My rule is that anything I decide is for kitbashes or conversions doesn't count towards the pile of shame. It's the way forward for avoiding model responsibility. I'm only a few minutes in but I've heard "kitbash" a couple of times; sack those boxes off, they don't count!

If you’ve used parts from a kit, the rest of the kit counts towards your bits box not your POS.

To have started 40k in just the last few years that is a pretty impressive pile of shame. Piles of shame also determine how long you live since you have to finish everything before you die. So keep adding to that pile to live forever.

@@EColi452 I imagine it's like the Van Helsing movie. Vince's family line are consigned to Purgatory when they die, and cannot move on to heaven until they've completed the oath-sworn duty. Except instead of the duty being "kill Dracula", it's "complete Grampy-V's pile of shame".

I used to do that, then I got more money and would buy 4 weeks worth of painting and building every week for a while... do that a few times and it will start to pile up, I promise :)

Good start on creating your pile. I have been working on my pile for 25+ years, so you got some catching up to do.... I still have space hulk, 2x island of blood, 2x blood bowl box sets, dead zone, Mars attacks, about 5kg of lead dwarfs, a night goblin army, a high elf army, 250 old skeletons (100 built and sprayed, none painted), a chaos army, last edition dark eldar army, fallen Angel's army, loyalist alpha legion army, 50+ lead space marine scouts, an entirely lead snotling army 2kg+ of snotlings with about 10 pump wagons, & marauder giant, 50% of an ogre kingdoms army box .... and that's just the things I can remember off hand..

I've barely started so my pile is currently a half painted SoB squad, Seraphim squad, Immolator, and 2 Saint Celestines (no Protectors). The squad, Seraphim, and Celestines are all the early 2000s metal cast without extra gubbins, and the Immolator is 2007. I got very lucky buying this out of some guy's garage!

I stopped buying product awhile ago, and shoved my pile into the closet. Haven't painted in months, but I have my 25%ish finished Cursed City in a display case next to my work desk. It's tempting me..

I took a 7 month hiatus from painting since my grandson and daughter moved in with me. I just got back into it now that we've reached homeostasis again. I understand that circumstances cause pauses on hobbies, but if it makes you happy you should get back into it.

Now you see. Mine isn't the building. Mine is the painting. I have a few intercessors to build vs the 10 nekron warriors, nekron over lord, assault intercessors and first strike stuff i have to finish painting

If you're looking for ideas about how to decorate the Reanimators, consider taking a page out of Twice Dead King: Ruin, and have them covered in bodies and flayed skin. Build those Flayed Ones, and say they got to the Reanimators somehow, and are using them as walking meat repositories. Flayed One Reanimators.

I’ve got airfix models on a similar pile, got stuff I’ve had for 5 years. Stopped when I had my kids as I didn’t want little bits getting into little hands and into little mouths. Got to wait for my boys to be old enough to understand not to play or touch. I’ve told myself to wait till the youngest is 6/7 so 2 more years I hope 🤞

This reminds me of "old me" having dozens of MtG precon decks sitting around in a big box. "Yeah, I want to play with them, you know" ... same old, same old. But still fun!

My pile is very small in comparison, but I am not use to having a pile. I am working through some stormboyz, grots, a Big Mek, and deffkoptas that I’ve had for far too long. I love watching your 40k content. Keep up the great work!

This is easily a $2-3k pile. I'm terrible about painting my models but I love building them. Just a storm surge I'm converting and some kabalites my gf didn't want to build on my pile ATM. For painting though? I easily need to work on 15k points worth of models across 4 armies.

I didn't see a number :/ It felt like a lot of that was stuff you have no plans on building and will use as bits and such so they don't count :D

I too am in the process of selling off my collection of Magic cards in order to fund my plastic army hobby. Not my decks or anything, just the cards that have never made it into a deck since they don't fit my playstyle. No reason to hold onto cards that I will never play.

Honestly that's why I don't open anything new I buy until I need it for a game. I built 3 boxes of the admech jump infantry juuuust before they announced the box set. Dunno if it's the same in the UK but in the US GW exchanging unopened models is very easy.

Alright, this is a random games workshop type channel, for minis, but I just have a few questions for anyone here. I picked blood angels because my store only had one dreadnought; it was the red guys. What I'm finding is, Blood angels seems to be reducing in the number of units, whereas ultramarines seems to have 30 or so different types; you can get squads of ten for a bunch of different guys. I'll probably get the combat patrol for Blood angels, and try to get a box of each type, and the special single units (Dante looks cool). I think I screwed myself a little on the variety with Blood angels. TL;DR; Should the next Army be orks, or Ultramarines. Or should I just hold out hope that games workshop brings Blood angels back to prominence in 2023?

Blood Angels are my favourite Space Marine chapter. Most Space Marines units can be played in most chapters. That said, every chapter has unique units, and the Ultras probably have the most. But most of them suck. Meanwhile Blood Angels ones range from cool (Death Company Dreadnoughts), to unique and fun (Mephiston) to outright power houses (Death Company, Sanguinary Guard and Dante). I dont think you picked wrong. Its hard to, honestly. There is also a good chance that 10th edition focused on the Bangles, and gives us a range refresh, new chapter unique units or updates to old ones. As for your next, I recomend against another Space Marine. Instead, you can just paint your Soace Marines non descript red, and say they are an Ultras successor. Orks are very fun, but are also melee focused. But that's the fun part imo. Will be a unique and fun modelling project compared to BAs. I have to agree with others that say that your bits box stuff doesn't count lol I definitely don't count my bits box things as part of mine, just count complete or half built kits :)

Since people are talking about kitbashing: Would a head of a Battle Sister or Paragon Warsuit fit on Morvenn Vahl? Morvenn Vahl is my new favorite model. It looks so bad ass, but the "face" looks kinda stupid. I'm just curious, I don't have any models and it's very unlikely Ill ever build Morvenn Vahl

You should be happy about your pile of shame, mine is a lot bigger than yours... I mean mine 'pile of shame'. I bought a hell of amount of products in the past, that I'm gonna paint anyway, then they stayed on my shelves, then they went to boxes, and very recently I had to rent a storage facility just to free up one of my flats.

I am down to only three GW miniatures left in my pile of shame. Working on the Seraphon Carnosaur right now. Just left is Abaddon the Despoiler and a Necromancer. The rest of my pile of shame is a couple hundred 15mm AWI miniatures which are also under way for painting. So I really don't have a pile of shame to be honest. I sold most of my magic cards. Anything of value got sold because I have lost interest and enjoyment in the game. I really dislike wotc and its games and have been actively detoxing my self and life of wotc stuff. I love dungeons and dragons but I only collect and play the TSR versions of the game. I intend to keep one or two mtg decks but that is a big if.
