In this video I discuss my lighting concept. I use T-5 HO florescent grow lights 6400k from Walmart. Each tube is 54 watts. I'll explain how Im able to grow healthy lush tropical house plants in low light. And explain how I maximize the plant's ability to engage in photosynthesis by providing the proper nurturance and water in the proper amounts.

Great video and excellent lighting advice. I appreciate the ever helpful reminder to wipe the leaves because indoor plants don't get washed off by rain like they would in nature, and mine get insanely dusty! Also the watering tip is perfect for me as I usually underwater.

It's nice to hear someone who agrees with the NPK of 3-1-2. You ask ten different growers and you will get ten different answers. As a grower of aquatic plants we would be out of business pretty quickly if we went down the all singing LED grow light deals. We use outdoor LED or fluorescent tubes, a mix of warm white (4000K) and cool white (6000K). Investing in a decent PAR meter is worthwhile. First time I've watched your video, subscribed.

I can't for the life of me find any product here in EU that is 3-1-2 ratio 😭
@BritPunk
@BritPunk 24 күн бұрын
@@DankLordvsGames I’m guessing you're aware it's the same as 6-2-4 and 9-3-6 etc. you can make your own, ingredients available at all good hydroponic stores, doesn't have to be exact but if you find a product that is totally off the mark I wouldn't bother. Some promote flowering, others fruiting, some promote miracles, it's mostly bollocks mate. Before you know it, you have delved into the world of macro and micro nutrients and turned into a hippy knocking up some strange brew of nettle and comfrey tea in the kitchen just before the wife divorces you for stinking out the whole house. As it turns out, nettle tea is as weak as p1ss and isn't worth bothering with in the first place.

@@BritPunk ❤️ Yeah, aware - hence the 'ratio'. The hydroponics stores here all seem to gravitate towards products for cannabis, despite the fact that it's illegal here. I'm going to have a deeper look tomorrow. The brands I have available to me are: Advanced Nutrients Canna Fearless Gardener Brand Gold label Growth Technology Green house power feeding RAW NPK Industries (I guess this is an option) Shogun Tera Aquatics Biobizz Biocanna Lurpe Mycoterra Have I missed a product from 4hese that matches the 3-1-2 ratio?

Your plants are picture perfect! Two questions…What is the square footage of that room? I only have 250 square feet of interior space in my Airstream. I’m filling it up with plants & these grow lights are intrusive into my living space. I really like the idea of mounting a couple (3) of these on the ceiling. I’m also curious about the energy usage. My power bill is pretty high for such a small space & I can’t afford to double it. I know that may be difficult to answer, but any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Really enjoyed looking at your beautiful jungle 🥰
@junglenook
@junglenook 26 күн бұрын
sq ft is about 390 each tube is 54 watts, LEDs would use a lot less power; you could use a combo of florescent and LEDs. Maybe use the florescent in the center of the room and the LEDs to fill in the darker spots and outer edges of the room

@@junglenook Thank you! I’ve been growing plants for 40 years & I’ve had huge collections, but I’ve never grown strictly indoor plants, so at 65, what’s left? So far, they’re doing well with the Sansi grow lights. They’re just ugly 😢

Hello Jungle Nook. I've watched many of your vids several times and love your setup. I have a question: do you use the 3-1-2 fertilizers for all your indoor plants? I have monsteras, philodendrons etc .. and I'm about to gets some grow lights (as per your video). I'm still unsure about the fertilizers to use.
@junglenook
@junglenook 22 күн бұрын
Yes it is that is the ratio for the primary nutrients NPK and that's in an all-purpose fertilizer
@sharonholmes4444
@sharonholmes4444 26 күн бұрын
Now, i have a question. On your moss pole plants do you add your fertilizer to the poles "or" soil "if" you use liquid fertilizer. I was concerned about the moss breaking down faster if fertilizer was used instead of plain water. I'm new to moss poles. Been busy making them and btw...i love them! Thank you so much for that tutorial. I'm sorry this is a bit off topic. 🌵 Arizona 🎋

Once a month at 1/4 strength. Im not sure about it breaking down faster but now that you mention it, it may, my concern is the nurturance building up or algae (but that might look cool). When the vine is short, I fertilize the soil. As moss breaks down or decomposes its converted into nutrients perfect for vining plants.
@sharonholmes4444

@@junglenook I don't think I want algae. When algae dies it quickly decomposes and may deplete the nitrogen levels and may even cause root rot if it gets into the soil. Now, sprouted New Zealand moss works for me! I sprout it often in pots and add a bit to the top of my substrate on my orchids.

I follow Sydney Plant Guy on KZfaq. He has massive plants on moss poles & he always adds foliage focus in every watering. 5ml to a liter. I can’t argue with his success, so I’m doing the same. I love the look of algae growing on the moss! It’s green like the foliage & blends in beautifully. It’s harmless. Good luck on your moss pole journey. I recently started mine, so no algae yet 😢
@junglenook
@junglenook 22 күн бұрын
Algae does not cause root rot. What causes root rot is pathogens getting into the root system through wounds. Pathogens require water log soil with low oxygen. And I totally agree with you going over to Sydney plant guy check out his channel if you're getting into Moss poles there's a lot of excellent information there. I have a video called root rot you may find interesting. Thanks for all the support I appreciate it

@@junglenook I still don't want algae. I did look it up and I read it can cause root rot amongst others including fungi and bacteria. 🤔 I don't know and not disputing the fact. I just know it collects in the inside of my clear orchid pots and really smells badly. It's actually gross!!! The light causes algae I realize that and we must have light.

Is this your house? where do you sit down? plants look absolutely amazing. some of the healthiest plants i have seen. I have a room dedicated to plants. climate controlled etc. i spend 80% of my spare time in there. i dont get many visitors. so now i am considering just making my entire house climate controlled and artificial lighting where needed. But i could not get rid of my Chairs and Couches. they help me relax with my plants.
