Great video, BUT, you say to put the heat sensor between the mat and the glass? How come the mat is adhesive if you’re meant to put a sensor between it? That makes no sense.
@AaronRheinsReptiles
@AaronRheinsReptiles 3 жыл бұрын
The heat pad doesn’t come with a thermostat or any way to regulate heat. So they’re two separate products, that’s why they don’t work perfectly together, but the sensor and thermostat ARE necessary for the safety or your reptile! Snake discovery has a video explaining where to put the sensor, I’ll try to get you a link!

@@AaronRheinsReptiles great thanks. Yes I am fine with the need for a stat. I was just confused at your placement of the sensor based on the fact the heat mat manufacturer obviously designed it to adhere to a surface without consideration of placing a stat sensor. Essentially are we saying the heat mat is a poor design? I’m considering heat cable instead.

You should have some space between the bottom of the tank and the wood because it might start a fire
@6strings735
@6strings735 4 жыл бұрын
Well, wood burns at a pretty high temp, like over 200 deg F. If the heat pad was at the temp to ignite wood (it cannot get that high), the poor snake would be dead. However, you are correct that a liner would be better. You can get silicon thin pads used to protect surfaces from hot cookware. Cheap and easy, protects the wood below.
@AaronRheinsReptiles
@AaronRheinsReptiles 4 жыл бұрын
The heat pad is also connected to a thermostat so if it gets over a certain temp it automatically turns off.

I like the video however there are differing opinions about where to put the probe for their thermostat. The snake does not sit underneath the glass which is why many breeders and snake enthusiasts suggest putting the probe inside the tank where the snake is actually going to lay. There are obviously ways to monitor these temps. I would check out snake discovery’s channel and they make the suggestion of taping the probe inside the tank under the substrate. Not saying putting the probe under the glass is wrong ( it can work) but in all the hours of videos or watched i see far more breeders and snake owners putting the probe inside of the enclosure rather than outside fo the glass.

EB I trust snake discovery more. And either way, when I use the temp gun in his enclosure it’s exactly where I want it
@6strings735
@6strings735 4 жыл бұрын
The snake can move it off the heated area inside the cage, unless the probe is securely fixed. The way Aaron has it is just fine if not the best way. Milk and king snakes use mass heat - that is, warm surfaces as opposed to warm air - so having the probe on the heat pad is correct. Milk snakes burrow down, so the snake will be in contact with the glass.

I had a heat rock you plug in and put inside on the substrate for Damian( My Pueblan Milk snake) he would crawl on it and sleep after he at his Hopper mouse. then went in his hide for days,. I knew when I got him home pet store feedings and gave him 3 pinkies and he ate all 3 in record time ! thinking I overfed him and hurt him I called the pet store and explained what I did he told me if he was not sick or throwing up feed him 3 twice a week and if he still was not satisfied try 2 fuzzies then in a few months try a Hopper he said there is one drawback this is called power feeding and he will grow faster/ he was right in 1 year he grew as thick as a silver dollar and almost 3 feet long.!!

Please don't own anymore reptiles. Everything from the very first sentence about giving your snake a heating rock to the last about you power feeding your snake shows your completely dangerous (for the pets sake) lack of knowledge on snake/reptile husbandry.... Did you even do any research before or while owning your snake? Because honestly those are only like the 2 biggest "what not to do's" commonly talked about in the herping community other than running heat mats without a thermostat you couldn't get any worse.. smdh 🤦

Agree. Scoop the snake from underneath and don't squeeze him. Let him move freely and in no time he will get used to being handled. You said elsewhere your starting to handle him more so that's good.
