It's hard to think in inches from overseas. In future videos, could you also say the measurements in centimeters? I stopped the video to ask Google, but it kind of breaks the flow of the vid. Thanks! 😊
@Designchickee
@Designchickee 3 жыл бұрын
I’ll try to remember to add them in. I’m Canadian and we learn the metric system in school but then design school ruined me. Industry standards here are imperial. And I’ve been in the industry longer than I was in grade school now. LOL. Thanks fir watching!

Hello, There are 2.54 centimeters per inch. Or, 25.4 millimeters per inch. So, whatever the number in inches (say 10), just multiply by 2.54.

The entry point from outside is immediately into my living room and the thought of street shoes coming into this space makes me cringe. So at the moment no area rugs. I do have lovely wood floors and it is so much easier to keep clean from shoes and dog hairs.

Just found your channel...so much great content! I'm not sure if you've covered this, but it could be a great topic as I see this often. Our front door opens directly into the living room, but off to the side. What's the best way to make a visual separation without building a full wall?

Nope, I don’t like area rugs. I love my wood floors and want to see them. I feel like a rug sucks out the reflected light from the floor and makes the room seem smaller. Maybe if I had a bigger space I’d feel differently. I agree with everything else you said though.

I am a super fan of wood floors.....but without rugs, how do you keep your floors from getting scratched up? The felt pads can come off, and I get so annoyed by deep scratches. Just curious.
@gnomealone350
@gnomealone350 3 жыл бұрын
@@dawnmaslonka705 well, I haven’t had that much problem with the felt pads coming off. But the thing is, no matter what floor you have, it will get used. Rugs over wood floors will get dirty and worn in time. It’s kinda like, pick your poison, imho.
@dawnmaslonka705
@dawnmaslonka705 3 жыл бұрын
@@gnomealone350 true! I have family (that I really love!) visit, and I swear, they just have no concerns at all. And they will get on a chair and scrape it across the floor as if that chair is a car seat. They push down into the floor and dig in. I just die. So I picked the rug option. But I’ve often wondered why I have all these beautiful floors, only to cover them up. 🤣. But I do like rugs, so like you said, you pick your poison. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!!

First, want to say again how much I enjoy your videos! So informative! Second, quick question, we have been living in the south west of Costa Rica for 5 years now, it's where we live all year. Yes, its gorgeous but it does come with its challenges when you want your house to feel like a home. Floors have to be tiles and you can't use carpets, they would just keep the humidity and create mold, even if you were to use outdoor rugs. Also they just create an all too friendly environment for bugs. What would you suggest for bringing together the furniture in the living room area?
@WhiteWhite60
@WhiteWhite60 3 жыл бұрын
I live in S. Florida, so it's insect control/management... tile floors, no rugs or carpeting for me. Plus, I have six cats and a dog who come and go through a doggy door, so it's also cat and dog hair control/management. For my den and kitchen, after watching this video, I'll paint a rug on the tile. There is {somewhere online) a company that sells pre-cut masking tape for painting patterns on walls, which I'll use for the floors.

We are in the process of renovating, and i am confused about pot lights. I am planning to have chandelier, lamp and sconces. Can i get away with not doing pot lights or should i donit as a backup? would love your thoughts on it. thank you, love your precise and direct remarks.
@Designchickee
@Designchickee 3 жыл бұрын
I really can't say specifically if you should have pot lights as I don't know how big your space and a whole other slew of variables but you can certainly have a combination of lighting including both chandeliers and pot lights. I'd put pot lights on a dimmer so you can manage the amount of light in the room.
