Жыл бұрынFor the past few months I’ve been building up a brand new setup in my free time. It took a lot longer than I was anticipating, and when I thought I was done. Something popped up in my inbox, or I encountered an issue with something like cable management or certain items not working as expected, But I’m finally proud to show off my brand new minimal and modern desk setup. I'm using an A7iii and every shot of the desk was bounce lighting off the ceiling and the a-roll shots were a basic 3 point lighting setup.

Spot on video! I have the halo 75 in white keyboard from Nuphy. I would recommend this keyboard. (Rose glacier switches) They also have it in black too. I have the 65, and 96 too. :)

When cutting the Karlby, can I ask how you got the end you cut to look un-cut again?

Check out the Nuphy Halo65/75/96. I've got the Halo65 and it's an extremely nice feeling board right out of the box, it has 2.4ghz or bluetooth wireless (comes with a receiver), and build quality is insanely solid, I was shocked by how heavy it feels. I recommend the baby kangaroo switches, which are great if you like a tactile feel.

@@ChrisWilmshurst The one you are thinking of is the Air75, which is their low profile series. The Halo boards are regular profile.

Oh man. This is the set up I am trying to achieve but it's pretty daunting as you need so much stuff. Would this work with a cheaper USB hub? That seems to be the most expensive items for me at the moment

You definitely could. A while back I was using an OWC travel dock-e as my main hub for my MacBook/monitor. You’d just need to make sure the usb c cables you use are high quality and support 100w charge and full data speeds.

Sweet thanks. Is there any way to know what USB will play properly with other USBs ahead of time? Or are good cable really the only deciding factor in this?

Honestly, I’d recommend buying well known brands like OWC, Caldigit, anker, etc cables. Don’t skimp out and read a lot of reviews on the listings

@@ChrisWilmshurst Hey thanks so much for your reply, I really appreciate the time you've taken to help I still have a couple of questions though. I was just wondering how you wire this all up and where you put the Caldigit, USB hub and switcher in the sequence. I guess ideally you'd plug everything into the caldigit and use a thunderbolt switcher so you have less stuff to deal with. Does this even exist? It doesn't look like this is how you've wired it though, so I was wondering what you put into what. Hope that makes sense ha, cheers

@@SiHargreaves Hey it's no issue at all. The USB Switch is located behind the standing desk panel for easy reach. The wires are all fed behind the central column of the desk and taped up with cable clips. In terms of a thunderbolt switch, I personally do not use one as the caldigit dock is located on the grovemade shelf and is linked directly to the Mac only and the PC runs wires direct to the monitor and the usb hub under the desk with 5m cables. There is a thunderbolt 4 switch was announced, but my PC doesn't have a thunderbolt port and it's too old to warrant a PCI-e card for one so I wouldn't personally need it.

How do you cope with the little depth of the IKEA Karlby? I am 6'1 tall and had issues with my feet having not enough space to the wall with it, thus why I switched back to a normal 80cm deep desk

I’m only 5’11 so it’s not to much of an issue for me. If anything I wish the monitor arm was thinner so I could push the shelf back further

Do you think the OMEN 27u 4K Gaming Monitor is better than the LG 27GP95R-B 27”? I want to have a monitor for the purposes of gaming and also for video editing purposes, and I know you have now had your hands on both monitors, so in your opinion, which do you think is the better monitor for the dual purposes of relaxation and work?

I will be straight up with you. I’ve never used the omen monitor (or any omen for that matter) but I can say the lg is very good for both. My full time job is a photographer/videographer for a company and the LG is almost a perfect match for my MacBook Pro but with the added benefit of being really good for gaming.

I have zero doubts that Grovemade products are top notch, but they are really expensive indeed, lately with lots of options with way lower prices, I probably would never buy it. We mortals that don't get things for free with no strings attached can only dream about it lol.

I completely get your point and like I said, I most likely would not have forked out myself for them. However as someone who’s purchased a cheaper alternative, the quality, packaging, and overall finish is better than my previous (which is now what my tv sits on top of) haha. but its not large or heavy? I had a g pro wireless before, that was too small and hurt to use, the g502 doesn't hurt to use. I think you need to hit the gym if you think the g502x is heavy. did you accidentally have the additional weights installed into yours? @@sreyassreekumar5917

89 grams for a mouse is considered to be on the heavier side; that’s why you don’t see anyone use it for competitive gaming anymore. Use Rocket Jump Ninja’s method to find a mouse better fit for your hand; he has a video on how to measure your hand, and a website where you can plug those measurements in and find a good mouse for you. P.S. just tryna help you man, no need to attack me

Im not attacking you, I'm sorry if it came across that way. but 89grams is not heavy for a mouse, The MX master 3s I use on the other hand is almost double the weight. Thats why I use the cardio with it. The g502x fits my hand perfectly and weighs nothing in my hands. I appreciate your concern and help, but it's honestly not needed. I've been PC gaming for 20+ years, so any pain I suffer has developed over that long period + injuries riding bikes. I've tried also sorts of mice and the 502/502x has always felt the best in my hand. @@sreyassreekumar5917

Your PC would run better with a simple cpu upgrade. Your bottlenecking the 3090 using that older processor. So you haven’t even seen what your GPU is actually capable of.

I never paid full price. I always shop for deals. However I will say you get what you pay for. The quality and reliability of the Philips hue stuff is far better than any other smart lights I’ve found out of there. Also? It may be the prices where you are, but the bulb was £20 here which is a good price for a smart bulb. Obviously? Everything in this video can be done on a budget (excluding the thunderbolt cable)
