I love ARPGS but they are far from perfect. They could definitely learn a thing or two from "simpler" games if the fanbase wasn't so vitriolic about changing the formula. -It gets tiring KNOWING that most gameplay mechanics are a means to getting a reward than a reward in itself. You "grind" to get the drops you want (we call it that because we know its boring). The simpler games think of things differently. They see gameplay itself as the reward, the "rewards" at the end of competing rarely have any real value to you. I'm not saying PoE should become Fortnite, but that if they can reward us with things like "funner gameplay" rather than items. I feel like Classic WoW did this well. You were rewarded with more complex and fun abilities over time that made grinding that much more rewarding and, more importantly, it rewarded you with funner gameplay. How does gameplay really change in an ARPG though? Faster cooldowns or more resource? You're not doing it to improve the gameplay in most cases, most are doing it to wipe screens faster to achieve your reward (the items) faster.
