Rose What a joyful moment you share. I Love it. In Nigeria, cowhide can be dried and stored for future use. To prepare it, you wash the skin to remove sand and dirt's. Dry it. Burn off the hair with open fire. Wash again and dry. You may decide to burn off hair before washing. Wash thoroughly when the hairs are gone. Scrap both side to get rid of chars and dirt's To use a dry hide, it will be soaked in water for hours. When soaked one can use it to make soup

I never knew you could cook and eat cow hide ... never too old to learn 😊 In my culture, we would treat it with salt for weeks and use it as a floor mat. In instances where a cow is slaughtered for the funeral of an elder, we use the cow hide to cover the coffin before burial.

😮 was wondering where this cowhide adventure was going. When Rose and Wu Jianyun started slicing green onions, I was surprised. 😮 So curious, I paused the video to look it up. Cowhide is used in some cuisines, as it provides collagen for skin and bone health, plus dietary fiber and other nutrients. Interesting...learned something new today! 😊

@pamelahart6145 7 ай бұрын
@@MaryHartman-ei9pvthe taste is hard to describe depending on the seasoning used in the cooking..in Jamaica, as a child, our cook would make a stew with broad beans n ‘spinners’ which r bits of flour rolled btwn the palms giving the flour an elongated shape…the skin is cleaned, hair singed off n when cooked has a soft n semi gummy texture….same way cow foot was prepared…think in terms of the skin that is left around the edge of pork chops…although u find those cut in that way in “ethnic” supermarkets

Its interesting watching these old rural practices and thats what people need to remember. Back in the day, you would use up everything of an animal. Whether their son would spend all that time making glue..... Living in a city in Europe, the hide would have been cleaned, sold and used as a rug.😅

In Trinidad the cow hide is sold, minus the top part. So it's just the meaty part under the skin, and when we purchase it, we call it cow skin. Dishes we prepare with it are, pickled cow skin (or cow skin souse).. stewed cow skin, cow skin soup, it can also be curried. I luv it
