Great kit. Good to see you recognize the need for spiritual strength and aren’t afraid to talk about it. I like the Suunto Clipper button compass. It goes for around $20 but has a rotating bezel. It’s the first addition I make to any new bag I buy. Along with that, a paper map that shows the direction highways and civilization should be in your kit. Second, I understand what you’re saying about drinking warm water but I still believe a stainless steel water bottle should be part of any survival kit. In addition to water collection & purification, you can also boil food in them. Finally, speaking from personal experience, that small bottle of bug spray doesn’t go very far. I had to use it once for my daughter, wife and I. There wasn’t much left for me after taking care of them. I still keep one in my kits but just so you know.

I would get a pocket knife. Great kit. I would also get some Tylenol for pain and headaches. I would definitely have a bigger flashlight it can also be used force search and rescue at night so they can see you at a distance. Wire ties, cards for fun and a fire starter if you need them.

Great idea! I like to hunt when I can and this would be an awesome thing to have! I'll have to make one. And the picture and Scriptures were a fantastic idea! I haven't heard any other survivalist mention that before. Also, just as a potential addition to your meds, you could add some benadryl tablets. In the event that you get stung or an allergic reaction to something, you can take the benadryl tabs to at least attempt to stop the reaction. You may be very sleepy but it can be enough to prolong survival. As a pharmacist, i was super happy to see the ibuprofen in there lol. Great video and just subscribed!!

Very good and well thought out pack. That should get you through a couple days if a worse case scenario finds you turned around and lost, or possibly injured and unable to walk out.

Hi Tim. Three years after your vid, now Feb 23. About knives. A K-Bar BK-2 can be used as a chopper, or a knife, or digging tool. With it you can build a bench covered by a tarp lean-to. Fire in front warms under bench and above. I got it to use in CAP and Search Dog SAR. Other two tools are a Victorinox SAK Trekker and a multi-tool both of which go into pistol magazine pouches. The molles allow belt or pack carry. Thanks for your vids. They are informative and thought provoking so each person can adapt to their own perceived needs. Was supposed to get SAR and SERE while in the Navy during VN. Didn't happen but got to be aircrew and SAR trained in CAP and also had a.SAR dog I'd trained. Funny, sometimes, how things go. Keep up the good work. May GBWY in all things.

After over 60 years of camping, hiking and being in Boy Scouts that has to be one of the best survival kits I have seen...Due to an accident a couple days ago looks like my days of camping are over with so I will just watch you and relive the days of camping and hiking. I wish I was just starting all over again as fresh kid who just earn his first merit badge .....great video. I hope the young people will learn from you The only thing I would do, is I would throw in a bag of M&M's old habits are hard to break Ha ha

I am so glad that someone other than me and my friends carries trail tape or flager tape. I carry flaggers tape from menards. I also carry it in 3 colors, pink, green, and orange. Each color means something different to my group of friends I go out in the woods with.

My cheap tarp literally disintegrated while covering a load for months on my van's luggage rack. It was carefully held down, and did not tear from wind, but simply was not durable. I advise at least using UV resistant materials with a more durable waterproofing system. For survival, one can't count on quickly returning to full civilization. Plan on extended time in a situation,using sustainable systems, then be glad if you get rescued early.

Great vid... Great ideas....As far as a headlamp....I use the Niteize head strap and that fits the Olight 13T or the MIT raider perfectly...And it lays flat and takes up no space, but now I can use my flashlight in my hand or run it threw the headstrap.... God Bless and keep up the good work

You could add a hydracell personal mini light be a good alternative emergency light. It is single use but has 100 hour run time and 25+ years shelf life. No stress over batteries.

Hi I have been hiking, fishing, hunting and enjoying the outdoors for years and lately I've been enamored with watching KZfaq videos about what people recommend we carry when we venture out. Many are quite comical. I just wanted to say I think yours is one of the best thought out kits I've seen. Very nicely packaged and presented too! Love the scriptures. Here it comes... a couple of suggestions: I like to carry a glow stick or two. As a firefighter/paramedic we have tested a ton of them. In my opinion the green ones are the best. Get the good quality ones and drop a few in your glove box too. As for water purification tabs, get the Katadyn Micropur ones. They kill more stuff. There are a bunch of videos out about them. As for the naysayers about medical stuff. You can improvise from most things in your kit or from your clothes. Like you said you can use duct tape for a lot of things. I think Gorilla tape sticks better. They make a one inch roll you can take some from. You can use your paracord to make slings, splints and tourniquets, they will need to be padded with some clothing, which can also be cut up for bandages. You can check out some compressed gauze if you want to add something medical. It is vacuum packed so it doesn't take up much space and you can use it as dry tinder, to prefilter dirty water, etc... I would put in a tea light or a couple of birthday candles in it wrapped in foil. Inside a ziplock bag with the BIC lighter and dump some of the redundancy in lights and exotac cover. That would cover both light and fire, and the exotac cover takes up too much room in these kits in my opinion.

Hello Tin.... Just a couple of comments.... IMO there should be some toilet paper in that kit... multi uses.... I also have an 8 oz. stainless steel collapsible drinking cup that can also be used to cook in or to gather berries etc.... Also have to ever heard of survival food tabs ? The bush pilots carry then in their planes....you might want to look into them...

Hi, I’m curious about the thinking behind small survival kits. I used to make them and carry them years ago as a teenager but as I lightened and reduced my camping gear I realised I didn’t really need one. If I’m out for the day in a familiar area I wear suitable clothing and carry water, food and basic 1st aid in a small backpack. The most likely problem to slow me down would be a blister so I have that covered. In wilder, unfamiliar territory I take the possibility of getting lost into account and carry good navigation gear, mark my trail so I can backtrack safely and tell someone where I’ve gone. Even on a day hike I’ll also carry lightweight overnight gear, food, water and spare socks so I can camp in comfort if necessary. If I estimate a real possibility of danger, like motor biking up on mountains miles from help and with no cell signal, I carry a small satellite distress beacon. It’s a couple of hundred dollars to buy but no cost after that and waaay better than a whistle. If I break a leg and need rescuing I’m not flashing a mirror at passing planes! My pack base weight would be about 12 pounds. The most used scenario for needing a separate survival kit is the loss of someone’s main pack. I’m not sure how this happens. I don’t put my pack down on the edge of a cliff or river, no one’s stolen it so far, I don’t put it down and wander off absentmindedly and forget where I put it. I don’t make camp then wander off either. In the outdoors that gear is worth more than gold so I take care of it. If I had to cross a river I’d attach it by a long cord to my belt. My point is, real survival situations are life and death, not minor inconvenience. A serious fall could lead to head injuries; sickness may make walking out impossible, hypothermia can kill you in a couple of hours if you can’t get warm. Proper gear that really provides shelter, warmth or rescue is bulkier and heavier than a mini kit, so why not carry it when common sense says it might be needed and take precautions not to lose it?

We don't all own the same gear, so I would have a small flashlight, but not a tiny, miniature sized one. I think the tiny items should be in one's pockets, clipped to belt loops, on a key ring, a purse or bag strap, etc. Along with a pocket knife, the other items, carried as EDC gear provides another level of security that we will have some useful gear. I would probably add some tent stakes and carabiners to make a shelter and a canteen of water and some more food, candy or snacks, some toilet paper and wet wipes. And one pair of gloves plus a hat to protect one from the elements. Many items are a trade off meaning some of us use cordage and knots while some prefer carabiners and bungees. Duct tape is useful to repair rips, but we don't need a roll of it. But if it's orange tape then it could be used to mark trails or signal for help. Overall I think it's a goo sized kit and it could be a bit larger or smaller as people choose to build it.

Unattended Fishing Rich “Raspy” Shawver Automated or a fishing system that works while you are tending other duties. The method everyone knows is the Trot Line. Basically a line stretched across a stream with several lines and hook dangling from it. Another lesser known option or at least discussed is the L 7 tip up. You form two notched pegs the appear to be and L and a 7. Actually they are the same just facing in opposite directions. A spring pole set solidly anchored near water’s edge. or convenient sapling is used to supply the spring force to set the hook. Sort of a primitive speed hook contraption. The seven peg is pounded into the ground facing the water. The L peg is then tied to the pole with any cordage. Then the fishing line is tied to it also. To use the baited hook is tossed out the L peg is hooked in the notch of the 7. When the fish bite it pulls the L free and the pole sets the hook. The tension applied from the pole must not to great. 1. So that the 7 is easily pulled free. 2. It does not rip out the hook. 3. It does not pull the fish on shore to rot. When you come back pull in your dinner. Multiple set can put out to increase the chance of a catch.

can i make a suggestion? Also, in that kit, bring a 3 inch bar magnet. as well as a needle ( or bobby in or some sort of metal strip.) surely this far in the sentence you know exactly why: magnetize the needle, use on top of a leaf in water and thats a compass in case u ever lose your actual compass. aside from that, ur checklist is pretty much identical to mine if we leave brand names out. same same just different names. oooh one last thing everyone if u know ur going hiking or camping, replace your shoe strings with paracord! but yea i think this video was awesome you covered alot.

I fish all my life . Now im going for Bushcraft and survivel . What i noticed ist the big hooks that the most have . I recomend highly to take small hooks also . Im not sure how it is in other countrys but here in Europa we get very small hooks . Like 12 and under . In South Africa a never found a hook under 8 . Small fish can be a meal or bait . And the other thing is ,,, Nelken Öl,,, it takes tooth pain immediatly away and is not ecpensive or heavy . 1 or 2 ml will go a long way .

I would add a small candle to help with fire starting in wet conditions and use for lite or heat under your space blanket. Maybe the Exotac bees wax candle tins.

Great kit!!! I think I would add a slingshot or slingshot bands, ammo, a small pocket saw, some eye screws, a few paperclips, some nails, and some petroleum jelly packets. I would also laminate photos to protect them from the elements.

i would say that you have just about all the bases covered for this small field kit, only item i would suggest adding would be a 2-4 ft micro usb cable. this way you can still charge the head lamp from inside the kit while on the go.

This is all good stuff. Just an observation on the knife front. No doubt that the ESEE model is a good knife but I am a Mora fan and you can get quite a few Mora knives for the price of one Izula. Also the Mora's are more capable overall.

That's a practical sized kit, so many have way too much stuff.. Everyone is all about protein thou, sugar is what super endurance athletes run for days on, dried fruit or powered sugar or sweets. Caffeine pills are pretty epic, if you needed to go all day and all night, but it can take weeks to recover if one overdoes it

Biggest problem with caffeine is its dehydrating effect. You'd be better served having teabags (or instant-coffee bags) -- the liquid consumed while drinking your caff will counter the water loss sufficiently. Plus, the psyche boost from drinking warm/hot "comfort" beverage(s). Of course, that would require the cup/bottle he's not allowed himself in this kit, so would entail a different discussion...

I LOVE ESEE knives, the Izula is a good companion blade but I wouldn't use it as my main bushcraft/survival knife. Personally, my knife loadout is the ESEE 6P, Mora companion (with modifications), a S&W Folder and a Whittling jack-knife. I usually care a Gerber multi tool as well, but I generally don't find that I use it much in the bush, having a good pair of scissors on the multi tool is nice though.

Tim, if you have a Thrunite Ti3 that you're not using, and it has the clip, the clip is reversible; and I've noticed that you typically wear a brimmed cap when outdoors. Sooooo, you could sub it for the i3E and eliminate the headlight. I tried a spare Ti3 clip on my i3E it fits the designated area for lens down carry rather well but there's no accommodation for reversal. Btw these show and shakedown vids are my favs.

Head lamp is good but if you do swap it out I found one that takes two cr2032 batteries that is fairly Brite and has a single flash on it. For only a dollar at the local dollar store.

I liked everything except the RATS TQ. They are proven to not be effective. Instead, I would recommend a CAT or a SOF-T wide.

Sounds like fun wish I had more friends that would like doing stuff like this. Love the izula I don’t have one because I have the Enzo neck knife for a small knife I’d go with the falkniven F1 in vg10 the garberg or if u don’t mind spending a little more the small north American Hunter in AEb-L steel or my favorite very light bark River kephart in 3v super light curly maple handles with red liners love the vasque gear holder it’s on my list along with a maxpedition version.Uco matches are the cream of the crop when it comes to survival matches best I could find. For a lighter I love the exotac lighter and match holder water proof they work great.I also use the sawyer water purification system small easy to use. The light I use is the Thrunite T1 what a great small light and my pen is the titanium ZT pen it takes weight in the rain ink cartridges easy to replace window breaker with a backup cartridge and a rite in the rain small booklet.for fire starting I also have some hanger 51 products really great products can’t go wrong water proof lights easy and fun to use especially the wax woods I always love a good reason to pull my blade out to make some feather sticks.I think if u have room even a few silver coins and a good pair of playing cards for down time to keep u sane mine are made of pvc so u don’t have to worry about them getting wrecked. I have been looking for a very small but well made fishing spool I love fishing and I’m pretty good at it I have some nice rods but you can’t carry a rod everywhere.I also carry tweezers nail clippers tiny bottle of cologne a 10,000 mah charger and the wires that come with it I also carry a titanium toothpick a small orange bandana with survival info all over it and a tiny micro fiber cloth for who knows cleaning stuff knives etc a small falkniven dc3 sharpening stone a leatherman a little paracord a few tie wraps an exotac nano candle tin 4 hr burn time which isn’t bad for how small the tin is some electrical tape and a tiny amount of duct tape and a small pair of scissors a tourniquet bug spray one of those tiny circular measuring instruments that’s about 1/10 the weight of a real measuring tapes and 1/8 the size.A firesteel in case your lighter gets wet or runs out of fuel or the wick goes etc a fat and thin sharpie two whistles one from tops that actually work very well and a titanium one made by WE knives and finally I have a super thin titanium ice pick from Empire tactical for undoing nots or tying nots leather sewing cleaning the grips of your boots out from dirt and many more uses and a titanium toothpick from the Same company as the ice pick and finally I have a tool for tick removal especially helpful if u have animals one side is tweezer like for taking ticks out of humans but with dogs and acts there fur gets in the way so the other side looks like a nail puller but with a much smaller area we’re u would pull the nail instead you run in through the fur until it’s under the tick and then u just light pull it out much easier than trying to get through the fur buy hand so u can hopefully pull it out without leaving some of the tick in great piece of tick gear.Maybe this will help u think of something else that might be useful to your edc. Sorry for the long story. If your interested in trading that Izula I could trade u a mint condition Enzo necker and a shrill dagger but I also have many other small knives I’d trade for it including a BHK woodsman in good condition light wear not use much and the sheath is as nice as the day I got it figured I’d ask but I’m sure u won’t even answer me back trying to trade with people as taught me how slow people are but maybe your better than others 🙏

Very nicely done. Excellent job. Can the kit be attached to your belt? I would move the safety pins from outside to inside the pack. They can open and stab you or get lost. I would also add Immodium AD and maybe a couple of Benadryl caps in with your other pills. Very complete. Very manageable. Very light. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

Great kit. Thank you for the inspiration. I'd recommend putting in more stuff to draw attention. There are compact flares and smoke grenades (enola) that would fit in that pack quite nicely. Being found is the highest priority. The Gerber Dime is a very good alternative for the Leatherman Micra. I would sacrifice a lot of the smaller things (like the survival cards, the extra flashlights, extra whistle, tiny survival guide, etc, etc) for extra food. A good compact saw can also be a life saver. A Bahco Laplander would fit on the outside of your pack, like your mora.

Man you forgot the most important thing about getting lost or injured bad enough you cant walk out. As soon as you realize your lost STOP and stay put. The more you move the less likely you are to be found. Especially if your lost and walking away from the search party. Being hurt and knowing where your at is best to get to a place that you are more likely to be found by someone that can help. You also need a quad map to go with your compass and the know how of being able to properly use it to find your position. Land Navigation without being able to find your position is useless. Other then that I like the kit.

@@EverydayTacticalVids well yeah it's a scenario. I've been on s.a.r teams in the Sierra mountains and there's alot of people we never found because they just kept moving then it turned into a recovery...sorry if my post was a little blunt but not being able to find someone is nerve racking.

@@EverydayTacticalVids another thing you can do is turn your tarp mylar side up during the day so air search has a better chance to see it if the tree cover isn't to thick. Burn green wet tinder for the smoke. Place a road block across the logging road at the entrance. so whoever comes down the road has to stop and get out to move the block giving a better chance for your distress markers to be seen.
