Just saw this, very compact compared to my monstrosity! :D Also, turns out that pneumatic doors below the falling critters don't need to be open because falling critters behave as debris.
@Luma_plays

Good to know about the doors. I have also seen your design. Basically our two designs could be combined. Leave the lower room here open and add an open-to-the-outside-room to it. Rearrange everything so the critter storage room with a dropper mechanism is in a vacuum place it above a magma pit or cooker mechanism. Done. Edit: Thanks for the tip for the lower door. Who ever reads this: you can leave out the automation for the lower door the pokeshell should just drop through it even when closed. That saves alot of cabling.

is the deodorizer necessary? i rarely ever got pokeshell ranching and the one time i tried doing oakshells i didnt notice any significantly more polluted oxygen going around and i cant be sure whether the polluted oxygen i have lying around is from the polluted dirt feed or somewhere else. regardless, i always love compact builds. well done
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays Ай бұрын
I think that part was optional. It just makes use of the Pokeshells diet. The polluted stuff they eat might off-gas and produce polluted oxygen. But when they eat it they produce sand which can be used in the deodorizers to clean the oxygen as well. So i though it could be a good combination

A small drop of naphtha at the base of the feeder will prevent its content from offgasing. When using conveyor rails, I simply put a dropoff in that naphtha drop and have all polluted dirt sit there. Thus no need for deodorizers.
@Luma_plays

I try to avoid the "wet" debuff more than offgassing polluted dirt since i most of the time have 2kg of pressure in the base which already prevents offgasing. But nice ideas that i didn't think of :)

The pokeshell live 100 cycles until they die. I'm thinking of using a mechanized door to dump the magma to quickly kill them - Do you have any suggestions for this idea?
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
I found a way without dumping magma. Transfering the magma heat via a bridge to the pokeshells that get then trapped in a steel door activating the heat transfer. Only works in vacuum othervise you destroy your base. :/

you mentioned keeping wild pokeshells, do you prefer just making a storing location of pokeshells? or do you still use this? obviously pacu are better for "shells and food" but do you usually use them for the sand? im not sure what else id use the p-dirt for.
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ultimaheart4. One tile storages are normally the best solution for everything. Less computing power needed to calculate the pathfinding and small amounts of shells, food or byproducts for ever. I normally use whatever I can find and need at that moment. That ranch has been specifically designed for KZfaq and is no long time design of me. But alot of testing went into it. Polluted dirt could be used for creating dirt, sand or oxygen. Wild pokeshells are very good in filtration rooms near the water sieve. they eventually die because the polluted dirt is not enough to feed them. But they lay an egg before they perish.
@ultimaheart4304
@ultimaheart4304 2 жыл бұрын
do you prefer the dirt use for p-dirt? i have a ton of water so oxygen isnt an issue, i do need dirt for my crops, i dont use coal much but i could make sage hatchs to turn p-dirt into coal... i realize you said what ever you needed at the time is what you use things for, but i like to partially plan ahead, i dont like to waste my dupes on things i dont need them for.
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
@@ultimaheart4304 For coal I think they would be very inefficient in comparison to the regular or stone hatches. I would probably use them in composts to produce dirt (which can be turned back into p dirt), the heat that creates can be used too.
@ultimaheart4304
@ultimaheart4304 2 жыл бұрын
@@Luma_plays well p-dirt into coal is 140-140 instead of half. sage hatchs are very efficient, but losing the dirt potential into coal isnt great i agree.

Good question. I think this still works. because pokeshells haven't been able to reproduce if not fed at least a bit when tamed. So in this old setup only the breeder pokeshells and the refill pokeshells have been relevant anyways. the rest is just stored. But i am not completely sure

Hey@@RobertLutece909 are you sure about the grooming part? I have a contraption in the pokeshell testing world that does exactly that. The game eggs get hatched then the pokeshells vrow up drop down get groomed once and dropped down again. They die before laying an egg. Because groomed tame pokeshells need wayyy more food. So they die faster and don't lay an egg. At least in my testing. You can delay that by feeding them micrograms of food. but that is tedious. If I am wrong, that would be good cause I could increase the farm efficiency :)
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
@@RobertLutece909 Oh i might found out where we may misunderstand each other. I meant grooming as in ONCE. Not regularly. Short answer: I probably made some weird mistake somewhere. Long answer: So a pokeshell spawn that just grew up to a pokeshell starts with around 850 kcal and when groomed needs 100kcal of that each day. each day they get +17 reproduction. But only for 1 or a few cycles (depending on the ranching skill of the dupe). They would also need 10 days to starve after reaching 0 kcal. After being unhappy while not groomed they will drop metabolism by 80 needing less food and only gaining 2% reproduction per cycle. So a constantly groomed 100% of the time happy pokeshell will need 100/17= 5.88cycles to reproduce and would need 8 cycles +10 cylces to starve. So yes it should work with permanently groomed pokeshells. But i somehow never tried that! :D I tried grooming them once then dropping them in a room so 800 - 100 to 200 kcal for 1 to 2 days happy time which equals to + 17 or + 34% reproduction after that -20 kcal each day but only 2% reproduction. Assuming 2 days of being happy and groomed you would need 33 additional days to get the egg. The Pokeshell has 650 kcal left at that point that is 32,5 days until starving +10 days until the pokeshell dies. So even a single grooming would do the trick IF the pokeshell WOULD stay happy for two days. With only 1 day of happyness this would equal to: 17% + 2% each cycle => 850kcal - 100kcal - 20kcal each cycle after the first => the pokeshell would need to survive 41,5 days after the first groomed day to lay an egg. It reaches 0 kcal after 850-100-(37,5x20kcal), so after 37,5 days. which is not enough but if you add the 10 days it actually needs to die this should ALSO work. Somehow it still does not. Or my math is wrong of course XD. But morst of the time the critter is not 100% happy or gets dropped to slow and only gets half a cycle of grooming (so reproduction 17 divided by 2) as a bonus. The problem is probably the grooming inconsistency. Wait this should work even when not fed: 100% reproduction is reached after 50 cycles by 2% each cycle. and a pokeshell lives for 850kcal/20kcal= 42,5 cycles +10 cyles starving.
