LaRue Pine Hill Research Natural Area is located in the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. This ecologically and geologically rich area is home to Snake Road, which is the only road in the United States close two times a year for the snake migration from the Limestone bluffs to the Illinois Swamps of the the former Mississippi River.
Inspiration Point is a 265 foot limestone outcrop that looks over the Big Muddy Levee and the Mississippi River Floodplain located near Grand Tower and Tower Rock. Just south of Little Grand Canyon and west of the Trail of Tears State Forest.
