CBT, Direct Access and my first 'big' motorbike
My biker chick motorcycle journey: Starting with my bike CBT (compulsory basic training), through to my Direct Access Course (DAS), passing my motorcycle test (Mod 1 and Mod 2) and getting my full unrestricted UK motorcycle licence. After which, I bought my first big motorcycle, a Suzuki SV650cc, and my first and second bike rides out on the road.

I started on a 500cc, went up to a 600cc, then a 1000cc. Then I found I wasn’t getting out enough, so sold it. Two years later I just needed a bike as I was missing it, so I bought a Grom just for fun. And it certainly was fun. But uncomfortable. So now I’m on a 300cc. And it’s perfect. I just feel I don’t need anything bigger anymore. Mind you, it took me 20 years to realise this.

It's great to see someone who is so enthusiastic about biking. So many bikers are around my age, 62, it's so difficult to get into bikes now. I bought a new Honda SS50 on my 16th birthday, the salesman showed me the controls and I had to ride 10 miles home! No CBT in 1976! I got a CB250G5 in 1977, passed my test 2 weeks later, taught myself to ride, and I'm still loving biking!

Brilliant channel, so refreshing getting a female perspective. I have a Benelli 125, cbt behind me and taking my test in a years time. ( and already checking out a few big bikes, must say, all of them adventure bikes) I never considered a Suzuki SV650, but the seat height is exactly the same as my Benelli which is perfect! I get both feet nearly flat on the ground. And the lightweight frame is a dream. My husband and I got our bikes at the same time, but yes, I still get the "instructor treatment"! We are looking forward to loads of road trips once we have passed mod1 and mod2. We are both 60!

Not been watching you long so just looking back at this older stuff. Yep that bike was the best thing you could have started bigger bikes with. I've been riding since God was a lad and had them all. Sports bikes are great for track days and short ride outs and of course posing if that's your thing. I had a 2017 R1M for track days and you can't beat it for that ( and the posing photos) but it was the pitts on the road!!!. Much nicer to ride my old R1200RT on the streets which I still have (my forever bike). Love your adventures can't wait to see what you are going to get up to next.

She took every mistake along the way SUPER hard, I think watching this would have really helped her chill out a bit and not take everything so hard. Theres a lot of pressure on women to be perfect at all times, so I think it's extremely difficult to take this pressure into exam conditions! I'm a pensioner with 50 years on the road under my belt ,my sister had a little honda moped back in the 1970s then in the 80s some little runabout then she took up biking seriously about a dozen years ago. A few years back I had the opportunity to ride with her in NZ where she lives she told me she learned stuff just watching me , I will need to watch her now, she's Amazing on 2 wheels on road track or gravel. The point is blokes fussing around learning ladies can be big time hold ups to their own self teaching. Only thing I have to tell anyone is check out California super bike school!

@SaffySprocket
@SaffySprocket 4 жыл бұрын
In terms of your DAS - I'd just say don't focus on perfection and enjoy the journey :) I've seen a lot of people telling themselves they will pass first time round and get pretty devastated - but it's not like school where you get either get an A* or you suck, the rules are there to keep you alive :D In terms of your CBT, total opposite - if you don't pass the first time round - I'd find a new school and wouldn't return to the first school! Loads of dodgy schools out there that deliberately fail people they think will and can afford to pay again :) CBT is training so if you don't 'pass' I'd look at the trainer who taught you - also avoid showing up in a nice car / nice clothes or give any indication you have money hahahah Which city are you paralegal-ling in?

Don't buy a sports bike. They are for taking around the track only and no fun on the road: The sitting position is super uncomfortable, you can't travel on it for longer than 45 minutes without putting your foot down and when you do, it feels like your bones have been welded together at the joints. Also it is no fun lying on the tank whilst speeding, concentrating on bends etc. and seeing / appreciating nothing out in the wonderful nature. Their stiff suspension is no fun on pothole ridden roads. They have shorter service intervals, drink petrol and cost more in general as well as having a shorter life expectancy. The SV is a great bike. Keep it.

I did a conversion day where I rode on a 650 to get use to it. Then I did one day training for mod 1 and one day training for mod 2 :)

When you take the CBT do they provide the motorbike? and if you have no experience do they teach you EVERYTHING???? Like how to initially drive it and such?

I been riding 125 nearly 3 years in UK. I used to ride Z800 in Thailand. Going from 125 to 800cc is a lots different on Power, torque and weight. I've recently passed motorcycle theory test and have my DAS booked in March next year, hopefully i will get z900 once I pass my test :-)

@@SaffySprocket Oh mines robust. Unlike my partner he managed to bruise himself and he moaned for weeks! He's now scared of my bike and claims it's the devil! But thank you for being so full of energy in your videos! I really want to create my own content and when I daydream about it I imagine myself being as full of energy as you are. My only drawback is anxiety and self esteem. So I'm hoping, now that I've seen someone else as excited as me that I can build up enough confidence to do it myself. Thanks a lot for being an inspiration!

@@nyleen You're a better woman than I am. If that had been my fella, woulda given him a lot more to complaint about hahaha, in relation content creation, the good thing about KZfaq is, when you film, you can take as many takes as you like! Sometimes I film a shot and I dont think it quite has the right feeling to it, or sometimes I'm about to say something and it just comes out my mouth as FFFFSPGKCDJB. Try making videos for yourself first, just film some things that you never intend to share online, just for the sake of getting use to talking in front of camera. Doesnt have to be ahiut motorbikes, just about anything, you can even immediately delete the footage straight after but it will still help your confidence and energy go up when you do come to make content you wanna share!

Hey I just found your channel. I love your content & that your a sexy biker chick 😉 I watch username Kates channel too! Your both equally awesome & I also did my bike lessons & test on a Suzuki Gladius sv650 & bought the same bike from the motorcycle schools shop second hand 2016 plate for £1,700 it came with the engine protection bars & a tank cover to strap a back pack onto it + it makes the bike feel/look abit beefier 👍
