You can buy a dehumidifier for your home. It will remove all the moisture from your air. A house that size you might need one per floor.

The mini split literally uses very little electricity it's not like the American HVAC systems the Mini Splits also condition and clean the air as well as act as dehumidifiers and constantly pull moisture out of the air they're literally the perfect Appliance to have to condition your air! Being in that subtropical climate you should run your AC or at least keep it on the dry setting all the time! Those are new units so they should be well insulated but if you're having issues with your mini split not keeping your entire space at a normalized temperature then maybe look for cracks under the doors or Energy Efficiency using a thermal camera to see if maybe the windows aren't as an efficient as they could be and that's where you're losing your cool air or where your heat exchange is happening but you turning the AC off is the worst thing you could do for your Energy Efficiency it causes everything in the room to warm up so when you do turn the AC on it has to work twice as hard to cool all the surfaces back down before it can keep it even at a constant temperature where is if you just leave the small appliance on all the time it uses less electricity and less energy because it doesn't have to cool things off it just keeps them cool all the time cool and dry I know I'm rambling and sound like a Salesman but I do know what I'm talking about

Hola Malikah! Nice digs, thanks for the tour of your new home! After remote beach camping and surfing throughout Baja for over 40 years with never any problems, I fell in love with the happy friendly people and family based culture, so I retired early and moved to Ensenada from the LA/Ventura area of CA last year. Although I do have a funny story about meeting some cartel members about 30 years ago at remote point break near Punta Abreojos while camping, I feel much safer here than in the US (and I'm a blond haired blue eyed definitely white guy gringo!!) Only the cartels have guns and they tend to keep things between themselves in well known areas to stay away from whereas everyone in the US has a gun and shootings are randomly happening everyday, everywhere and anywhere you may go! Where I live is two miles from the beach and the harbor malecon/centro area, it's the busiest and most crowded part of the city. I have a car but really only use it to go to the local beaches to go surfing or to the "Big" mercados and the occasional two hour drive south of town to camp and surf at the multiple perfect point breaks near a sleepy fishing village named Camalu. I just filled it up for the fourth time since flying to McAllen Texas to the only Consulate where could I still qualify on my SS pension to get my Temporary Resident Visa and driving here from LA last November. Within a half mile of me I have everything I regularly need that I can walk or take a short bike ride to and the weather is perfect year round with low heat, no humidity, mosquitos or bugs so I can spend my days outside without the need for a/c. It gets cool enough to sleep comfortably at night with some blankets. I have a no GMO freshly harvested organic fruit, juice and vegetable stand right across the street where everything is low price, like an avocado for around $0.50us and numerous food stands and restaurants where I can easily get a tasty lunch or dinner. I walk a few times a week for lunch at a place where you can get fresh caught $1.30us fish tacos con todo and another place where you can get get Al Pastor (marinated pork on a fired spit, mmmm!) tacos con todo for $14 pesos or around $0.77us each!! I rent a beautifully furnished one bedroom one bath with all utilities, cable and internet with maid and laundry service included for $12,000 pesos per month or around $654us at todays exchange rate of 18.33 in the higher end Colonia Hidalgo part of Ensenada. It was just under $600us when I moved here. Even though my electric is included, my bill has never been over $7.50us per month! Anyone who is still on the fence and contemplating a move to Mexico to live a much more affordable, healthier, happier and safer life, don't wait or keep putting it off because the time will never seem to be "just right"! After all isn't it a higher quality no stress life what we all strive for? Buena suerte!🤷‍♂😎🏄🌮🍍🥥🍯

I love your place. I like the modern kitchen cabinets. I also like the black bars along the steps! yep! Most houses don't have ANY rails along the steps...VERY dangerous!. Your Landlord REALLY thought about the water issue. I have NEVER seen that setup with the water bottle pump into the fridge. That's wonderful. Landlord might consider putting a split unit IN the bedroom after you've lived there for a bit.

I LOVE your home and I too have already start living the minimalist life before I retire abroad. I sold all of my furniture except the queen bed frame and dresser. Your rent is budget friendly and it’s according to your budget. I will retire in four years and I’m making plans to retire in Mexico. I’ve had enough of the United States. My first visit to Mexico was in 2018 just for fun and I instantly fell in love with the vibe. I just left Mexico this pass October with family (third visit). I will visit Mexico for the fourth time solo for three weeks in June of 2024. I plan to ride the Maya Train and spend sometime in Merida. I hope to see you around Malikah!! #readytoretire, #myretirementjourney. Pamela Munn😊

FOR your stove rack ; try visiting a large hardware store, Lowe's, Home Depot, take the dimensions with you Call your AC guy and ask him to raise up the bottom attachment mountings maybe 2 inches, then the air flow would go straight out vs hitting you in the back. Is some adjustment with the vent flap, you can raise it up higher too You live like we do here in Brasil, we go to bed at 0100 and wake up at noon ! Totally retired ! Have rented a 1br 100 feet from the ocean for $400 a month there but bought a 700 sq ft apto and live on $600 a month !

There is an aftermarket parts store in Mexico that I will try. Home Depot said the stove parts cannot be sold separate and they can't order . Enjoy your retirement! I lived in a 500 sq ft condo in Bangkok before Mexico and that really was all I needed.

Not to flush toilet paper down the toilet is an idea that some people think is the way it should be….but please ask other people…I am pretty sure you can flush it just fine across the entire Mexican republic….even more with only one person living there…I am Mexican ….I remember, like 45 years ago, there used to be sings at restaurant b-rooms instructing costumers not to use the trash bins but to flush instead. btw…your sofa is short because of the modern style…
@davidsebastianelli1326
@davidsebastianelli1326 8 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. The reason you can't flush your TP in a lot of places in Mexico is because those buildings are old and have old and smaller pipes. Most newer places have bigger pipes so you are able to flush. I've gotten used to it. Just keep the butter side down!
@qymrmz
@qymrmz 8 ай бұрын
@@davidsebastianelli1326 I have to disagree. Older buildings have 4” clay pipes…. Maybe the sewer system was not as good….or maybe the old toilet installations had no vent pipes, therefore no pressure….But…in reality…it is more like a bad habit….my grandma wouldn’t let us flush the tp (at her house) until the city prohibited burning trash in the backyard and finally she accepted the fact that all would be fine…and it was….about 50 years ago…

You go girl: you travel and how your living your best life God bless you. I love how you are able to find solutions to problems in your home and sharing with us, you made me want to move there. Right on

A small twin tub machine (semi automatic, washer and spin dryer) may work well for your washing. It requires more attention due to the manual expelling and refilling of the washing tub but it is gentle on clothing and the spin dryer allows you to save on electric drying. Add a drying clothes rack and it can take care of the laundry needs of a small family.

DIY humidifier tip, get two buckets, drill small holes in the bottom of the first one to drain the liquid once it absorbs the moisture. Secondly place the first bucket inside of the second one and fill the first bucket with pool salt. I’ve done this for years in my basement and kitchen for years. You can always break apart the salt once it hardeners to reuse.For small spaces I just get a large salt and pepper shaker and place salt in those and label .

Great tip! Same thing as the refillable damp rid containers I have . I’m going to find where I can get pool salt and try this!

@@malikahonthemove Unfortunately the cost of living here in Toronto is out of control. Rent and food prices are beyond ridiculous. If I could only get a job down in Mexico or a full remote job I would have already left Canada. My research has started and I won’t stop until I make my dream a reality.

Hi, I just came across this video and love the information. I just left Merida yesterday after visiting to see if what I had been seeing and reading was true. To sum it up, I didn't want to leave. I really love Merida (the Cenotes, Progreso Beach, nightly entertainment in the squares...). I am planning on returning in July for an extended stay. Thank you for taking the time to share your home and experiences. 🙂

I also live in Conkal. All the AC units have a dry button. Its like a built in dehumidifier. You are not kidding when you say they don't think things through when building homes. Most Mexicans don't bake or use the oven much. It's just not part of their traditional meals. It also causes a lot of heat in homes as the stoves are not as insulated as the ones we use in the U.S. Cooking outside is very common.I personally use the air fryer to bake.
@malikahonthemove
@malikahonthemove 8 ай бұрын
Hey neighbor! Yes, the dry button wears the AC out faster per the technician. I do use the air fryer but wanted to make cake and try to make bread/rolls that are too big for the air fryer.😔
