zenbivy sheet system... mind blown. THANK YOU!!!! I love your setup so much!

This is so nice, thank you for posting. I have a slightly newer CRV, and was trying to figure out how to make it more versatile for traveling. Did not want to plunk down $thousands for a larger vehicle at this point, and the little travel trailers I can pull are also pretty pricey. I am handy with a saw so I think I can make a bed base with your instructions. The rest appears to be reasonable with my budget. Now I have a project.....

Thanks! I also considered a travel trailer before coming up with this setup. It's small inside but it works great for what I need. I have a separate video on how to build the bed platform. I don't have any building skills, so I needed to do something very simple. Good luck with your project!

Thanks! I didn’t want the wood to scratch the interior so I found the felt with adhesive at the hardware store. It didn’t stick as well to the platform as it did the support boards so I need to add some duct tape. 🙂

I have a 2003 four door chevy tracker that I use for camping. The REI packing cube gear bags is just what Im looking for. I dont want to remove my seats either. Its a hassle.

Thanks. I have been contemplating a simple way to use my older C-RV for a camper, since i have gear from tent camping and need the car for normal errands. As a retired person, i sold my little, city house, thinking i would live cheaper in an apartment, silly me. I wanted to get back to camping, since being a home owner consumed my weekends with home maintenance, mowing, gardening or snow blowing. And so, intrigued by the elders out there sightseeing and camping in their cars, i thought that would be a good way to start indulging my own love of camping again. Your C-RV outfitting vid was very helpful!

I use the same Kellty then found the Kelty with sidewalls and a zipper door which is nice for a little privacy when changing. I have my kitchen at the back and I built a table which sits on the edge of the back hatch and I have a small folding table too.

Mine is an '05 w 208,000. The seats fold flat. I have yet to try sleeping on them but just the passenger seat will do. I have a plug in in back to inflate things.

2007 might have been the first year the spare tire wasn't on the back. I wish my seats folded flat so I could sit up on my bed. But my setup works for me. : )

Great setup! This makes me miss my CRV but gives me a good idea of what it would look like to build a similar bed platform for my Subaru Ascent whose second-row seats also don't fold completely flat. 😊

I love your set up and very impressed that you built your bed system on your own. I drive a 2017 Toyota RAV and I go weekend camping with my Shih Tzu dog here in Ontario. I have asked a carpenter friend to build my bed frame. How long do you go when you go cold camping and do you stay in camp sites or go so stealth camping? Thanks!

Thanks! When I'm camping in my car in cold weather, I stay at campgrounds, usually at the Oregon Coast. I have a video that shows how I built my bed platform. My I ask how long your bed is, I am trying to figure out if a CRV would work for my car camping needs. But I can't get exact dimentions on the length of any car with the seats folded down. Its only ever reported in cubic feet which is kinda useless for what I am trying to figure out.

I have a 2014 Honda CRV. I've tried this and it's not long enough for me to stretch out. I'm 5'4". I've seen this done on several videos so I tried it, but not long enough. I don't know how people fit.

My bed platform is 6 ft. long and I'm 5'1" so there's plenty of room for me to stretch out on it. In order to make room for the platform, I move the front passenger seat forward. It is a bit tight to get in and out of the bed due to how high the platform has to sit, but it works.

@@iheartpacificnorthwest Oh I move the front passenger seat all the way forward. Your platform must be going over top of the front seat in order to get 6 ft of length. What kind of vehicle do you have? There's no way you can get 6 ft of length that way in a Honda CRV. No way.

@@Judy-fi7ce You can see in my video where the platform goes. It does not go over the front seat, it is 6 ft long, and it does fit. My CR-V is a 2007 so maybe there's a size difference?

@@LisaDHolmes - I don't know if there's a size difference. I wouldn't think they'd make a newer model smaller. All I can say is, there's no way I can get 6 ft of length. Not even enough for me at 5'4". I've tried. I guess it will remain a mystery.

There gaps on the left and ride sides of some of the window covers. Is that because they don't actually provide full coverage and 100% privacy? Thanks!

The gaps are tiny and aren’t an issue for me. I can’t see in from the outside, and even with small gaps, hardly any light gets in. In fact, I have to leave the moon roof cover open so I can tell when it’s light out in the morning and don’t oversleep.

How do you get in and out of bed? Through the side door, or through the rear hatch?

The side door. I leave one back seat up so I can sit in it and get in and out of the bed using the back seat. I’m working on a short video to show this.

What are the measurements of the legs?

The shorter legs are 12.5” long and the taller legs for support at the top of the platform are 21” long.
