Unjokingly yes, I'm switching systems. Canon produces fantastic bodies but their shutdown on third-party lenses has made me quit on them. I don't want to spend 5 THOUSAND AUD on a 50 1.2 when Sony will give it to me for 2700.

@@nachosjustice8928 I sold my Canon R5 and bought Sony A7RV. I am really pleased with Sony! There is some problems for example Canon has better back button focus options. But Sonys lens collection is 👌 Sigma 85mm f1.4😍 and Tamron small but sharp zooms 17-28 f2.8 and 28-75 f2.8 are so good!

Now that the ProRes RAW recording option is back, the camera will be getting more respect (Which it so richly deserves), from the Hollywood production industry once again. I would like to see H.265 added to the Ronan 4D soon as well. I would like to also see more reviews of the 8K resolution version of this camera as well.

This camera system is very justified for oneman or small crews. The only nitpick about it, that when you are a beginner and would use a simple and allin system like this, you probably wont be able to buy it. Then later, when you could, you will have a bigger team with you, and you will probably go with more high-end gear. Btw the video is super informative, the intro and the sound design really bought me!

@@initialfocus thank you for creating great content! Btw hopefully this camera is just a first member of the future, and DJI will make similar cameras like this but for different price ranges. For a beginner a camera like this even with less features would be a very great way to start.

6K is not expensive in the realm of actual Cine cameras. Hell the remote head for a Sony Venice is $11,000, for this whole set up including the remote head with lens you are talking around 10K

Hmmm. There's something about the image that looks "hollow"? I think as an operator this cam holds a lot of features and promise, and can totally see the benefits. Its just, the image is on the sterile side imo. For the price I think I would have a little buyer's remorse on that front every time I pull in footage into my editing software. Despite being more difficult to shoot with I think I prefer the "thicker" image of BMD at the end of the day. But of course, it's all subjective, right? Anyway, cheers, enjoy your new cam, and congrats.

I also am a Blackmagic "shooter" and i have been eyeballing this DJI chicken as an additional camera since it launched. On a side note have you looked at the Tilta float system for your gimbal? I am toying with the idea of getting one after i get a gimbal. but if i go for the Chicken it kind of makes those things less critical for my tool kit.

Glad you’re liking the 4D, I’ve also adopted it as my primary coming from the 6K Pro. Do your IRIX lenses balance on the 4D with the full gimbal/z axis enabled?

Yeah? That’s awesome to hear! And they technically fit. I’m trying a few things to get it to balance properly. They won’t right out of the box I’ll say that much.

@@initialfocusAh I thought that might be the case, I’ve been considering them so I thought I would ask. That would be one of my few requests for a 4D gen 2 - to bring out a version that can hold a 2kg payload. Having said that, the flex does open up options for larger lenses for shoulder rig/handheld use.

Hey man im wondering, do you still use the Digital Photo Thanos SE? Im about to buy it for my 6k pro, Rs3 Pro and Sigma 18-35. I found it through your recommendations and i would like to know if it still performs fine? A few people say that it wears off pretty quickly and that it doesn’t maintain safe (the knobs). Is it one of the reasons you switched to the Ronin 4D? Do you still like to use it and is it still worth it? Thank you for your time!

don´t pay attention to the zooming sound.. its pretty easy to hide it out with sound mixing or simply cut it out when working

Hey @michael tobin. What do you reckon these days? I'm considering treating myself (and my business) to either this or a bmcc 6k FF with a rs4 pro with the pro focus kit. I adapt FD and M645 lenses to my current rs2/bmpcc4k set-up and shoot a wide range of stuff from fiction to music vids to corporate. I do love BRAW to be fair...

This camera is the best. I recommend getting rokinon/samyang v-af lenses 24mm 35mm and 75mm at T1.9. Also if you don't have follow focus motor add on you should get it. Calibrating manual lenses to auto focus and let alone just having ability to pull focus with handle on manual or af lenses is ridiculous.

the one thing i learn from buying a combo washer dryer machine is that when one of the feature broke. the whole thing still took the same space. but then I have to buy another washer or dryer machine that gonna take more space. yes, I'm rambling

Interesting video. There are a few other videos out there from users who have had this camera for over a year and they talk about the unfilled promises that DJI still needs to complete regarding the Ronin 4D. It's expensive as it sits right now. Looking forward to your journey with it.

Yup I’ve been keeping an eye on those videos as well. For me the biggest thing I’d like to see is the XLR expansion plate.

There was a comment about the 17-28mm lens in your videos that makes me feel you guys were alluding to the visual quality of it being better than the non zoom DL lens. i.e. 17-28 is better than DL 24. Is this an accurate statement?

@StreetRodJim I never really used the other DJI lenses as they were first made for the inspire drones but according to Josh yes the 17-28 is much sharper and higher quality glass and it felt that way to me

I have the camera and also I have the Sony Fx3 as well. I agree 100% with its the best. Ronin 4d is the A Cam and the Sony Fx3 is the B Cam. Also I wish to add that I have the Tilta handheld Stabilisation because its a little bit heavy.

This one is specific to the 4D. The other DJI LiDAR RS for the RS3 Pro can be programmed to work off gimbal

Just tried this the other day. If you want it in gimbal mode just turn on FPV and you can roll it sideways. My latest TikTok was filmed this way. On a tripod you can lock the camera sideways as well.

I feel like 80% of what was covered was some accurate improvements in camera tech and 20% was the Kool Aid you drank..... LOL. And no camera fits all scenarios. I do a lot of gimbal and slider work mixed in with controlled interviews and 'on my own' as well so I hear ya. But it's almost triple the price of the 6K Pro with no BRAW and no XLR. It would be a worthy toy to have where the 6K Pro was locked down for interview shots and controlled lighting and sound and then pick up the 4D for all the BRoll I have to grab on any given job. I wouldn't say no. I would have to really play with one and see if 10+lbs is something I can get all my broll with and ditch the slider. Thanks for sharing!

Oh there was definitely some kool aid drunk haha. I want to be clear I was not paid at all or told to say anything. This camera truly has made me excited to create again and fits in most scenarios I work in. I couldn’t contain my excitement for my first impressions but I’ll definitely be sharing some short comings or things I want to see improved like for the XLR module to be released and for ProRes RAW to be added into resolve. Add the gimbal and lidar, drive motor, etc to the BMPCC and the price difference drops. Oh don't forget the piss poor batteries that the BMPCC uses and how long they last so add a V mount and the Anton Bauer batteries and the difference drops more. Also add on a nice Ninja 4K recording monitor so that you don't have to look at the back of the BMPCC with the non moveable display (tilting does not count as moveable) and the price difference drops more. @@silbay I suppose that is true. It depends how you kit out the bmpcc. I have the 6k pro with an rs 3 pro. One vmount to power both and it lasts me most of the day. I don't kit it out crazily like most KZfaqrs try to do but I don't need a crazy rig to get the good shots I need. Love working with BRAW though...

I feel like only KZfaqrs are promoting this cam but no one else takes it serious.....these videos feel more like marketing than reviews. There is something skeptical about this camera.

I don’t disagree with your first sentence actually. I think because it’s a very unique camera but also still quite expensive for the every day freelancer so people are hesitant to buy it. I have friends who are in the “regular” film industry and not content creators. I asked if they’ve used or seen this camera used on real sets. My one buddy who cam ops says he hasn’t seen it be used as an A cam just yet (ARRI and REDs are still the go to for that) but he has seen it be used a number of times for a bts camera. All I can say is this, my thoughts I expressed in this video are genuine as much as you can believe it. I have never once been paid by DJI and while they have sent me gear for free I’ve received plenty of gear from big companies that end of being shit so I don’t review it. I think they are smart to put this camera in the hands of creators because then people watching can see how it really handles in different scenarios. I appreciate your comment and the time you took to watch it 👍🏼

They got sued for prores raw lol.. FX6 way better at the price... and its bigger brother sony venice have removal sensor that can turn the camera into a backpack with the censor mounted on a gimbal with IMAX film quality... I'm sure this will be available on fx6 soon too..
