📚 Description:
The ultimate reason why I see these 5 masterbuilts becoming highly collectible and sought after one day is simply because these are Fender Custom Shop Official "Knockoff" Homebrew "Partscasters." They weren't actually made in the custom shop! But They were made in the homes of 2 master builders each while they were away due to the Global Pandemic Shut Downs. For example - this was was a collective group effort between Yuriy Shishkov and his old apprentice / now-masterbuilder himself Kyle McMillin. This telecaster was personally worked on by both of them in their private homes. You can't say that for all masterbuilt guitars! It gives them more of a boutique vibe.
I've been informated that Yuriy Shishkov is planning to retire soon and that no new orders are being fulfilled by him. This makes this one of his last official Fender works!

Love this episode. My only issue with the guitar was when you pulled off the pickguard that spot where the finish didnt stick looked so out of place on a guitar this nice. I mean maybe they thought nobody would take the pickguard off but still on a 15000 $ masterbuilt guitar I think missing something like that is wrong.
@hkguitar1984
@hkguitar1984 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm sure their resources at home were limited as compared to the actual Custom Shop. I agree with you though, putting the pickgaurd over that finish blem sounds like something I'd do!
@alabamahebrew
@alabamahebrew 4 жыл бұрын
The issue with a burl top is that it is actually sort of bad wood to begin with. You have to be careful with it other wise it can be a real headache to work with. More than like what happened there is as they were building the guitar that chunk fell out and there's really not much you can do about it other than starting over or putting a pickguard on it.

@russellzauner
@russellzauner 4 жыл бұрын
clear epoxy would stabilize it and even though it's a tiny pickguard it's in the right spot and it's replaceable to keep you from burrowing into wood, especially softer or inconsistently grained wood like some types of burl or spalting.
@Xalor69
@Xalor69 4 жыл бұрын
Burl comes from cutting through knots. That spot is a knot that fell out, and they filled it in, but it wouldn't take finish. That pick guard is gorgeous, as is the burl top. Consummate professionals to be able to take a flaw and cover it and have the result look better than if the flaw wasn't there.

The ending part of the description was mixed in with the Tamo Strat. I just read it word for word to poke some fun at this tele being called a strat. I don’t believe this was ever meant to have a string tree
@Coppertunes
@Coppertunes 4 жыл бұрын
@New New Milo Modern tuners, they'll be staggered eliminating the need for a string tree. Strings trees make no difference regards string tension.
@michaeltyler1834
@michaeltyler1834 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Austin messed up everyone by jokingly reading off the mixed up description. I'm assuming the tuning machines are staggered like the Eric Johnson Strat (Best strategy for the $$ period) and therefore eliminate those half-assed designed catch points known as string trees. Which aren't for tension btw... just to make sure the skinny strings stay in the nut slots where they belong.

@michaeltyler1834
@michaeltyler1834 4 жыл бұрын
You can tell Yuri Shishkov's work from a mile away. I could tell it from the thumbnail. Though your definition of which one is fanciest is a little off in my opinion. Burled redwood top with silver filigree, inlaid emeralds (or what appear to be emeralds), and engraved parts... all by Yuri and his apprentice. Okay so you just said in the video that it's green diopside crystals and diamonds, an WHOA that upclose image of the neck was SICK. That redwood burl looks like an old worn piece of leather, and that extremely well placed piece of green felt around the pickup really make this thing give off the aura of a handmade antique single shot rifle or over and under shotgun by Holland&Holland or any of the top makers. I feel thats what they were kind of going for. It would be cool as hell to see some blueing or case hardening on some of the hardware. Also I hope everyone takes a moment to stare and appreciate what they did with the pickguard. They could've easily done something with the pick guard that would've greatly detracted from the custom feel and overall cohesiveness of this amazing work of art, but instead they pulled out their hats an elegantly understated design and placement for the guard that honestly deserves a tip of the cap. A true work of art! Thanks for documenting this one. They left out the disc string tree.

Great video! I try not to be too negative these days, but I think that case is super underwhelming for a guitar of that magnitude... The neck pickup pocket doesn't have felt in it, it's called flocking. You coat the cavity with a glue, then there's this puffing tool that uses air to puff the fibers at the glue. Let it set up a couple minutes and blow out the fibers that didn't stick and you're done. That's why you can see Yuri's stamp- there is no solid piece of anything over it so the flocking fibers conform to the stamp.

Thanks for making this video! Amazing craftsmanship. That being said, didn't like how it sounds, especially on bridge pickup. But those guitars aren't made for playing anyway, so I guess it's a good way to explore exotic materials and ideas without being limited by guitar having to sound "right".

Burl looks best in natural oil finish. High gloss would be too much. The green stuff in the pickup cavity is green flock. There is a process called flocking where you spray an adhesive down, then blow the flock (green stuff) into the cavity onto the adhesive. Flock comes in many colors. Process is used often in furniture building. I think it looks best with the pick guard as well. I wasn’t sure about the shape at first, then it grew on me.

Yeah, gotta be careful cause things can and do happen. That said, he's pulled guitars apart before that cost a lot more than $15K. The thing is, how many chances do you get to look under the hood on a guitar like that. I would 100% take it apart too!

I almost did, but then I remembered the Tony Iommi (sp.?) and then I didn't feel so bad.

I built a Tele not long ago and bought a pickguard for it during the build. Then didn't use it because the wood was too nice to cover.

I really have a deep respect for Fender, although my fingers never get familiar with the scale of their fretboards. For me personally the "Gibson-Scale" is more comfortable. It´s my "fault". Anyway - this Tele is really BEAUTIFUL! If you look at the details its sure worth the money! Thanks a lot for showing us this great guitar! Greetings from Germany

I like it apart from the missing fretboard dots. Abalone dots would have really finished it off......oh and maybe the disc string tree was invisible?
