Hi there!
I'm Emily and I had a late diagnosis of Inattentive ADD (a type of ADHD) just two months after my 30th birthday. Finding out I was neurodivergent was scary and exciting, but now I'm ready to start treatment!
I haven’t posted in a while, so this is a summary of how my life has been affected by Concerta over the past two months. I talk about my side effects, benefits and improvements. In this vlog, I talk about how ADHD medication has helped me in my new job in the charity sector, as well as how my clinical depression is lifting (after ten whole years!).
Concerta XL is a prolonged/slow/long release stimulant medication (its scientific name is methylphenidate!) used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This medication is sometimes called Ritalin, Daytrana or Focalin - particularly in the US. Other ADHD medications that you might be familiar with are Vyvanse, Dexadrine and Adderall, which are amphetamines, rather than methylphenidates, however, they are all stimulants. This video highlights some of the drug’s effects on my mind, mood and body.
I will be continuing a vlog showing my experience with ConcertaXL as I test out my current dose and through the titration period. (Started on 18mg, now taking 36mg).
Whether you're considering starting Concerta XL, have already begun treatment, are curious about ADHD and its links to depression, or are simply looking for some reassurance that you're not alone, this video is for you.
Be sure to say hi in the comments - I'd love to make some new friends in the neurodivergence community, and don't forget to like, share and subscribe for more videos on mental health, ADHD, and related topics!
PLEASE NOTE: I am not a medical professional, this video is for entertainment and anecdotal information only. Always consult your healthcare provider if you are considering taking any medication to make sure it is safe and right for you.

So good to hear your life has got a lot better. Mine too. I’ve gone up to 36mg Concerta now. Had got so many benefits from 18mg, and 36 is the next level

I just found your channel. But I’m glad to hear your life has gotten better as well as your job with Concerta. I also take Concerta myself for adhd (36 MG) for me I have to get a good enough amount of sleep for it to be affective. But as long as I get enough sleep… I think it’s great.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am 33 and have struggled my whole life with symptoms of ADHD. I was formally diagnosed around six months ago and started Concerta XL yesterday . Currently on 18 mg than moving up to 36 next week. Yesterday I felt absolutely amazing. It was like I was able to switch off all of those different voices in my head and focus on just one. I do however have a headache today. Hopefully it’s only a short term side-effect because I can definitely see how Concerta has the ability to change my life. Thanks again for the uploads 😊

Thank you for sharing. I have struggled with ADHD for decades and anxiety and depression. I have taken medication before but didn’t like the way it made me feel. I have heard of concerta but reluctant to take it due to the side effects. Headaches,nausea, uncontrolled muscle movements (such as twitching, shaking), sudden outbursts of words/sounds that are hard to control, vision changes (such as blurred vision).

I think one of the good things about Concerta is that you can take it some days and not others. Personally, I feel really grim when I don't take it (see my Week 7 vlog), but my job isn't "creative" in the traditional sense, so I don't feel that pressure to be able to create. I definitely don't feel like my creativity is dimmed when on the drug, if anything, I am able to follow though on creative ideas to completion. I guess you would just need to work out what works best of you and your brain. Thank you so much for your kind words :) they mean a lot! Look after yourself, Em x

Hey 👋 thanks for your content❤❤ I took my first concerta pill heater and all I’ve done since yesterday is work and search for other ADHDers on KZfaq talking about their experience with concerta medication. I already watched nearly all your videos 😂 And while watching some I realized you repeated barely paraphrased thoughts I have. Especially that bit about the fact that ADHD might be the primary cause of your depression. I feel like I might just another case. Pardon my English. It's not my native language. Also, what I'm curious about is tolerance to Concerta. Of course, I will discuss it at the next appointment with my psychiatrist but I'm curious about what you’ve been told by your doctor as well as other folk with ADHD. For instance, my doctor confirmed that it's a lifelong medication at the same time the instructions say something like don't take it constantly which is frustrating kind of 🤷‍♀️ People with ADHD please do comment pls if you’re interested in this topic. I don't have friends with ADHD but would like to discuss it with someone who can relate to ❤

Heya Julia :) First of all - your English is amazing, don't for a moment apologise! Thank you so much for your support of my channel. It honestly gives me the warm fuzzies to know that other people find my content useful and that it helps people feel less alone in their experiences. It's always an amazing moment when you come across someone on the internet who has had the same feelings/experiences/thoughts as you, so 'welcome to my brain', it probably looks pretty similar to yours! I really hope your Concerta journey is going well - keep me updated on how you find the journey, and be sure to comment if you have any questions about my experience. Thank you again for watching my videos and taking the time to comment; it really means a lot. Have a great week! Em x

Hey! I had my dose increased to 54mg on Monday, I was told it's the max dose by my doc (in case you didn't know - think it goes higher in USA). I felt 36mg was wearing off after a month or so, so got an increase. I realised a few weeks ago that tea was interacting with my meds n making me nauseous - I drink like 4 cups per day average. Since swapping to decaff my nausea has gone n surprisingly no nausea since I increased dose too. I'm pretty surprised by my lack of side effects now esp with the recent dose increase. Do you still get any?
@RRJStudioo
@RRJStudioo Жыл бұрын
max is either 108 or 90 I believe i think 90 sounds more right I was offered to go higher than 72 but said no incase in future I wanted a higher dose because you do get used to your doseage eventually (and being already on the max leaves no room to go higher - but I don't think i would personally ever go higher than 72mg), I'm on 54 + 18 but it may also be that 54mg is the max for your body weight? I know higher doses are naturally given to bigger sized people. I was also given 10mg non xl top up tablets for the end of the day If I wanted them to potentially combat a drop off in energy/tiredness on long days but I also rarely use those it seems overkill for a vast majority of days but still nice to have the option. I also get 0 side effects which is nice, the only thing I would say I notice is a much warmer than average head tempereature half way through the medication length.

Hi, I've been taking adhd meds for about 4 years, I'm going to try concerta first time soon. It would be cool to reflect on it if you'd like too
@1youngbreeze
@1youngbreeze Жыл бұрын
Also, I tried 54 mg a few times… But it turned out to be too much in regards to side effects. Ultimately it’s a decision to be made between you and your doctor… but yeah… I tried 54 mg and… While it was pretty effective, regarding me being able to pay attention… It contributed to too severe of side effects. Personally I wish there was something in between 36 and 54 MG… While the 36 I’m on now is decent.. it’s sometimes feels ineffective. If they had like a 42 - 45 MG.. I personally think that would be perfect

Keep yourself at a lower dose as long as you can… till you start feeling it not working. These meds can plateau so take care, my dear.

If he’s on a generic, sometimes they can just not work. The fda doesn’t do their job very well. Don’t write off the medication til you try the brand name.

frightening to be uncritically promoting DSM mindsets and prescription drugs
@HouteNyloc

Actually, she's giving the community a free platform to interact with each other and share different experiences, which can potentially help individuals make decisions about their own paths they wish to take in managing their ADHD or other. If you're frightened that you're seeing 'uncritical promotion', maybe that's just projection on your side, which is something you need to come to terms with and find a solution to.

i've worked in this sector for many years and its doing way more harm than it can ever do good - uncritical promotion is part of the ongoing and growing problem - i'd suggest you educate yourself on the issues and become part of the solution. i'd happily share resources on here but youtube censorship is terrible. @@HouteNyloc

Hi there Futures2247, Thank you for you comment. I understand your concerns around my 'promotion' of Concerta and ADHD diagnosis, but I would like to reassure you that I do not feel that I am uncritical. Part of the reason this channel exists is to promote honest and open discussion around this issues and I welcome any feedback you might have or critiques of the opinion I share. Can you be more specific about our concerns? Within my videos, I share the effects my diagnosis and medication has had on my life, both good and bad. For me, a lot of good has come out of this 'journey', however, I am aware that for others this may not be the case. At the beginning of each of my videos and in all bios and video descriptions I remind viewers that I am not a medical professional and so all of my opinions and experiences are anecdotal and personal to me, urging them to speak to a doctor about the issues themselves if they need more information. I hope this reassures you of my position :) Thanks again for your comment! Em x

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. i'd love to be more specific but this would involve sharing a lot of details and links that you tube doesn't allow anymore. I'd be happy to email you with them?. Even the term diagnosis is dubious outside of physical medicine, where the medical model has been revolutionary, because in the reductionist land of 'mental health' there is no aetiology to discover and zero objective tests even if there were. The point of a diagnosis is to determine a proximal cause (aetiology) in order to shape treatment options. I would guess from your presentation that you are unaware of the deep, long standing and highly contested nature of DSM constructs? not to mention the long term dangers of the drugs? as a starter for ten you might find reading the unrecognised facts section over at the council for evidenced based psychiatry then read the articles, books and you tube presentations by the founders. @@adhdemily
