It is time for the next project, and this one is going to be another beautiful guitar kit from Precision Guitar Kits. This time we are going a completely different route with a really cool custom opaque paint job that I have planned. I hope you guys will enjoy this build, I'm really looking forward to it.

Can’t wait to see this project finished. I have a kit that’s been sitting for 5 years now. So I might have you beat on sitting around. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I've been looking at an archtop kit that's just neck and body. Same reasoning, I'm going to put what I want in it, so... Looking forward to what you do with this one Brad.

Totally looking forward to this! Just wanted to note for anyone looking at these that I recently ordered a Precision kit based on your last series and it's great quality except the bridge had some decent tearout. Not sure if it's me but when I reached out the owner became extremely unpleasant to deal with. Not a big deal, because it's going to be an awesome Explorer when it's done!

I’m sorry to hear that they weren’t good to deal with. They were good to me, but that’s not really a surprise since they knew I was going to build it on the channel.

You can't go wrong with PGK. Their millwork and fret work is second to none. And worth the extra money. And the quality of their woods is also top notch. I've done two of their SGs and they rival my best Gibsons.

In learning about fret leveling. It's best to do under tension.

I’ve looked into that theory. I disagree with it.

@@BradAngove , may I ask why? The idea is to set the guitar up as normal. Then work on each string track individually. This idea is to get the banana right from end to end. I've seen it in action and I like it. The lowest action I've ever seen. Hope to hear back.
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 4 ай бұрын
I probably should have been more clear; I think that method works just fine. I just don’t find it to be any better than leveling without strings. As long as the fretboard is set up flat when you level, there’s no issue. Then the string tension adds bow and the truss rod removes it. Doing it under tension kind of defeats the purpose of having that adjustability. As for individual string tracks, I adjust those at the nut and bridge. It takes a lot longer to do under tension and I haven’t seen a benefit.
@ranman58635
@ranman58635 4 ай бұрын
@@BradAngove , ok , good points. Now I remember the main reason for doing that. Sometimes the neck is a bit different under tension than when adjusted without. Bumps and valleys on older guitar's will show up only under tension and therefore would not be seen otherwise. I guess that's it. I always try to adjust the action but never seem to get it as low as I want even after a level. On a new guitar, this is still a possibility. Thansk for bearing with me Brad. Take care.
@BradAngove

@ranman58635 thank you for the information. It’s certainly worth considering the under tension method if you’re having trouble getting your action right the other way.

Brad, Attaching the neck to the body is seamless. There is no movement there. I was going to suggest that you use a construction laser light to center the middle of the body to the center of the nut on the neck, but that looks incredibly precisioned, no pun intended. Good for you man. Couldn't have asked for anything tighter.
@BradAngove

Yeah, I’ll have to be careful not to use too much glue. I’ll still check the alignment, but I’m not worried at all.

That kit is beautiful. I'm not doubting PGK's products, but are you not concerned with how well the neck joint is going to hold up under string tension? That pocket is milled out pretty thin.
@BradAngove

Not concerned at all. There’s plenty of contact area deeper in the pocket. I’ve built one of these already.
