I’m from Europe and familiar with SCM, it’s good kit, well made and reliable. Do please fit the top/crown guard to the saw, bigger machines can have a greater risk. Personally I’d go for the spring guard on the jointer, this way the blades are always covered, bridge guards leave the blades exposed and all too easy to clip a finger - seen it happen. Looking forward to seeing this new kit in full swing, enjoy.
@alexk1713
@alexk1713 2 жыл бұрын
On the contrary. The bridge guard is much safer. The spring guard leaves the right hand at risk while pushing the workpiece through. In order to get the benefits of the bridge guard you have to use it properly: wide boards go under it (lift it up 3-5mm higher than the workpiece is thick) and thin boards go behind it (pull the guard back). In Germany those swing guards are forbidden if you have employees in the shop since they tend to bear higher risks.

I’ve been watching your channel for a while now and love the shop you’re putting together. I’m actually planning on building a 6000 square-foot barndominium in the country and will put together my own wood shop, automotive shop, and video studio. So I get inspiration from videos like yours. Can’t wait to see that all in use.

When you shim up your minimax to make it level, you could paint some thin pinstripes to each outside corner on the floor, so when you do move it you can move it back into the exact same place every time without needing to check for level. Kinda like a basketball court markings but more discreet.

So nice having bandsaw in shop. Anyway, thanks for sharing brother, look forward to the next one!

Congratulations Rich! SCM makes great machines and I expect the combination machine will really become the heart of your workshop. On the subject of machine placement and workshop layout I would recommend figuring out the flow of material through the shop as this is a great way of finding out which machine goes where. There's no point in storing material on the left side to then haul it to the jointer on the right side and back to the assembly table on the left... Speaking of assembly tables, I can highly recommend building a Ron Paulk torsion box workbench. For a fixed installation you could place the torsion box on a large cabinet instead of Ron's sawhorses allowing for tons of storage space (be it tools, supplies or materials). Looking forward to the next video already :)
@ApexWoodworks
@ApexWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
The workflow concept is a good one, but only if you have enough space in your shop - which is something that Richard doesn't yet have. Same goes with fixed installation of the bench; there's no way he has the space needed to do this.
