It's fun to watch a hawk and trowel man , being one my self for 45 years. Through the years on the job i would do small repairs on the side for the elderly . After i was done i would give them a written invoice. I made it look like it was going to cost a small fortune . But when they saw what i put down for the final cost they would have a look on their face that to me was priceless. Total..... 1 glass of lemon aid. Glad to see someone else doing nobel gestures for others in this day and age. I retired 3 years ago but the reactions will remain in my memory till the day i die. Good men have heart... Way to go man.

YEAHHH what a gent you are, total respect, I subbed straight away when I saw the invoice mate. Ten ish years ago I was doing general fixing in folks homes here in Canada, I did not ever get to be able to do freebies, but I gave great discounts compared to other guys in my area, I loved it, I am a brit, so maybe I should come home and do similar lol. In UK I enjoyed doing flat roofing, that was a good crack, but I expect the safety regs have gone mad now.😁

First job I ever had (1986) was working as a labourer for a plasterer, 12 hour days for £10 a day! I ended up joining the RAF, which is another story, but still remember it fondly. My boss then was a top bloke like you clearly are. Anyway thought I'd donote my daily rate then (adjusted for inflation and rounded up) so you can keep on doing little things like this for people, although to some I guess it's a big thing. Good work. Top man, there aren’t enough skilled conscientious men like you around, we have just bought a bungalow as part of our retirement plan,and we struggled to find trades to even quote for work,eventually we found a good plasterer,electrician,keep up the good work.

I can just imagine how she was scrimping and cutting back in order to save up for the job. She probably used less heating and hot water, less electricity, smaller meals, couldn’t buy any nice new things etc. Probably stressing that if she gets ripped off she’s lost all her money and hasn’t got the job done. In the space of one morning, you’ve lifted a huge weight off of her shoulders. I suspect the emotion she felt most of all was relief. Relief that it’s finally over and she can relax again. You sir, are an absolute diamond.

I was a time served, city and guilds fully qualified painter and decorator for 35 years, following fellows like you, made my job so much quicker and easier, yes I could hide a mulitude of sins and luckly I helped a plasterer now and again, (im not a plasterer) but I was able to patch bits up if needed, some people just do not have pride in their work, at the end of a job I would stand back and carefully inspect everything, and if I would be happy to live in that room, it was upto top notch standard. Pride in your works means everything. Your a champion ;)

Well done mate. I used to be a carpet fitter (20 years agao now). I used to love working for the older generation and I'd often do lots of extras for free. I once spotted some military photos in the old chaps house and decided to clear my van out of all my saved up bits of proper thick underlay. He brought me a cuppa and then started panicking because he hadn't ordered it. I said it was free for an old soldier and he wept. I was struggling to talk.....bless him (Vic). I stayed and chatted for hours with him. Turns out he a was a proper WW2 hero. Saved a lot of men fighting a rear guard action with a Bren after an assault crossing the river Seine. He got captured and spent time in Belsen. I did a job the following day and noticed a plaque on this old fellas wall: 617 Squadron.......he got free underlay, new door bars, no furniture charge and free door trims......I got stories !! What a generation.
