This is my new minimal setup for 2020! Featuring an IKEA SALJAN (affordable Karlby alternative) countertop sitting on two white IKEA Alex drawers, an IKEA Markus chair, three monitors, desktop, laptop, and more. In this setup tour I go over all the tech and equipment I use daily in my workspace.

Does the IKEA Karlby Desky sag? I bought two Alex drawer cabinets and a 186 cm wide Karlby countertop. If there is no foot in the middle, will it sag?

Niceeee dude. I just ordered the saljan along with a few adils table legs. My plan was to use only one alex drawer and two legs on the opposite end, maybe a leg in the middle for support. However, it looks like my Ikea is out of alex drawers :( do you have any ideas what I could use as a substitute?

Aye man have you noticed any sag since using it? I was thinking of buying legs and placing it the middle but that would look ugly.

alternatives to the ikea legs, someone on reddit recommended strut channels which gives a greater reinforcement apparently

i have this setup, i don't have middle support legs on it. it's not really needed, the countertop is pretty strong in itself.

I noticed that Ikea's price differs according to colors of the product, as you can see, most high demanding colors are more pricey. Saljan and Karlby are pretty much the same, but since the dark walnut color of the Karlby is more demanding than normal wood color of the Saljan, so they increased the price of the Karlby. Same goes to most of the tabletops, you can see the best color variant is more expensive than the normal but the material is the same.

Can the Saljan handle the weight of 3 monitors mounted with a clamp?

Absolutely. It’s not hollow. Even though it’s not real wood it’s solid and can even be cut to size. Just make sure if you have a long table top to place a leg in the center. I have a 74 inch hammarp which is solid oak and I added angle iron in the middle and eventually added a aldis leg in the center even though it wasn’t sagging at all. I think I’m going to trade my oak for this because I want a bigger desk but I can’t find any oak butcher blocks in 1 1/8 inch thickness so I’ll have to sell my oak countertop that served me well for over 4 years and I’m going to get two of these 74 to create an l shaped desk. I have dual 34 inch ultrawides stack mounted and a heavy water cooled pc. I’ve also had six gallon aquascapes with heavy stone and driftwood. No problem!

No sagging at all! If you got the even larger version of this desk then you might need to get a leg to prevent sagging, but theres none with this size.
