My New AP Royal Oak Diver! - Does Audemars Even Make A Real Dive Watch??

It's been a while since I have updated my collection but when the opportunity came up to pick up this AP Diver I jumped on it. The last time that I owned one of these watches was back 6-7 years ago. It was a model from Audemars Piguet that I enjoyed because it had the Royal Oak essence but still was more on the wearable tougher side. It's just a model that I like to have more as a daily wearer. Something that I can really sort of beat up and not cry about. I also like that its one of the few AP's thatI can wet and not worry. Not that Audemars is prone to water damage or anything but it's just not a Rolex Submariner. One of the biggest challenges on getting this watch back was finding one. Back when I sold mines, they would pop up very often preowned for sale. After I sold mines I never found one again. They became very few and far apart. Almost went from seeing 2-3 a month to seeing 2-3 a year. This sort of thing happens all the time when watch collecting, you think you are going to have a chance to find another and then it doesn't happen. The price usually changes as well, when I got my first one I payed $10K. Now this time around it cost me $13,500 on a wholesale level. Makes sense considering most watch prices have gone up.
One thing that I realized when I put the watch on is how it is a lot bigger than I remembered. Maybe its because I have been used to wearing Daytonas and Nautilus but initially I said wow. It was a lot bigger than i remembered. Overall I think its a great watch to just wear and get plenty of use out of. This time around I may think twice before selling it.

I love this watch I had one in titanium but sold it, I have regreted it every day, but found another in steel. I wear it every day, it's heavy and built like a tank but it's a keeper.

I absolutely love this piece, especially for the price you paid. I have a varied collection but prefer larger watches, owning a DSSD and two Panerai's (44 and a 45mm). I would love a white dial AP 15710ST but new they're over $21k and now selling for $25k from online dealers. For that price there's a lot of other pieces to choose from. Congrats on the pickup!!

The problem with the white dial version (A010) is that the white strap gets dirty and stains fast. I am contemplating on changing it to the dark blue strap that came with the watch. Otherwise, it’s a really beautiful watch. The see though caseback is also very nice as it showcases the beautifully finished Caliber 3120.

@@Cutekid69 ..haha.. I did the reverse ... i had mine from AP Boutique in Las Vegas. I had them change it to the dark blue dial immediately. After 2 years of hard wearing, i was itching for a change. Got the Strap change out for free in Ap boutique in singapore to my original white strap. It's a totally new look and experince.. a hell lot louder..

Yes... compare to the blue dial... the whote strap collect dirt by the minutes...need more cleaning and care..

@@richardyeoh812 did you see the new divers? New movement, new quick release straps. But. They changed the hour markers on the dial to blocky fat rectangles instead of the more classic double hash and thin elegant lines on the older Divers.

I'm not a huge fan of the Genta design watches but in this configuration I could see myself wearing one. Since you seem to be in need of a beater watch I'd say this one is a keeper. Wear it in good health Eric.

Have the clear case back version but switched the strap to the tapered AP rubber strap with the 20mm buckle. BEST decision ever. The 24mm buckle that came with it felt too big and dug into my wrist. The 20mm buckle has no issue and feels much more comfortable and aesthetically looks better.

I knew those AP divers, I find them very atractive. Specially that black dial, black rubber one. As Leonardo DaVinci usted to say, sometimes the most simple gives the most satisfaction. I personally wouldn´t change anything in the design of that watch, except of some functional aspects that you mentioned. Congratulations on another excelent video Eric!

I remember your previous video about it and I looked at it and AP before getting a Rolex GMT-Master II. I initially was introduced to the AP Royal Oak Offshore with your 'Watch Your Style' videos with CRM. I liked the 44mm ROO as they had oblong ceramic chrono pushers and bezel. I liked the fluorescent coloured ones, which were Boutique-only and were released over two successive Baselworlds: 2015 and 2016 with the Chrono-Diver. They look higher quality and more distinctive than a Submariner, in the same way it looks more higher end than a Tudor Pelagos. The 42mm Royal Oak Offshore only had steel bezels, like your first AP from your recent video: the 'Safari.' They have mega-tapiesserie/ 'waffle' dials. It just looks more exclusive than a Submariner, which everyone has. The dial is very legible which I look for in a watch. Watches of Switzerland is an Authorised Dealer, whereas they weren't when I looked back in 2017 and it was Rox Diamonds in Glasgow, Scotland, who I called and they had to be ordered as there weren't any made yet, this was the 44mm Titanium or Ceramic case models, with delivery in April. They were £16.5K or nearly £17K a brand new AP RO Offshore 42mm diver in Watches of Switzerland in Autumn 2019. Eric - your video nailed it for me and I went ahead and grabbed a 15703ST diver for myself for a daily beater. The 26400RO & 26470OR’s are great, but I am always concerned to just wear them daily, so this diver fits the Bill perfectly! And agree on the fact that the multi colored and material variants just don’t do it for me like the simple black does! Great review and thanks for everything you do!

I have the same watch with the sapphire back... wear it in the pool, shower, every day... the rubber strap is very comfortable, and it's a unique look... would take it over any Rolex any day

I like the offset crown. I also like the helium escape crown on the Omega Seamaster 300M. I’m probably the only person on earth that hopes that Omega keeps it in future models. It’s a super sporty look that gives the watches more character.

And the prices started going up after Eric released this vide 5 months back. Good luck trying to find a full set at USD20k. Thought it was undervalued because it’s basically AP’s answer to Patek’s Aquanaut. Basic, steel , rub er strap. Albeit biggerr and it’s actually a real diver watch. I did replace the rubber strap with the more tapered 20mm buckle version from the offshore chronos and it looked and felt way better on the wrist.

Keep it on rubber and it's a daily beater, switch it to a brown or black hornback and it's a dress piece, put it on a grey alcantara and you get a sporty driver's watch.

It’s a beautiful watch. I have the white on white strap version and the white strap gets dirty so fast. Luckily it comes with an additional dark blue strap so I may change it up to the Dark Blue soon.

Eric awesome watch, I would take it over an PP aquanaut any day, it is a real sports watch @ a real price. The tang buckle is big because it is a diver not a prissy watch, let it be. I could of bought the red boutique edition many years ago for peanuts but who knew? Enjoy it, the AP diver is one of few models that are still affordable and that you won’t be afraid to walk through a door without nicking it. Best, Jeff Long Island N.Y.

Hi Eric, I have to disagree with you on a glass case back. I have Omega PO 600M with glass case back which is designed for saturated dives and to go down to 600 meters where the pressure is ridiculous and none of us will ever go there. Not to mention every watch has a front glass which is weaker than the case back glass because of bigger area. So I'm thinking glass case back on any diver watch is totally fine. ;)

I absolutely love chronograph divers if you have the wrist size to pull it off why not? Most brands carry at least one version besides Rolex and Patek but Letd face it few people would even wash their hands with one on let alone dive in it plus digital is the way to go underwater now if I had to choose a mechanical it would have to be a spring drive paired with the best Lume in the business although I don’t hesitate to swim in my daytona from time to time it probably wouldn’t be that hard to make it a 200m watch I don’t really care for AP much but if I do get one it will definitely be this or the 42mm chronograph Version kind of disappointing paying all That money and getting a 3 hertz movement but I understand why they did it . this just a Screams tool watch which appeals to me and I love that dial !
