I’m not pregnant nor planning to be anytime soon but I like to watch videos like this for educational purposes. I really admire and appreciate your positive spirit and being gentle with yourself during your pregnancy. I usually see far too many women ache and worry about something so minimal like skin transitioning. Truly refreshing to see this kind of spirit, and should be more celebrated ✨. I’ve watched Jen Im’s insightful journey during pregnancy and postpartum if I can recommend her I think you may just enjoy ✨ Also Congrats!! Wishing you the best pregnancy, I know we only see a fraction of a person through a screen but your personality and knowledge inevitably shine right through. You’re going to be the best mom 🧸✨

Thank you for making this video. I shared it with my daughter who is 27 weeks pregnant and is so super careful of what she uses on her skin. Great tips for her. Your skin is positively glowing. It's been years since I was pregnant, but I even knew 36 years ago with my oldest daughter to not use while pregnant or nursing. As soon as I was done, right back to Retin-A I went. The stuff works miracles! Would definitely like to see your morning pregnancy skin routine. Be well. ❤❤

Love this and yes to all the skincare routines 😊 I did also get more congestion during pregnancy and my skin turned back to normal instead of dry. I also got big ol white heads behind my upper arms and they were so ugly. Also I switched to mineral sunscreen for body and face and I hated all the body ones but I actually found the Murad mineral sunscreen is AMAZING!! I had a few deluxe samples of Bakuchiol from herbivore and biossance and I used them during pregnancy and loved them

Some with dry skin don’t think that the Laneige night balm is enough & doesn’t stay on all night. Personally what I use is The Naked Bee stick lip balm that is inexpensive & you can find at Ace Hardware stores, etc. even in Winter, it stays on & works all night. I’m 59 & love it.

My husband also complains after I put on my lip balm. I'm obsessed with the Noone Applebutter Lip Mask with natural AHA's. I've never had anything else hydrate my lips as well, and it will completely get rid of any dead skin. I had a dental appt first thing in the morning, once, and the hygienist asked me if I got lip injections because my lips were so smooth. I told her it was just from my lip balm and she immediately ordered, lol.

Yes! Would love to see your morning skin care! I also want to ask...I am also a big fan of using a retinol nightly, however, I just found out I am pregnant so will be stopping that immediately. I am also I mamma who wants to breastfeed for as long as I can, possible 2 years. I would like to know if you are going to be breastfeeding as well, and if so, will you continue to forgo the use of a retinoid throughout the entirely of breastfeeding? When, in your personal opinion, do you think its safe to reintroduce it. Even if its a slow transition back into using it... once a week...then twice a week,,, etc. Thanks! Love your videos :)

Hi Dr Sam an interesting tour of your pregnancy routine - you look great btw. I was surprised at not seeing a prescription azelaic acid, as I thought it would really help with the rosacea, congestion and hyperpigmentation - whilst still being safe to use in pregnancy. I'm long past the pregnancy stage of life and due to gynae issues it wasn't something I ever dealt with anyway. I'm menopausal and 3 years since my last period, so I don't really get hormonal fluctuations any more. I do take a low dose continuous HRT (a lot of research and consultation with my Doctor went into that decision), so my hormones are fairly stable with just an occasional hot flush now. I do have rosacea and eczema, so I use a 15% azelaic acid alternating nights with my retinoid. The combination of the two keeps my pores clear and really minimises texture and redness. I don't really use many AHA's as my skin isn't overly keen on them - a 5% mandelic acid toner once or twice a week in the morning seems to be enough for my skin, as I get enough cell turnover from the azelaic acid and retinoid tbh. I don't really suffer from hyperpigmentation (apart from a smattering of freckles I've had since I was a child), but my skin heals with red or purple marks after any breakouts etc. I tried a 2% tranexamic acid serum, but my skin found it a bit irritating as an ingredient so I stopped it (I now use it on my hands at night under a hand cream). I want to take the opportunity to wish you good health throughout your pregnancy and a healthy baby at the end. Best wishes.

Mine too! I had perfect skin even through my teens but after pregnancy and breastfeeding I have rosacea, acne and/or perioral dermatitis and haven’t been able to tackle the pustules with anything. Rosacea comes with such a caveat that you shouldn’t use many products that you use for acne so completely lost…

@@gertrudhi9230 omg we are the same. Lol. Never struggled with acne before either. Now it’s a constant struggle with my skin and so hard to find things that don’t sting or burn. And even harder to try to keep acne and rosacea flare ups under control cause most acne treatments are too harsh for my skin. It’s hard. I hope you find things that work for you and that you are able to control it soon! Sending good vibes your way!

NO OTHER VIDEO talked about bakuchiol, kojic acid, licorice root and tranexamic acid. A lot of websites tell us to avoid these ingredients, how did you come to your own conclusion to use these ingredients especially? I loved the fact that you did, thank you so much for that 💗 best for you!

Prachi Verma sure! I started put with what I would call “normal” skin with some tendency to hormonal breakouts. I had more breakouts while pregnant (especially in the first trimester), then I had stunning, gorgeous, clear skin immediately postpartum. The shocker for me was when my son was a fee weeks old I found myself with bone dry skin for the first time in my life. My moisture barrier was not healthy, which led to developing major irritation from products I’d used for years. That was what led me to learning more about skin and skincare here on social media, actually. I cut out all actives and focused on hydration and healing. It took a few weeks, but left me with my new skin (my son is now 21 months): dry-ish, somewhat sensitive, and again prone to hormonal acne. I have a good routine down now, and my skin seems as happy as it’s going to be right now. PS- I’ll be 39 in December.

I found an article from Allure that says it IS pregnancy safe, but Paula’s Choice says there’s not enough research and to consult with your physician. But obviously if you’re using it, you think it’s safe enough for other pregnant women to use? Just asking because there’s so much conflicting information!

I have used the farmacy cleansing balm but dislike it due to its strong fragrance from essential oils and use of waterbody polluting polyethylene

Hi, I was wondering what your opinion is on using gram, rice, coconut or oat flour for hyperpigmentation and melasma especially during pregnancy? I use it for brightening and although it can be very drying so I mix it with glycerin honey, rosewater and other hydrating ingredients in a mask and heavily moisturize after and leave it on only 5 minutes, it is extremely beneficial. I just thought I would share this in case women out there are looking for something that would be helpful and safe. Please ask your dermatologist of course, first, but I wanted to share this because I know that it can be very upsetting for a lot of people and frustrating and it has helped me more than any product marketed for targeting hyperpigmentation and as a bonus is very helpful for keeping skin clear and healing the skin barrier, and results have been instant for me and it is so gentle I can do this a couple days a week. But do a patch test first and only leave on a few minutes because it works so fast to brighten and can be very drying like I said. But it is loaded with nutrients and packed with great stuff. Please research all the goodies. You can build the mask around it with specific ingredients that you want to help target specific needs, but the flour is the main ingredient I like to mix it with along with real vitamin c capsules from acorola cherries about 5 I open and mix with a dash of glycerin, rosewater, a little water and sometimes I add a few drops of alpha arbutin. I hope it helps people out there who really struggle with hyperpigmentation and melasma and please remember to wear sunscreen even indoors exposed to harsh lighting. Yes harsh lighting can have a negative effect on skin. Hope my hubz doesn’t mind my commenting my girly stuff on his man account, lol. Totally kidding btw.

Hi Doctor Ellis! I emailed Naturium to ask about which of their products are safe to use during pregnancy (I'm not pregnant, but doing research for some near-future plans!-- Hopefully in a few months God-willing) and they listed their tranexamic products on the 'no' list, but elsewhere I've heard tranexamic is safe (including from you, who's opinion I trust ;) ). I've also had varying opinions on BHA being ok for short contact, but not leave-on (like a toner). This future mama is confused, lol. I recently invested in both the BHA Exfoliant and Tranexamic solution from Paula's Choice, so now I'm worried I won't be able to use them.

Do some investigating on your own to see if a video exists already before asking the doctor to provide content for you. 👎 Check out the description box for a link to a morning routine video.
