Man I want to thank you I searched everywhere to find what was going on with my jeep when I came upon your video and the switch was the issue but I went a little cheaper if you have a specialty tool set for small electronics you can clean the terminals and it fixes it

Yes on the GPS video. Starting to setup my XK for overland camping and need all the tips I can get.

The box with the cable goes to the shifter it's what doesn't let you shift without the key in and on but doesn't let the key out with it in gear

All Depends on your key. I have the Fobik. I pulled my WIN/Key?Ignition module without pulling the dash and swapped them out ( To put in a factory one with a auto start feature). That saves the whole dash pulling, the module will pull out the bottom like yours minus the dash nonsense. :) But I will give you a story since you shared yours. I had two commanders. My first had the autostart and the current does not. I wanted to add remote start. So I did a Non OEM Fortin brand which works great ( minus igniton circuit codes if you scan the system, but not lights of anything comes on...3 lock presses to start). But, I saw a deal on a factory WIN with the autostart for 66.00 for the module and (2) keys. Cool, I buy it. I swap out the WIN modules and programmed the new one to the car, and it starts , keys unlock and lock, etc. I press the autostart buttons and nothing. I researched and say, Oh I need the antenna for the WIN module, I buy it and add it, nothing. More research, Oh, I need the hood pin of the car will disable to autostart. I add it....Nothing. More research, and my scan tool shows. "Auto Start Disabled" in the ECU. And nope, there is not way for a Non Factory scan tool to Reflash that to "enable" that I am aware of in the ECU, so No Bueno. I put in the old WIN and old Autostart and accept that I will have to press a button one more time for the future. With that said, anyone reading my babble. : I have a FOBIK style WIN and now ( four keys) that come with it. And the PIN# for the WIN as well if you need. Send me a message. (But there are no physical keys that come with it) Naturally My car doors aint gonna be the same as anyone elses, so not point it the physical keys, which were cut already to mine. Just a fyi). Best Wishes.. (ps) there are (starter blankets etc) for the cold weather, which you can wrap the starter and the wires ( yellow wire). getting that onto a starter which is already installed....not fun. but just saying....

Same thing happened to me last year! After they did the ignition switch recall. The dealership was saying that couldn't be the problem. But I had my bf with me and he wasn't going to except that answer. Long story short they had to keep replacing it until it was fixed 😂. They finally got tired of seeing us

I'm glad you got it fixed alright, I confess the video title was a bit disappointing since I have one 07 Commander and I absolutely love thing, so for me it kind of sucks to hear about a fellow XK owner having trouble with theirs. I'm glad it wasn't anything serious I actually had similar problem a few months ago, during the winter which had some ridiculously cold days here in CT, but mine was actually the battery. I have a XJ which I was using it a lot for some reason, so the XK was sitting at the parking lot for a while, but as soon as I plugged the jumper it started right away, drove around for a bit and never had any problems since I also got the recall notification, but haven't got around taking it to the dealer yet Anyway, good job on the repair and thanks for the video instructions 👍

You'll know if you have the recall because the "improved" switch is a locking one that breaks keys. I bought a 2006 Commander new and still have it - 300k miles, it's my Ship of Theseus - Jeep of Theseus... I've had every 5.7 Commander gremlin on every Commander forum you can have...

Had a feelin it wasn't dead. Nice pic to draw us in... When u had to take the 75 dash screws out, have the same oznium LEDs as u & thought u forgot about those wires. Rock Auto shows the Dorman part as the economy option... all others are listed along with the Mopar part. I bought "Standard" ignition switch as a backup just in case.

Man, tank's not dead just on time out! I had the switch issue on my ION and it fkn sucked! I learned to change it out quickly and would do it in less than five minutes but the problem was that it wouldn't always program correctly and had to be done again! GM did do a recall and when I took the car in techs took two weeks to fix it then it happened again on the second day out! I took it back and after three days GM claimed it was the starter, which I had replaced four months back. I offered to replace it myself "again" in their shop to teach them but they declined and took another week to fix it knowing it was the switch. I had to replace it the following year, did it myself and always kept a spare since O'Reilly's has lifetime warranty on it. I'm glad the tank's ok dude, don't do the fake news headline though 😂

Same issue with me but my issue was just a relay module.

I had the same issue with the gauges dying randomly, but my issue turned out to be a corroded ground wire!

Should have went OEM part! That's one of the few parts you want to go OEM

07 Commander, had her two years and have not had this issue. I don’t believe the previous owner didn’t either, weird

Just had this happen to me on the weekend. My 09 commander wouldn't start or crank, all electrical stuff worked. Tried jumping it, checked the fuses and starter finally towed it to a shop and they jumpstarted it. Said the battery voltage was low.

Yellow wire my dude, if it continues. Ive tacked with the yellow starter wire on my 06 4.7 for a few times... sometimes it just needs a cleaning.
