My Marriage is a 1936 American drama film directed by George Archainbaud and written by Frances Hyland. The film stars Claire Trevor, Kent Taylor, Pauline Frederick, Paul Kelly, Helen Wood and Thomas Beck. The film was released on January 31, 1936, by 20th Century Fox.
When gangster's bullets put an end to the career of H.J. Barton, underworld gambling czar who masquerades as a respectable member of high society, his daughter Carol is left to bear the brunt of social stigma. Barney Dolan, a policeman friend of Barton, pledges to aid Carol in finding the killers of her father. She attempts to run away from the publicity, but is brought back by her fiancée, John DeWitt Tyler III, aristocratic young society man, and they are married, but his smothering mother, Mrs. DeWitt Tyler II, secretly schemes to destroy the marriage. When Carol asks her husband to choose between her and his mother, he refuses and she leaves him. Roger Tyler, her husband's brother, visits Carol at her hotel and confesses he was forced by the killers to lead them to her father and one of the killers,Marty Harris, breaks into the room...and gunfire ensues.

I wish they still designed beautifully made clothing like back then! Elegance! Which is lacking today 😢

They still DO design elegant clothing for socialites/aristocrats, the Social Register group, and they always dress for dinner. Nothing has changed for them.

Claire Trevor is one of my favorite film noir actors. She shines in every role she plays.

Claire Trevor had the best "subtle dramatic eye roll" game in the business! Just watch her eyes as she handles situations in this and all of her other films.

Breath-taking finale. Duryea also merits applause for how he made his difficult role plausible, let alone convincing. This film exudes drama of the finest order.

This is a remarkably touching and convincing film. Claire Trevor is still dazzling, and this could be her finest role. There are some original and memorable scenes and equally memorable dialogue.

Good movie but I miss the full experience. Can you insert an intermission, bouncing ball sing along, film reel commercials, movie tone news, Steamboat Willie cartoons, organ music? Sometimes a movie is not enough.

Had only seen Claire Trevor in “Dead End” & “Stagecoach” but this movie made me realize she was quite a good actress! Not sure if she’s wearing a wig or tons of hairspray -her hair doesn’t move even when she takes off a hat. And her mother-in-law is an expert eavesdropper, but Claire/Carol decides she will overlook that going forward. Heck, she should’ve gone for the cop with the sweet mama instead of gravitating back to the demented rich family. Her dying father-who milked his death scene BTW-wanted the cop to look after her...but Carol misses her spying mother-in-law, her weak bi-polar brother-in-law and lunching & lounging in Long Island.

Her connected gangster father has been "mobbed-off" and she thinks a trip to Europe in 1936 will clear her head....if her dad was a rich kingpin, why doesn't she simply liquidate his assets (since she's the sole heir)? So many questions....so few answers. "Ugly....warped....and contemptible....." this has all the makings of a "Greek" tragedy.....a fine film....in my opinion, of course.

With Claire Trevor, Kent Taylor, Pauline Frederick, Paul Kelly, Helen wood and Thomas beck-I’ve seen Claire Trevor in dead end and stagecoach and thought she was good in both of them but this one is really great-even though it’s something of a melodrama-imagine being a daughter of an underworld gambling czar gunned down by his enemies-leaving her to face social stigma- marrying her fiancee-a rich guy who disapproves of the marriage and tries to destroy it-when things cleared up, the ending was a disappointment because the cop who was the friend of the woman who pledged to find the killers of her father should have been the one to be with her and not the rich man! I give the flick 2 stars for a! 😮😮😮😮😮😅

How do you get to hell? Very simple: claim that you're innocent. How do you get to heaven? Very simple: Admit that you're not Innocent, you're guilty and ask for mercy. How to know if you're guilty or not? Simply: Compare your life to the Ten Commandments God gave you in the Bible. Everyone agrees that if people followed the ten commandments there would be no need for governments or police. Do not lie. Do not steal. Do not commit adultery. Do not insult God by using his name as a cuss word. There are six more but let's just leave it at that. How many lies have you told in your life? Have you ever taken anything that didn't belong to you? Jesus said, if you look at a women lustfully you've already committed adultery in your heart with that woman. How many times a day do you do that? Do you use God's name as a cuss word? Would you do that with your own mother's name? If you answer these questions honestly you know that you're guilty. God can justly punish you and send you to hell. Ask him for mercy. His name is Jesus. It's as simple as this, The Ten Commandments are called the moral law. You and I broke God's laws. Jesus paid the fine. The fine is death. Ezekiel 18:20 - "The soul who sins shall die. That's why Jesus had to die on the cross for our sins. This is why God is able to give us Mercy. Option A. You die for your own sins. Option B. Ask for mercy and accept that Jesus died on the cross for you.
