Oh Nikki, you have no idea how you have made my heart sing! I lost my Dad this year and he lived outside of Phoenix. Superstition mountain was his playground when he was a kid and we climbed it for his 80th birthday. We will be spreading some of his ashes there. His birthday was just last month, October 30th. Nikki I have been in a similar situation the saving grace for me was the fact I set up a trail cam in the trees next to where I park up and was able to provide the police with photos of the shitbags and their car , I got all my camera gear back and the insurance company paid for the new window and they got what they deserved I hope .

We need more videos on the dangers of living in your car. Three years ago, my 18 year old daughter quit college and her job to adventure around the USA and paying the bills with a KZfaq channel because so many channels make it look so AMAZING.... She made enough money to pay for gas, food and to do some cool things. She never shared the heartaches and horrors because she was embarrassed. I wish more people talked about how to be safe. My daughter is now a survivor of some of the worst horrors a woman can experience, she is destroyed, penniless and is home starting her recovery. Glad you have a dog!

I just recently watched a video on how to prevent thieves from stealing your stuff while camping. The two good tips I took away from that video were to use these magnetic motion detector lights on your vehicle and motion detector alarms. This would be a good idea for those times when you are on a hike and you are leaving your car with the bike on the back and also your car luggage rack. A small investment to make to protect yourself from thieves. Also you car insurance should cover your loss. Happy camping.

If your bike is always exposed on the bike rack like that, I recommend you get a cable lock. They come in various sizes, usually about 4 ft. long, with a keyed lock on the end. That should be long enough to secure the frame and both wheels to the rack. And start parking backwards everywhere. Love your channel.

Rear wheels are more expensive than the front. If you only have one lock I'd recommend locking up the rear to the bike instead of the front

A tale of opposites, on one side a scumbag that helps themself to someone's stuff, on the other a great group of folks that go way above and beyond to help you get it back together. And some great friends that opened their house to you guys. Don't let the turds get you down, their lives will always be miserable and full of fear.

One solution to the theft problem: Find an old mountain bike in good mechanical condition for a small fraction of what a new bike costs. Less desirable to thieves. Much easier to replace. Durable, reliable, vintage, simple to work on and maintain, fun to ride. Easy to keep inside a vehicle, especially after removing front wheel. You can cover with a blanket so thieves can't see it. And then stay out of high-crime areas.

I have to say, I love your attitude, and the energy you put out..I'm sorry you got robbed in PHX, my home... blessings to you and the pupper..

You've made a carrot Chomper out of me. Stealing is the main reason I avoid the cities. I only go there when I absolutely have to. I spent a few weeks in Tucson last part of June and early July. (Skoolie needed a radiator) I made it a point to sleep on the outskirts of town. I'm hoping you got your bicycle back together by now? Mine means a lot to me. I'm 60 and disabled. It's a fluid motion, so it's the only form of exercise I have left that doesn't leave me in worse shape than when I started. Safe travels and happy holidays 🚌💨

I had a back wheel stolen years ago when I was still in High-school, it was a serious hardship at the time. It was stolen at a library. After that I always took off the front wheel and locked it with the back, it was never stolen again. The bike itself was a rare Italian racing bike called a Klamar, I entered a triathlon with it and placed second. I got a taste of what your friend does that races, just enough to really understand how epic and amazing she is. I understand the channel is about you and your dog traveling around in your Prius. People might come for a few minutes to check out the lifestyle of living in a Prius but nobody keeps watching because of the Prius. You and your dog are the stars of your channel and people will continue to watch regardless of what you drive.

Your safety and you folks not getting robbed is why I would always post your videos a month AFTER you have gone through the area. I can't stand a thief, I wish they would get caught every time. Please be safe in all of your travels.

I totally agree with your perspective on seeing a therapist and living your life now versus that hope that you will be able to soon. I’m just under 4 years from retirement and trying to still live a lot and have experiences building up to the freedom to roam upon retirement…and not 20 mores years. As a rather frequent Walmart camper I've woken up to cops, street sweepers, carts being pushed into my van and even a homeless guy taking a #2. Why can't I wake up, open the sliding door on the van and see "People of Walmart" Nikki rocking black socks, sandals and a tie dye cutoff? =)

Be sure to change the oil and oil filter regularly. Every 5,000 miles. Keep track of it! And rotate the tires every 5,000 miles too.

If you had a cattle fencer hooked to that Prius you would still have your wheel I had a friend who put one on his truck because they kept swiping his stuff out of it at work where he parked. he never lost anything else after he put that 12 volt fencer on it and it would give you and camper peace of mind knowing if somebody touched your car they would rapidly decide to move to a easier Target

Thats a gnarly trail into the Superstitions. I hiked that same trail up through the canyon wash and up to the top of the flatiron. I lived in Phoenix for 2 years, and hiked Squaw Peak all the time.

I’m so sorry to hear that happen, I had traveled about 3 months ago, with my pets through Colorado, New Mexico, even slept in my car at a truck stop, somewhere in New Mexico, and woke up around 4am decided to travel out to Arizona , my home state and rest in flagstaff for afternoon, wishing I had left ; much sooner than/ .., I drove more to get to Phoenix and not realize that I was going to have car issues, Woe! I’m thankful I never got robbed on this Roadtrip of a 1000 mile driving ( no one to help drive), and bringing my 2 pets along ( dog & bird),was an adventurous trip. I’m going to next time have my car check out for traveling.,, and I made it to my hometown by 1 in morning driving with my engine light on ( warning), not good but I didn’t want to be stuck on highway in desert at midnight, so I pray all the way into my destination and thinking about if it stalls out, my pets and I would have to stay put in the car until help.. and? ; ThankyouGod, for safely getting me to my son’s house at early morning hours of one am/2aman slept in my car again ( but safely).♥️🙏🏼

If I am parking with an exposed bike I prefer to wrap it with a polyethylene tarp and rope. Removing the visuals makes it less of an identifiable target, I believe. I do the same thing if I'm locking the bike for an extended time in any area I consider to be higher theft risk than my usual haunts. I believe it works better than having an uncovered, fully visible bike.
