My new favorite piece of outdoor gear is a pee cloth! Specifically the Kula Cloth: a first-of-its-kind, anti-microbial, intentionally designed and artfully decorated legit technical pee cloth. In this video, I talk to the founder of Kula Cloth about how a scrap of fabric turned into a small business and an online community. Note: this video is not sponsored by Kula Cloth. I’m just a fan!

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention! As a Dad, this gave me a great opportunity to discuss this with my tween daughter. It goes a long way towards normalizing what are simply human issues. I was going to buy a knock off but after hearing from the founder, I'm fine supporting such a meaningful company and I'm glad REI is too. THANK YOU REI for addressing such real world issues! Your PNW is showing!

I love my Kula Cloth, especially in conjunction with my pStyle! Funny story: the first time I used them on a backpacking trip, my then-15yo son was along on the trip. I was SO EXCITED that all I had to do was to step away from the trail - not the usual "take off my pack, look for a big enough bush to hide behind" song and dance that I was squealing with joy and exclaiming "I'M WRITING MY NAME!" My teenaged son was SO embarrassed! :D

I love hearing this story! As both a long-distance trail runner and a backpacker, Kula Cloth is a TOTAL game-changer!! I own several and tell everyone about it on a regular basis. While going out for backpacking treks, I don't go without a Kula Clothes and a menstrual cup (even while not on my period) and I've found that it makes me feel 10000x cleaner!

So great hearing from the creator and hearing her story! I'm not a Kula user (I use a handkerchief I cut in half to dab dry after a quick splash of water), but I have sooooo much respect for her and how she's approached and maintains this company. Especially how she supports artists and causes. Definitely a respectable company.

After learning about Kula from a “Miranda” video I trekked right on over to REI and got one. Such a game changer (especially for my late night pee excursions)!! So I've been nervous about how hygienic these cloths actually are. I'm also a nerd, lol, so I looked into more of the science of the antimicrobial fabric they use and it's awesome! They use Silvadur(tm) which essentially uses silver ions to bind to the bacteria to keep it from functioning! So this really is a hygienic option. Looking forward to trying one of these out!! Thanks for making a video about this!

🤯 my mind is blown. I use pee cloths at home (I have a bidet and use them to dry off afterwards) but I'd never thought of taking one camping! My first reaction af the mention of taking pee cloths hiking was kinda "ick, what about bacteria?" (As at home mine are laundered between uses). But the antimicrobial fabric is a game changer! I also bought the knock off from amazon before this out of genuine curiosity. They are not as cute and they are not as absorbent. Like a noticeable difference in dryness/comfort. Buy a Kula, the extra money to feel more dry AND have so many cute print options and support the original maker is worth every penny. I can’t believe I love this product as much as I do haha. Ohhh and SUPER easy to handwash with dr bronners. This was a game changer for me.

I've been using a pee cloth for awhile on bike packing and agree that I feel much cleaner. During, the pandemic toilet paper shortage I started doing it at home too because it does make me feel cleaner and it's easier, just use a wash cloth, throw in the wash as needed and get a new one out. Just hang it in a special place so it doesn't get mixed up and I rinse it out between uses. Definitely like the Kula cloth concept, might buy a couple for home and for travel. How long do the antimicrobial properties work?

Just saw this video. My household has been using Family Cloth in place of TP for years, so this was already a no-brainer. I don't have a legit Kula Cloth, but I've been using my family clothes for years when hiking or traveling as many public toilets don't have TP and the sanitary standard of public toilet and its paper is pretty disgusting. Glad to see a small business was developed with this in mind.

That was my first thought too, but I think it's taking from the original idea of a pee cloth that you hang on the outside of your pack to sanitize in the sun. Since urine is technically sterile, I think the sun probably does a pretty good job of keeping it unsmelly. That and you're supposed to wash every few days. I don't personally have one, but have been looking into getting one!
