"Vanda and Young" were music producers who ran "Albert Studio" in the 1970s in Australia and pioneered a lot of great Aussie rock musicians. Vanda and Young themselves created Probably Australia's first great band in the 1960s called the "Easybeats', whose main hit song was "Friday on my mind". George Young, (Angus and Malcolm older bro) and Harry Vanda were in this band. So much good music back in those days. Stevie Wright who used to be the frontman for the Easybeats went on to have a solo career in the 1970's, his songs were written and produced by Vanda and Young. The music was underrated internationally but Aussies loved them. Songs like, "The black eyed bruiser", a Stevie Wright song. Musos like John Paul Young and other bands such as "The Angels", etc etc..and of course AC DC, in their Bonn Scott days. Great memories.

Coz the 'Mericans and British wouldn't let us play with them we had to develop our own rock sound over here in Oz, and it was born in pubs on Friday and Saturday nights by bands like Rose Tattoo, ACDC, The Angels etc. What evolved was real connection between the band and their punters completely without fear of record sales and international markets...the artists made exactly what they wanted to play and exactly what the kids wanted to hear. Pure classic aussie rock is some of the cleanest, most original music to grace this planet, and it's really only other rock bands overseas that appreciate how honest and earthy it really is, hence why they cover it and release it as their own...GNR's Nice Boys being a perfect example.

The Angels , known as Angel City in Nth America and Europe, toured there but unfortunetly didn't make a big dent, Rose Tattoo were more fortunate.

Angry Anderson (A.K.A. Gary Anderson) still to this day still gets around everywhere. He had a somewhat violent, take no crap background in his youth. One concert a heckler was giving him grief in the crowd so he jumped down, waded through the audience and knocked the guy out cold then returned and jumped back up onto the stage and continued his song as if nothing happened. If you have seen the old movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, you will spot him next to Tina Turner. He is also a well loved guest favorite from both Aussie comedy series Houso's and Fat Pizza. Both made by the same Aussie comedian Pauly Fennech.

If you're bored one day go and watch 'Blood + Thunder The Sound of Alberts' documentary and be prepared to be blown away by how much amazing music came out of Australia in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Great song/great reaction :) This is the real Rose Tattoo sound as produced by Vanda & Young (AC/DC's producers). Personally I'm not a big fan of the re-recordings, like the one of 'Nice Boys don't play rock 'n' roll' that you reacted to. It sounds way too clean, IMHO. Vanda & Young were masters in capturing a 'live and dirty' feel in the studio. I love it how you can hear the amps buzzing on AC/DC's 'Let There Be Rock' album, for example. Another Vanda & Young produced band you may want to check out are The Angels (or Angel City outside Australia).

Best oz band to never crack international. Somehow Axl Rose found out about them though, and he always name drops them as being one of his favourite bands, which is why G n' R did "Nice Boys Don't Play Rock n Roll".

you could even go back to Kevin Borich Express. and songs like "Goin Downtown" and "Goin' Somewhere" for some more aussie slide rock. from back then :)

Angry is a legend, I grew up with his music as a young hooligan in Sydney's western suburbs hahha. WE still se ehim in TV shows such as Houso's which is good for a laugh where he plays a biker boss.

Thats Angry Anderson singing mate he is a legend here downunder I was lucky enough to see Rose Tattoo a few times they used to play around the pubs in Sydney in the early 80's when I was growing up. Also, Angry is in Houso's which a popular TV show here where he plays a biker club leader, he's done a lot in his life.

Guns’n’Roses were Rose Tattoo fans and had them open on one of their Australian tours. They also covered a Rose Tattoo song called ‘Nice Boys’.

Rose Tattoo one of the ORIGINALS. Been around just as long as ACDC. stayed true to they’re Aussie herratige. Oh yeah. Angry guest roles in a Aussie sit com so to say “HOUSOS” . Its worth a watch and laugh at aussie humour

I have met 3 members of the band - originally in the very early 80's these guys were hard men - some had criminal issues, no-one would sign the band but some guys from AC/DC said to Ted Albert you should check them out and sign em.,.....................................

Angry (all 5 feet 3 inches of him) is the only member of this lineup still alive. They lived as hard as they played. The slide guitar kicks arse. Classic amphetamine and hard liquor-fueled Australian rock.

Yep Tatts kicked arse with the first album, and somewhat still with the following ones. But their best song, Snow Queen, was to be on the second album (was to be called Scarred For LIfe) but the record co. refused to do it, 'cos of it's lewdness ; ). That song fully encapsulates the sweaty, sleazy pub/street ethos of this awesome band .

Since ur a fan of AC/DC too u should know that Bon Scott saw Rose Tattoo play in 1976, was mighty impressed, befriended them and got AC/DCs Aussie record company Albert's to sign them up, produce and release their records Inc that song which is on their first album released in 1978( in Australia and one of the greatest hard rock - HM albums of all time). 3rd album from 1982, Scarred for Life is almost as good.

Worked with a bloke who used to get head from the daughter of the lead guitarist from Rose Tattoo. She reckoned it tasted like Milo... apparently. He was killed in a m/cycle accident. Onya Daz.
