I still remember the Wheeler Dealers episode where they bought a Boxter for a grand, because the auto gearbox was slipping in gear. Owner thought it may need a new box costing thousands, all it needed was a gearbox oil change! They fixed and updated and cleaned the car for less then a grand if I remember and sold it for a massive profit.

The 2.7 makes a good buy in terms of value proposition and performance that is not far off from the benchmark S variant, the reliability and relatively low running cost will leave more money in your wallet. Having driven base model Cayman 981 back to back there is very little difference mainly driving within legal or illegal limits. Nice car Matt, seriously love that classic 986 Boxster!

Midnight Blue and Graphite interior is a very nice combo, and all the special painted bits make it just perfect. Can’t believe you got such a screaming deal. In the US it’s hard to find a reasonable condition Boxster for nearly twice that cost.

Nice find, I done the same and got the 2.7 987 on a blind buy, fantastic driving experiences, and as you said the induction noise is crazy. I just don't think there is a better car with the roof down on a lovely day

Great video Mat! Pity you missed out on the Cayenne, but welcome to the Boxster 986 club - lovely mint car at a great price! A few pointers: From your 996 you will know about the IMS bearing, so always warm it up and make sure the tempreture is above 80deg before doing launches or the like! Re the long throw on the gearshift: change for a 996 Turbo shifter, or a third party short shifter - cost about £100, same amount of cost to fit at a garage, or even a possible DIY job. Air con could be condensor, or rusty radiator (clean out the front bumper every 3-6months, it collects leaves and hence the radiators rot), or most often crushed pipes which run along the driver side, and if you do not know what you are doing/where to place the jack are easily damaged - Good Luck!

I used to have exactly that Boxster model (from new, same year!). I loved it. Mine had the plastic rear window which was a pain because it would get a kink in it when you lowered the roof and you had to knock that out with your hand. Otherwise it was perfect. Went all over Europe in it. Enjoy it!

I had a 958 cayenne turbo, great car, would definitely recommend the 2nd gen cars. Bulletproof engine (other than the early ones which had a recall fix on the engine)

i have one of these, the gts non turbo design edition. it's a beautiful car (imo best looking cayenne), drives well, sits on air suspensions, and sounds great.

This is Lovely! I have a 986 Boxter S and it's absolutely amazing I love it. It came with sports cats and a Miltek exhaust and sounds unreal. 100% look at an exhaust for it

Would it not make more sense to do the Carly scan after you do the test drive?

Drive the car, set the suspension in its highest position, shut it off in that position and measure the distance between the top of the tire to the bottom of the wheel well. Then, after 1 hour measure and see if there’s any difference. If the distance is identical, air suspension is in great condition and has no leaks. If it’s different, well, best of luck to you…

So you lost out on a 5-7 grand Cayenne because you knew it just needed more oil and could have googled whether it would have caused a bigger problem to throw 6 grand at a car you didn't even go and see? That's some logic right there 😀

I've had a UK Cayenne Turbo for years. My wife even insisted taking it with us when we moved to Germany. You forgot to mention the biggest weak point with the early cars; the coolant pipes. They get brittle and crack. Before I bought mine I checked and they had been replaced with aluminium pipes. We did have the prop shaft refurbished at a specialized shop in Munich. Eventually sold it for a lot less than the one you looked at😢

Bore scoring a Porsche trait, you would think Porsche could sort this problem out once and for all. And the proper way to check engine oil is after a run and the engine oil is warm, cause oil expands when hot. That boxster was a bleeding bargain.

Bought my 2016 Cayenne GTS sight unseen from one of those online shops that just ships you the car like Amazon. It had zero issues. We've driven it another 15,000 miles since then and it's had zero issues. [If you can look at a car first, def. look at the car first. This was dumb luck] It's also a delight. She does everything very well.
