We did celebrate together a couple of times but dont any more. Hold your families close and let them know that you love them. Have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!

My family always made the cornbread dressing. We were from Arkansas. She did use some day old biscuits and or yeast rolls,we didn't keep storebought lightbread except for daddys lunches he had to take to work. He either took fried egg or peanut butter sandwich. An older lady from our church was from up northeast, buffalo New York, and she made white bread dressing with light bread, and would cut up boiled eggs in her dressing. She called it white dressing. Southerners make the cornbread dressing. She told me people from Louisiana make the rice and oyster dressing. I used to love to eat a cup of the dressing after the bread, spices, broth, onion, everything mixed up but before it was baked. Course now they say don't eat raw egg, so I wouldn't be able to eat it that way.

I save bread ends both sides in the freezer all year to make dressing for Thanksgiving. My momma said never eat the ends of bread because you get to be thankful for for making ends meet at Thanksgiving 🦃. That's why we use bread ends to make dressing. 😊

@@janicebanks9958 Hi Janice How are you doing?. You know one thing my Mom made was browned ground beef, onions and then add shredded cabbage cover steam cook, cool. She made her own yeast bread dough. Rolled out and put abundant beef cabbage filling inside. Folded dough up all four sides and baked. Reheated in oven, there were even better, more crusty. Cut in half and open side could put ketchup, now that I'm older the best ketchup is Heinz. I haven't made these but 2 times in my life, I'm old. But dream of them way to often. Even ate them cold they were that good. My Mom was older Mom for me. I came 17 years after my oldest sister. She was the best home style cook and baker. Best cookies choc chip with hickey nuts my Dad collected in woods and cracked. Mom and I picked them out. Butter Nuts too. What a baker she was my Dad had a sweet tooth. Pies of every kind. rhubarb my fav. Sweet yeast rolls with fruit filling, cinnamon raisin rolls, sticky nut rolls. Yeast raised and cake donuts fried. We had a huge garden, ate the best vegetables a person could. She froze and canned too. She made the best sauerkraut stuffed yellow peppers and pickles too. She built wood furniture. Upholstered lounge chairs and what a seamstress too. I had homemade built and upholstered Barbie furniture and sewn clothes. Also ate every wild life father hunted and fished. I appreciate them now more than ever. Hope you and your brother and sister are doing well.

@Kay-ws2kk Wow, your mom was some lady! I lost my mom at the age of 20, and to be honest, she didn't cook a lot! Basic food, but she could make great cakes. I miss her every day. She has been gone 50 years. We are doing really well. My brother seems to be getting used to the nursing home he is in, and my sister and I visit him often. He is looking forward to me bringing him home for Thanksgiving for the day. I will also bring him home for Christmas! He gets excited about the visits home. Thank you so much for asking. You know my dad made home made doll furniture for me and my sister. He was an upholsterer and was really good at it. I lost him 4 months after my mom. He was the spoiler in the family. He really adored his girls and spoiled us everyday! I miss them both even 50 years later. God bless you and your family!

Our family has a traditional generational hand-me-down dressing. We call it dressing instead of stuffing. Our family is from Louisiana and Arkansas. None of us and our Southern family can stand any sage. It is really interesting how certain families have different taste buds and grow up with the seasonings that they are used to. Certain families love sage. I can't wait to try your recipe. However, the sage would have to be kept out. It is so wonderful to hear your stories and memories of your family. I have lost most of my family now on the southern side. I remember the days where we would have Thanksgiving and other holidays. We would sit and talk around the table. There were so many memories made there and it was wonderful listening to the stories.
