Every man has ties in his wardrobe. But recently, few people wear this accessory, except perhaps if you are in a leadership position. There was a time when a tie was almost the main gift for a men's holiday. So they have accumulated and now lie idle; you can’t even force them to wear them on special special occasions.
Men's ties are usually made from expensive, beautiful fabric. So why not use them again, but in a different guise.
It looks like a strip of fabric, but if you tear it apart you get a decent piece of fabric from which you can sew something. First you need to evaluate the appearance; if the tie is greasy, it is better to wash it. This should not be done while the tie is being worn because the inner insert will become deformed and shrink. In this case, you need to dry clean it.
It is easy to rip the tie, since it is half sewn by hand, I didn’t know this until I tried it.
The fabric also has a reverse side that can also be used in sewing, it’s just a different shade.
My husband's ties will be used as a pillow for his sofa. I will sew it in patchwork style. The patterns that can be made are varied.
Master Class:
1) I cut strips 7 cm wide, 1 cm of which will go to the seams. In patchwork, the main thing is to cut the workpieces evenly. It is good to use a special roller knife, a rubber mat and a transparent ruler for this.
The idea is to connect the strips with a herringbone pattern.
2) First I sewed 3 stripes. I trimmed the two sides so that the angle was right.
3) Next to the side where the 3 stripes are, stitch a fourth strip.
4) Then the next one at 90 degrees. This continued until the desired size was achieved.
5) For convenience, I cut out a rectangle from paper the size of the pillow and kept my sewing on it all the time.
Important! Each seam was overcast for strength during use.
6) I placed fabric under the finished canvas so that there were no distortions.
7) I cut the bias tape and stitched it along the edge, making notches in the corners.
8) Next I sewed the pillow as usual.
Now I will sew a second pillow from the remains of ties, but with a different pattern. I'll definitely show you later.
