this is a passion project of mine, taking the viewer through my thoughts and experiences.
it is both about the background story of my maps and all the useful things i've learned in the span of 8 years.
sadly my accent is very harsh and my pronounciation sounds unpleasing, so i had to resort to ai voice.
leave a comment if i used any footage you'd like credit for

I love when artists, game developers and generaly people who create stuff talk about their work, like what they have done, how they did it, what was their thought process and what they would have done differently in hindsight. I don't think something like this has been done for bhop yet, so seeing this makes me very happy. Amazing video!

theres something about "history of my creations" type videos that make me fall in love with them. this reminded me of the 2kliksphilip game making series. as a creative aswell this video made me feel not alone in my thoughts on creating games/whatever and it was super relatable

Really interesting video. Definitely a breath of fresh air, when it comes to bhop content. Even though it wasn’t perfect, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done.

this might be a one time project because i use my channel as personal archive. a bit sad to see people subscribing and imagining their disappointment over time. but i will definetly make another video essay if i feel inspired by something.

Such a good video, I watched all of it and it's so nice to see an insight to your maps since I love the shutdown maps - I have some very nice memory tied to my shutdown1 record because something path-creating happened in my life right after I got the run so I think I'll always remember the map upon thinking about that life thing and imo that's the most great part about art in general. Very very nice video soda :)

What a fantastic and satisfying video to watch, it's so good to have known your journey. I can't even imagine the number of bugs and problems you had to fix in Hammer over the years. It would be really cool to see a trikz map from you. There aren't many highly detailed maps in trikz. In general, there aren't many maps in trikz, and I find your maps usually very advanced in details, it's even comforting to look at them. Anyway, it would be really nice to have a map of this level in trikz.

@@sodawater5316 These fly parts are really hard to test xD, I'm pretty bad too but I managed to make some maps (none of them good). The community sometimes helps a lot with this testing part.

do you have any sources for learning level design and architecture? love the really good looking concrete, and cannot figure out how to do them well.
@sodawater5316

i thought it's kind of hinted to by the video, but i learned everything myself. it's purely guided by my sense of beauty or style. there are a lot of good tutorials for hammer, however, that you can use for more technical stuff, and i would suggest looking at your favorite maps and levels, "deconstructing" how they make and design certain things. always a good source of inspiration, as well as just imagining random enveironments and abstract shapes.

also try taking textures from sites like textures.com i also used a tool called materialize to generate normal maps that make textures feel 3d. subtle but noticeable effect

@sodawater5316
@sodawater5316 16 күн бұрын
в кс2 очень крутой движок и я бы с радостью там что-то сделал но к сожалению пока что там нет нормального сообщества и развитости нишевых режимов по типу бхопа. я планировал кз карту сделать но мод еще в разработке

I’m not a bhopper, it’s also the first time a hear about the community. I think this video has been recommended to me by yt because yesterday I casually watched a 1h30m long video explaining hl2 speed run techniques. Aw I watched your video till the end and enjoyed it. I liked your considerations, philosophical and practical thoughts, and your process of thoughtfully going from aesthetics to mechanics and viceversa. May I ask for your help for a projects I’m working on? I need an expert map designer consult. If it doesn’t bother you may I ask if you have a discord or an e-mail or any way to contact? Thanks in advance and I wish you all the best 😊
