I really like using music cassette cases for my Gameboy games. It's easy to print an insert that gives you a front and side cover and they stack & store really well. Plus you can put them into old-school multi cassette holders for display. The only issue is adding a foam insert in each so that the cartridge doesn't slide around.

the sad thing about the Saturn Analogue and the Dreamcast controller is that they are the ONLY first party controller with a "no drift" analogue stick due to them being based on Hall Effect Sensors. No wear and tear here - everything else I know works with 150 year old tech -> the good old Potentiometer that WILL fail and die when used.

Sansui made a controller for the NES that is almost identical to the Famicom's controller. It also features a slider switch for the A and B button that allow you to set how fast you want auto fire. It also has a headphone jack at the bottom of the controller for some weird mono output that changes ears depending on which direction your pressing. Overall it is my favorite controller for the NES.

Great video, I grew up with gaming with my first game pad was an Atari 2600. We have really come a long way since then, one only complaint about these series is I want to get these consoles again but what sucks about getting older is having the money to buy them but no time to play them lol. Thanks for these series I always love having these videos playing why I'm at work or when I have my kids around.

i would say man as someone who sounds like we have similar history, is don't consider it a loss if you cannot get the things you remember back. this is how most memories work anyway and if you really needed it you would already have it. so much about gaming as an adult is about time and if you are anything like me, you don't have enough time to play what you can afford to

For most games the 6 button pad was essentially a 4 or 5 button pad, with one or two of the functions required by the 3 button scheme becoming obsolete in the transition. Several games simply used XYZ as weapon hotkeys. But not Earthworm Jim which gave you bupkis.

I seriously bought the SEGA joystick JUST for the included Rapid Fire adapter. I would then connect a regular joypad to it. Oddly, I mostly used the rapid fire because I loved playing Monopoly and holding the rapid fire sped up the computer's turns. Also, it was MORE comfortable to play with it in your hands like the Atari joystick and actually move the stick from the bottom instead of the top grip.

I am an avid everdrive collector. Don't get me wrong, I have boxed copies of a majority of the pokemon games and that's incredible, I love playing the original carts, but an everdrive is insanely useful and convenient, especially for someone that doesn't have 10s of thousands of dollars to finish every system collection that they want. Not to mention fan translations, hacks and homebrews, built in cheat engines, it's incredible.

Better off buying new contact pads for old controllers. Cheaper and just as effective even if you need to replace them more often than original pads. What's great about 2D gen console controllers is there really aren't any "mechanical" points of failure to be had like you have with new gens with triggers and sticks etc. They really can last forever with occasional pad changes to keep them fresh.

Very good insight. I myself always prefer the original NES controllers overall as well. So many years of using that basic rectangle block controller that nothing feels the same. Same goes for the PlayStation controller. My brain just feels at ease when I’m using a PS controller vs Switch/Xbox. Don’t get me wrong I do love the Xbox controller especially their trigger layout but nothing has a feel like the PS controller and same goes from that Original NES pad

Just fyi, if a controller/product is officially licensed but not made by the owner, then it's a second party controller, you can always tell the difference between 2nd and 3rd party because 2nd party controllers have the owners name on the controller like the first party controllers, like the retro bit sega controllers which are 2nd party, if doesn't have the logo/owner name on it, then it's 3rd party

@mylifeingaming
@mylifeingaming 2 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] Several people misunderstood what I was saying here. The Zapper works with the NES Toploader, but NOT the AV Famicom. Famicom expects gun inputs from the extension port, even though the AV Famicom does have NES style controller ports. US controllers work on it, but not the Zapper. But on US systems, both work of course.

Careful with those retrobit products. They look and feel very similar to their original controllers but are built with some cheap internal parts. I bought two of the retrobit Saturn controllers last year and the d-pads broke within a few hours of gameplay on both controllers. the actuator cross in the d-pad was made with a very fragile plastic. It seems like the best modern 3rd party controllers are made by 8bitdo, they have a great Saturn/genesis 6 button style controller alternative.

Yup, I bought a Saturn one from Amazon and I live in South Africa so I can't return it. It has massive lag and the c button seems to choose when it wants to work. But not only that, because I could have just gotten a bad unit..To me they feel cheap, I have an 8bitdo Genesis controller and its no contest. You cant even compare the quality, I can't believe they get such good reviews.

The solution to the NES squareness on the controller was to put a piece of electrical tape on each top corner just to make it softer on the finger lol, than just add more lairs to make it rounder to your custom thickness. Didnt really need to buy anything. Same with SMS. I MUST SAY! Since you mentioned ROMDUMPS that are BAD, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE REDUMP SOULBLADE FOR PS1 THE CURRENT DUMP WONT RUN STORY MODE/Edgemaster mode PROPERLY OR SPECIAL WEAPONS PROPERLY AT ALL ON ANY EMULATOR!!!!!!! Both available dumps are broken in this sense ive tried forever to get it to run. If you can find a dump that can actually fully complete the game without glitching and freezing, ive never found it. If you boot it up and try arcade it will seem to work but the weapon mode doesnt.

I have a Retrotink 2x Pro M, it works well enough to run on a VGA CRT. I wonder what you do for "neanderthal games" like the 2600, Intellivision, Colecovision, Astrocade,etc... You need an NTSC tuner that can tune Channels 2, 3, and 4. I have a VHS machine with a broken tape deck. Maybe the tuner can be minaturized and used with a Retrotink.

@@rowanunderwood an RGB modded console might be good playingwise, but in terms of collectability, untouch is more truly historic. I can get SMS, SG2, SNES, SAT, TG16, PS2, ABD JAG running in RGB with no system mods. All you have to do is find a vcr woth an NTSC tuner. Even one with a tape deck is broken. I'm surprised no one makes a miniaturized tuner with RGB SCART for all the neanderthal games. If you took out the tape deck and just had an NTSC tuner, that should miniaturize it

@@mylifeingaming I didn't mean to come across as 'pointing out flaws'. I only meant to help out fellow late-comers to this video who might not realize there was an updated version of the cart. I made that exact mistake myself. Right now, I can glance up at the Super Everdrive x5 sitting on my shelf gathering dust, which was replaced only a week after I got it by the SD2SNES Pro. If I could find a parts-cart, to salvage the right chips from, I'm fairly confidant that I could mod it. And then at least I could give it away to someone who would get some enjoyment out of it. Still, I'm not likely to just happen upon a damaged copy of Yoshi's Island any time soon. And I would never chop up a functional original, just to mod an Everdrive. To me, that's sort of blasphemy. But, to each their own.

25:50 I had that SEGA arcade power stick! I'd gotten it from a good friend! I got it for Phantasy Star 2. If u did a search (press the A button) as you were walking... it would reset the walk so you'd avoid monster fights! (The turbo button was KEY!) I made it through the WHOLE GAME!! get to the final boss!!! Get hit once and killed!!! Not building my levels up through playing the game... was about a year or more just wasted!! Finally beat the game like 20 years later when I dL'd it on XBOX360. Took the time to grind hard and build my characters up! I'd finally see that same friend while he was working at GAMESTOP and I was "Bro!!!... I finally beat Phantasy Star 2!" He just laughed and said "well that took a while!" And I'd told him about the trick he showed me to avoid fights ended up totally backfiring on me! LMADO!

21:41 SMS Control Stick, arcade controller with joystick on the right, don't know how long the cable is but could you reverse it so you are using your left hand to control the joystick? (I would try)

A lot of the early dpads could easily be ambidexterized. Just rotate 180 degrees and flip one or two switches. (Second switch swaps buttons for Tutankham and Side Arms.). I think there is a reason that all second generation consoles (except the vectrex) had intentional ambidexterity and the NES controller didn't makes me think there is a Japanese Jingoistic Joystick Jihad. I can't prove it, but it does explain why there's no right handed joysticks.

I actually love the N64 controller for Gameboy games on Switch. I don’t have an NES pad, so it’s the only controller I own where B is up and to the left of A. I could just use A and X on other controllers but…it’s just not the same, lol.

I've found that Gamerz Tek clone-consoles have so-far always worked with Everdrives. Mainly because they are pure hardware clones; no software emulation at all. You can also usually choose between original outputs or modern outputs. I've seen other clone-consoles that boast HDMI, but they often mangle the color pallet. Like, why is Mario now wearing fuchsia overalls..? Ew. Somehow, Gamerz Tek clones don't have this problem. I'm not sure what they're doing differently, but it works! Oh and, NO ADDED LAG. They play exactly like the originals do. It's also a nice bonus too that they don't cost too much. xD
