I think I learned more about Greek mythology from Xena and this movie more than my actual mythology class in high school!😂 I remember reading the Iliad and the Odessey etc but the names were so hard for me to retain and grasp. Of course it was high school and was more into my social skills than my intellect at the time.😆 And to think Troy was a city of mythological legend...until it was actually discovered!!! And the funny part is, Greeks and Turks are still their arch enemies today but they also love and respect each other. It is a weird relationship. Also some funny informations: When Mehmet II conquered Constantinople 1453, he said that he revenged Hector. In WW1, 1915, the Brltlsh send an undefeated armada, the most powerful navy ever seen at this date that led by battleship HMS Agamemnon to capture Gallipoli, the exact place where Troy used to stand, but they defeated and HMS Agamemnon docked to Smyrna (Izmir/Turkey today) until Turks won the independence war against Greeks (1922) and Kemal Ataturk threaten the Brltlsh by dictating he’d sink HMS Agamemnon if she won’t leave Turkish waters, as a result HMS Agamemnon fled back to Britain and Ataturk also said he avenged Hector. Ataturk tried to find how Hector was looked like since he also used the tactic Hector used to defeat Greeks to put a statue for his honor, unfortunately couldn’t succeed to find out how he was looked like.

The only thing I dislike is Menelaus, in mythology/literature he was a honorable man and he loved his wife. Here, he is some barbaric brute.

Brad was so incredible as Achilles. Also would recommend Immortals if you haven't seen it. It's starring a young Henry Cavill. It was the 1st film I saw him in. He plays Theseus in the movie

Speaking of historical period epic films, another one directed by Ridley Scott that I think is often underrated and also stars Orlando Bloom is the 2005 'Kingdom of Heaven'. Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson, an unrecognizable Ed Norton, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson and they are all great.

There were trailers for this for over a year and half before it came out. Not many movies can live up to that kind of hype... This did.

Oh, for once after watching the reaction for Troy i didn't have to leave a comment about a true death of Agamemnon :D I had a book about Greek and Roman mythos during my childhood and read it back and forth dozens of time. My favorites were Troy epos and then the beginning of Rome.

He brought him to fight but not until it was a situation where achilles could control it. The invasion wasnt thst. But later he would have set patroclus loose when he was able to make sure he wouldnt get hurt.

A masterpiece when it comes to the peplum genre! What Hollywood is too prudish to tell you is that Patrocles is not Achilles'cousin, but his lover. No wonder he was angry! Horses were created by Poseidon out of the ocean's foamy waves, that's why the Troyan horse is seen as an offer to Poseidon. This being said, this is a very entertaining movie. I really enjoyed your reactions as well as your knowledge of ancient history.

It's good you showed her the theatrical version, the director's cut doesn't have that music.

I enjoyed the extended cut, which has more of Odysseus and Ajax. Having said that, I prefer the 2003 miniseries HELEN OF TROY. Obviously not the budget of the theatrical version, but well done.

Other movies based on Greek mythology I recommend watching are the Clash of the Titans remake and its sequel Wrath of the Titans. Historical drama series I recommend watching are Rome and Spartacus

I think this is great movie, but to this day i can't hear Odysseus' name without thinking of the children's show "Wishbone", and the little dog Wishbone plays him in that. The most sarcastic line of the show; "I AM POSIDON, KING OF THE SEA!" "I am Odysseus. Floating on this raft."

If you want another historical epic, also featuring Orlando Bloom, i'd recommend "Kingdom of Heaven".

Nice reaction. I like this movie but I cannot compare it with the Iliad or Greek mythology... it would drive me mad. They basically made the Greeks more like villains. For example, Agamemnon is my favorite hero from the Trojan War, but here in this movie... horrible (Menelaus the same). Agamemnon was badass, one of the best warriors and hero, loyal, honest, great king and leader of whole greek army. BTW I love how many historians and "experts" today don't think it's likely that a war (and such a large one) would have started just because of a woman... they kind of overlook how big a deal Xenia was, the law of hospitality which is overseen by the supreme Zeus himself; that Helen - "the woman" - was not just woman but the queen of Sparta, most beautiful in world and beloved wife of their king; and also somehow everyone forgets that Paris along with Hellena also took away the entire Spartan treasury... absolutely sufficient reasons for the involvement of all the Greeks and their allies against Troy and its allies. Paris insulted, humiliated and betrayed Menelaus and all the Greeks as much as he could. It would be rather impossible for something like that not to start a war. :D Not to mention the previous bad relations of the Greeks with the Trojans (mainly because of the treacherous ruler Laomedon).
