As a fellow workshop builder, you did a great job! My compliments. And you know, all the advise and well ment tips, its youre workshop so you need your realm and your workflow to be at your best, so, follow youre feeling. And offcourse steal all the good idears from youtubers. I did, works great! The getting organised.......kept me awake, but almost done know. What a work. And then, as we woodworkers do, we make everything perfect and when people come to watch, we point out all our mistakes.

Thanks for the update Terry, and what a fabulous workspace you have now, it was really worth all the effort you made to insulate and line it ! Looking forward to more content now you're more settled in, hoping your previous injuries are now a distant memory too !

Good to see another UK garage workshop conversion. Gives me some more ideas. You won't regret getting a tracksaw. I bought a Festool tracksaw and vacuum and they work great. No more mess and relatively quiet. A lot easier to cut boards/sheet goods in a small space than manhandling through a tablesaw. For extra features you could have a look at an MFT table. Peter Parfitt has some good videos on the subject on his 'new brit workshop' channel.

So true, I didn’t really think about that, but that is such a good point you make, it would’ve been horrible having that old bulky door hanging from the ceiling now the workshop is all finished

Fantastic project. Having done a DIY install of a similar heavy duty 'single' garage door, I can attest to the weight. But mine was installed by attaching the tracks to the head unit and standing up against the opening. Removal of the old garage door and completed install (all sealed in) was around 3 hoursHad mine been a double I would have gladly paid for installation. Enjoyed seeing the worksjhop coming together.

@@Terrythemaker I'm glad you enjoyed those videos - at the time there was very little on YT covering that sort of work and what there was didn't really answer any of the questions I had and hence the detail I covered in the video. You might be interested to know that I messed up the insulation of the roof-space and that video was really poor advice for anyone trying to tackle something similar. It's been 5 years this month since I insulated the space and boarded it - but it's taken all 5 years to progressively re-do the insulation. Finished this weekend.

@@StrawbyteWorkshop oh wow 😮 I must admit I didn’t insulate my roof, I probably will have to at a later date, i was advised not to bother by an architect. He said allow some air flow. Who’s right who’s wrong?😂
@StrawbyteWorkshop
@StrawbyteWorkshop 22 күн бұрын
@@Terrythemakerhe’s not wrong airflow is critical and that was the thing I didn’t get right. Plus, in hindsight I should have put a ceiling in across all the trusses which would have allowed insulation above that and achieve a cold roof. The important thing for me is ensuring the space is easy to heat in the winter and cool in the summer. Have you thought about putting down a floor in the concrete?
@Terrythemaker
@Terrythemaker 22 күн бұрын
@StrawbyteWorkshop i’ve been giving a lot of thought about what to do with the floor. I was considering putting down this heavy duty rubber matting that locks in position, but the weight of my benches on wheels will just squash it. I’m not sure I can spend more money without getting into trouble with the wife, so I may have to give it a coat of heavy duty paint again for now. I will keep you updated with what I decide to do.👍🏼

Hi Terry, Wow! your new workshop looks amazing ,Like the new garage roller door, plenty of shelving bench tools are bolted down and most of all plenty of 13 amp sockets, you can never have to many sockets, are they wired in to two radial circuits or on a ring main. Can't wait to see what you do next. Great video, Take care

Thanks Shaun, yes I’m really pleased with it how it’s come out, I’m not sure about the he electrics I just left it to the electrician, I seem to think he said it’s a ring with 3 radials. But I told him what I wanted and left it to him. He’s a great electrician and been doing a long while.

@@300Exige i’m afraid I’m an Essex boy 😂 I am totally self taught and not in the industry at all. It’s all started as an hobby, mainly woodturning, but I am very fastidious with everything I do. I like things to be as near to perfect as possible. My dad and his brothers were all in the construction industry and I’ve just picked up tips from them over the years.

@@Terrythemaker Good for you you are self taught 👍🏻 I’m a few years behind (woodworking journey not age 😉) and trying to get some skills slowly. YT has been a great help. Being stuck at home during the start of Covid got me started making a few things. Sadly, I haven’t got a permanent workshop so all my big tools are on wheels, which is great in good weather but the last couple of weeks have been decidedly dodgy. I have a couple of outbuildings but none big enough to set out a permanent workshop. I can only dream of one like yours.

Great job. I got a single electric roller shutter garage door installed the other year & you're right, only took them 1/2 a day to install. Much better fit, no draughts, improved security & insulated. I am however very envious of your double garage. My single garage is just not big enough for what I need & I have no space to construct anything else on my property. Kicking myself that we didn't stretch a a double garage property 38 years ago but we just couldn't stretch the budget that far at the time. I seem to playing a never ending game of Tetris trying to fit everything into the ever reducing amount of space.

@@Terrythemaker Thanks I'll check him out. Mine's an attached single garage with a room over the top & the problem is with full length/ height racking on one side, benches down the other, 5 bikes, beer fridge, mower / garden tools, power / hand tools, fishing gear, solar inverter / batteries & overhead racking for timber & longer items, there's only just enough space to walk down the middle. I do have a lot of stuff in it & sadly no room for the classic car I would love to own. Even when it was empty when we first moved in I could only just get a small car in it but couldn't open a door wide enough to get out! I really don't know why house builders still bother including these undersized garages. Most people round my way have converted them into extra living space. Not an option for me as I don't have anywhere else to put all I've got in it now. Only option would be move 🏠. 🤔

Try rubber matting on the floor. Not only is it very very anti fatigue if you drop tools occasionally, it generally saves them from damage too.

@@davidtyers4903 that’s what I’m thinking David, what about the weight of my benches on wheels? Will they rip it up when I move them around
@davidtyers4903
@davidtyers4903 22 күн бұрын
It's not a cheap option. Go for 15-18mm thick matting. It's so dense your castors will not be an issue. I have it in my shop and it was a gamechanger. The matts are very heavy and just hold in place. It is 1000% better than paint and much more cost effective. Mine has been down for 4 years and is as good as new. I have several heavy tools on wheels and they don't cause any damage at all.
