Nice video! My iA (like yours) was my favourite but I just got a 1934 model F and I think for usability this might now be my favourite! Love these cameras!

Awesome video as always! Have you ever considered making more and more in depth repair videos? I'm very interested in the actual act and technicalities behind repairing such an old piece of technology, can't imagine the amount of insights you'd be able to give as you wall through the whole process of taking apart the camera and getting it back together!

Excellent review on the Leica III. As you stated, form followed function on the early Leica screw mount 35mm cameras. My oldest camera is a Leica II from 1932. It has the basics for 35mm photography - minus the slower shutter speeds, the focus lever for the rangefinder image and the strap lugs that were added to the Leica III. I had the Leica II overhauled in 2009 and it still functions as it designed to to do 89 years after it left Wetzlar.

Great reviews on the Barnack Leicas. Liked your previous review too. Been a Leica M2-M3 photographer since the 70’s having given up my Nikon F And F2 for range finders. Bought a Leica IIIa (1936) about 10 years ago and started using it about 9 months ago. Just CLA’d it and it is a different experience than using M’s. The Barnack’s are smaller and with a collapsable lens a pocketable camera. Thank you for bringing the older Leica’s to the attention of your viewers.

Leicas are beautiful. I also specifically like the patina of the outside of that one in particular.

Such a beautiful camera! I also wonder if you have any recommendations for a relatively cheap range finder I could try just for getting into range finders?

I'd be really interested to see a video of you testing and adjusting the shutter speed, either on this camera or a different focal plane shutter camera. I know the two cogs at the bottom are adjustable but I never know what order to adjust them in or how to actually measure the effect of adjusting them.

I just got a Leica iiia from 1935. The Slow speed did not work so I dismantled it, cleaned the gears at the bottom and also opened the top cover to clean and lubricate. I got the slow speed to work again, it seems to open at the correct times. But I think it still be something wrong as the shutter only release if I let go of the shutter button, if I keep holding it down the shutter will stay open until I release the button, the fast speed ones operate as normal. I played around with the spring and the lever but could not figure it out. The camera looks good and even the shutter curtains look great with no holes.

Great show! always really interesting to see, and hear, something about these older cameras. If you are able to, please include at least a little something of your shutter speed adjustment including the two "screws" under the bottom plate of the camera. Recently purchased a little bit newer, but with similar shutter adjustment mechanism, Russian Fed-2. I wanted to try it out, and was very surprised as to what a pleasant experience shooting with this camera was. I don't know which of the curtains is which, but I had a look at the curtain and found it to be in great condition. Shot a film and it was very damaged by light. Had another look at the curtain(s) this time I wound the film (without any film in the camera) and found that the other curtain was extremely see-through. Even so, some of the images were somewhat ok. At least to confirm that my adjustment of the range finder had been ok. Thanks again for an excellent video.

Freakin beautiful. Even though I mostly prefer medium format these days, definitely won't say no to such beauty. I wonder if this is an original black (from factory) or just a custom paint?

I love your videos and always look forward for new ones. One question.. what do you use for lubrication of parts after cleaning? If I cannot find the specific item what can I substitute it with?

In the words of the Gershwins “You like potato and I like potahto, You like tomato and I like tomahto, Potato, potahto, tomato, tomahto!” Doesn’t matter how you pronounce it. Watch his videos and find him quite knowledgeable in the subject matter.

The company was started by Ernest Leitz who then named the company Leica which combines his name with Camera... Leica. So its a matter of respecting his name which has nothing to do with Potato Potahto. Mr SUUNG... see what I did there !!!@@garysong8163
