Just got this delivered and VERY excited to start using it. Check out the OMIO website if you are looking for a better version of the more typical Chinese 6040/3040 style CNC machines that are available.

Tip: Start with some cheap end mills if you are new to CNC. I snapped one on literally my first cut, I'm glad they only cost £1 each!

Congrats on your new machine!!. I got the same one with a water cooled spindle few moths ago. I didn't even bothered to try the Mach3 version they provided. I'm building a new controller with LinuxCNC and a 7i96 mesa card. Also upgraded the stepper motors to closed loop steppers (hbs57 drivers + 2.2nm motors). I did cut some aluminum with before the upgrade and I was a little impressed. Cheers from Los Angeles, CA!!!

Thanks David, I would love to pick your brain as to why you decided to upgrade these specific parts and what improvements will they make to your operations? I would like to upgrade the controller and use a proper version of mach3/4 but i really have no clue how to wire and set it up so for now I have to stick with what i've got.

@@ThisDesignedThat Well, I got the water cooled spindle mostly because is more quiet than the air cooled. I haven't heard good thing about Mach3 being reliable. But a lot of people use it and they are happy with it. I heard better thing about Mach4. In my case for the purpose of my machine it doesn't make sense to pay $175.00+ for a Mach3/4 license. I decided to go with LinuxCNC because it's open source super stable and flexible. The down side of Linux CNC is that the learning curve is pretty high and if you are not familiar with Linux it might be harder to learn. I upgraded the drivers and the stepper motors to make sure I don't loose steps and to run the machine's rapids faster. I also rewired the whole router with shielded cable to eliminate erratic behavior due to electrical noise generated by other electronic devices and components in the enclosure. I'll do a video at some point showing what I'm currently doing with my machine. I could help with wiring and any upgrades you are planning to do. I'm not an expert but I know 1 or 2 things hehe!. We all can learn together! Also take a look at the UCCN software it's the Mach3/4 competition and a lot of people like it better that Mach3/4. It's cheaper than Mach3/4 and the controllers can be used with Mach3/4 as well. www.cnc4pc.com/uccnc-control-software.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw5_DsBRBPEiwAIEDRWzL35BUhK7hzs4FXpO6ApDr-n1CJ23nxK021HWqkfvuTQETwWKYeSBoCFH8QAvD_BwE Keep in touch my friend.

on the generic 6040 and 3040 , the problem is not the round linear rail , its the fact they use the unsupported round linear rail ( so the rods are free to flex ) The supported round linear rails are super rigid and adjustbale at the bearing.. nice machine btw , nevr seen that before.

With the CE you have to look very exactly at it. A lot of machines from china have a CE on it, but on most of it its not the real CE certificate sign, its just a sign thats looks very similar and stands for China Export.

Electronics is not my strong point, I'd love to build a new CNC control box with Meanwell PSU and a UC400 board but I have no idea what I'm doing. I pretty sure the CE on this machine means China Export come to think of it haha

Looks legit man! Congratz. I own a 6040 that i am currently rebuilding with some linear rails. Just wanted to say that I Think that your 3040 is right in the sweet spot when it comes to bang for the buck for a first cnc router. I also do Think that the smaller work area makes the 3040 frame a bit Less unrigid than the 6040. Adding a solid aluminium sheet instead of the table Will Most likely increase the performance alot. I did also build a simple Enclosure. Have a video on my Chanel, than you are Wellcome to Check out. :)

@@ThisDesignedThat I get you! Sorry for the bad English in my comment. Have a New phone that doesnt seem to like writing at Another language. Anyway, regarding an Enclosure, I dont know have much experience you got. But I had none experience, i was very suprized at how nasty the steel chips are. They are super tiney and will easily penetrate and get stuck Through the skin even through gloves. You might know that but since I didnt i tought I would let you know. They Will be a bit here and There around the router. So I wouldnt recomend to cut steel without an enclosure, even Though I am shure your router Will handle it just fine. Good lock with the router I Will check out your future videos. :)

Hello. Great info and thank you. I am just wondering whether u might be able to recommend something for wood and rubber stamp carving. I make stamps for prints using Lino and wood. I usually engrave to a depth of 0.5-1.5 inches. Do u think this machine or the more generic Chinese models fits the bill? My purpose is very limited and I am thinking a less expensive model might work.

Hi! I also have the Omiocnc (the x6). It’s frankly amazing. I can recommend the 2.2kW water cooled spindle - they are amazing value for money and it SHREDS aluminium - you can also run ER20 collets. I’ve managed to tram mine to within a couple of thou and it delivers frankly amazing surface finishes for the money. If you want to see some of the parts I’ve made on it, just drop me a line.

i would love the er20 collet size, how thick are your Z alu panel on the x6? Im wondering if they are the same as the x4. I might think about upgrading the spindle and electronics of my x4 because i feel it is underpowered
@DcChoc
@DcChoc 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThisDesignedThat If anything, the X4 should be stiffer than the X6. I have the email address for the engineer at Omio that knows the product inside out - I’m sure he’d be able to advise on any specifics with respect to design, electronics and upgrades. The 2.2kW spindle is really cheap - it’s become a commodity part - you can buy it in Europe for under £150.

Definitely get the 1500W. 800W will cut but I can tell (especially when cutting metal) it needs more power and would speed up the jobs a lot having 1.5 or 2.2kw spindle

The feature that makes the omiocnc so good, compared to the generic 6040 routers, is the extra rigidity given by heavier gauge construction and linear rails. This combined with the 2.2kW spindle gives it standout performance for the money. Putting a 2.2kW spindle on a “flexi” generic router will be good for ripping through thin flat plates but less use where surface finish (especially on the side) and precision are important…

I could not even do that I got a white page, but now I can see all the didles and nobes and knobs and ( what ever they are called. Please forgive me and my bad english :) ) But Stil I have trouble to make anything move. Before when I installed the mach3 there was something wrong with installing the parallel port driver from mach3, but now it went and there seems to be no problems, so why I still can not get it to work. Do I have to do anything to the control board? so that it knows that it has to give the control away to the computer? I really am very Grateful for any kind of help. Thank you

1600 is cheap? All relative I guess but for its size the price is too much for new even with the linear rails. As I said I am surprised to see linear rails on one of these but there is absolutely no reason they aren't being used (even the small machines could use MGN12c rails and blocks). I guess it is due to penny pinching by the Chinese.

@ThisDesignedThat
@ThisDesignedThat 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing under $1k is going to cut aluminum very well without significant mods. 400W could cut in very small passes but its not ideal. For engraving it might work but definitely not full on machining aluminium into parts etc. My machine can cut aluminium ok BUT you will need air compressor and workholding such as a vice to help you cut properly and get good finishes. It can easily take the total cost up to $2k once you add it all up.
