Thanks so much for this video, SungWon. Idk if it was easier for me to relate, because I’m also Asian-American, but this was just a really touching video for me Especially the part in the end, where your mother was talking about how she appreciates board games, because it’s a good excuse to bring the whole family to actively spend time together, as opposed to someone watching TV, and someone’s reading a book, another person’s on their phone, etc Board games have definitely given my family an excuse to all spend time together, instead of just sitting in the same room, but doing different things 💙

This was lovely. I feel like my dad and your dad would have gotten along! Nice to hear Just One, that was the last game I played with my dad before he passed. Good memories, thanks for bringing those up. ❤
@truenorth26157 ай бұрын
Wow! I'm impressed they knew 10 games each. My wife's grandmother is 100 years old but still sharp...she still drives and lives on her own etc... I have been contemplating bringing out a game for her to try when we go to visit but I like the heavy stuff and I don't have a good gauge on what older people might like so this list is helpful. I'll probably try Splendor. I was initially thinking about trying Cascadia. I think your parents might like that one as well.

I have a box of games just for my parents to try, because they have less rules but are complex in strategies. Snow time, social games, kings of Tokyo, ticket to ride, Machi Koro, stratego, sequence, boulderdash, and they LOVE wits and wagers.

I learned there IS a color-blind friendly version of Qwirkle! They put interior shapes on the tiles that represent what color it is. That's really cool! I may have to get that for my folks! I think they'd like it!

Oh man, this is so cool!! Most of my board game history is from playing with my parents all the time growing up! We were obsessed with Sorry! and Scrabble, I remember having to push hard to add Jumanji into the mix. 😆 I should ask them what their favorites are, I'm about to visit them soon and maybe we'll pull something out!
@lattedecoffee67817 ай бұрын
My parents and I played board games since before I can remember. When I was super little they kept the more complex ones to themselves and their friends but once I hit double digits or so I was able to join in the more complex ones (and I won more often than my mom lol, tho not as often as my dad). Board games are a great way to bond, particularly in my paternal family. When my uncle passed away a few years back, my parents and I received his copy of the game “Vikings,” which my parents had played with him but I’d never had the opportunity to. It remains one of our favorites to this day and playing it helps me to feel closer to him, and when I win I can pretend he’s helping me from beyond the grave lol. It’s also just a really fun board game, would recommend even if it doesn’t have immense sentimental value for you. Suffice to say this video felt super homey and nostalgic just seeing someone talking with their parents about board games they enjoy playing together

Having the issue that some friends have a better or worse vocabulary and knowledge, I can highly suggest to try out Codenames Pictures rather than the normal one. The pictures make it not only more fun due to the images and offering more options due to the details, but it also offers everyone a possibility to find a word for each and every card they got. E.g. we played Codenames in German and we had a lot of issues with different kinds of fishes, as we don't have a lot of fishes around where I grew up - so the people rarely ever learned those words. Playing with codename pictures we could even mix up langauages.
