I have run this mans saws after meetin' him in person and listening to him for years, Ill be honest when a few of us in the know pulled one apart to change something, we looked at each other bewildered. Put back together it was undeniable that this works . and works good. Ive got not enough time in my life to come over to blow smoke up some guys arse. But when I EXPERIENCED the gains this man makes , and his knowledge on the maximizing of the two stroke, I was nothin' but a believer and a fan ,. In my humble , but convicted opinion, if you are an up and comer in porting chainsaws, you wood simply be behind the curve if you pass this man buy. the real bonus here is not that he will build you one ,, cause he might not . But that he is trying to guide you freely to some old techniques that he has blown up more saws than most ,(simply because of his time on the bench) in order to get to this point . and he is still excited to learn and advance . what a bonus for the race car driver . (ME). thx Iron Horse i will continue to lift you my brother as i am alway excited when the Box shows up from You.

Hey Mr. still Buff old Billy!!! We listen and love you too brother! LMFFAO!!’n. You have definitely been a dirty rotten little stinker being so lucky to get to have some of the couple of the best tossing hotrods at you Captain!!! But bustin your keester in the tree’s for 30 years is definitely deserving of some real happiness in your older years! I’m just super happy I’ve gotten to hang out and see the show theses past 10-12 years of the saw building world! The saw community has been very fortunate that your friends and you will really share their knowledge and respect and love for each other! I gotta tell ya that I’m a 53 year old 1/2 a hippie tree dude landscaper that still has a mad crush on mama Buckin’s voice and lyrics!! It’s very cool that everyone has played out at the local pubs and are all just a little older and wiser theses days!!! I’m so proud of the man that “Boy!”…. Young Hogan has become! When you look at your boy and you look at Harvey’s boy and how they are just great young men!!! You know that you Two have been great poppa’s to them!!!! Sharing knowledge and Love is always going to brighten up this old world a little!!! Both of you guys are very respected at this house!!!! God Bless y’all and your families… lots of love to Misses Barb and misses Buckin too!!! You guy have a wonderful Christmas holiday season!!!

Okay I am 62 -1/2. Back in 1976 the so-called scoot master was dragging his 67 Mustang at NE-Drag Way. I just got a 1970 Mercury Cougar with a 351. automatic. I knew jack about the way of things. I believed when I put on a pair of supper 70's slicks and spoked front wheels, I was faster. With the carburetor set with a vacuum gage I ended up falling on my face. The scout master changed the metering rods and tricked the trimming. It was better but the only thing I accomplished was trading the cougar for a 69 caprice with a 327.

whats your thoughts about grinding slight grooves from the top wall of the cylinder across the pinch band to flow fuel mix to the spark dome? Maybe less pressure forced back to the rings. I like what You're explaining it's opening my eyes and it makes perfect sense.
@DaveyBlue32
@DaveyBlue32 Жыл бұрын
You would be bleeding off your compression… several cylindrical rings around your band is something pretty awesome!!! If you have a super wide band it’s an advantage if a 1/4” in or a little more from the flat outside edge it’s pitching towards your combustion chamber…. Those gas’s need the room to spin up like a little tornado into your combustion chamber…. There’s a lot of advantages to having those fuel mixture charge’s spinning up into your combustion chamber before the explosion!!!! After seeing Harvey shave the side’s off a piston 7 years ago I started changing my timing numbers by adjusting the pistons and not the cylinder… and the weight reduction is incredible power gain’s!!!

Harvey you serve up the absolute best humble pie and I am so hungry for more! I've been watching porting videos probably a little over 2 years now finally got one 2171 under my belt and thought I'd finally beginning to understand a little bit of what people were talking about, and then you come in here and casually drop five or six absolute nuggets of gold just on transfers. I cannot wait for your videos on intake and exhaust ports because I know I've probably done another dozen things I didn't even know I did wrong that I will be able to do differently on the next saw afterwards!

I have always wondered if anyone has tested a reed valve on the exhaust to prevent reversion, would it hold more spent gases in the combustion chamber or would the speed that each cycle is happening hold it open at the high end but increase power down low?
@Gfthce3426
@Gfthce3426 Жыл бұрын
Now that's interesting. How far would the reed need to be away from the exhaust port to snap shut and cause a draw on the transfers ? Or would it ? What about a rotary valve tbat caused a vacuum just ahead of the export opening ? Think oil pump ??

In your opinion do pioneers like short or long blow down? They’re made with that lip inside the top edge of the transfer which seems like it would not help air flow at all. Not that I have the tools to take it out but still curious how it would it would perform with say stock blow down of 20 compared to my ported blow down of 26.

Hey Mr Ironhorse, I have a quick question; does the 52mm factory Husqvarna 372xpw cylinder make more power than the 50mm 372xp (non x-torque)? I got into a feud with a guy that said that the 52mm was a waste of money, because being designed for a cut-off saw, the factory porting is less ideal than a true 71cc P&C. Now, from experience, the husky 365 (48mm) has a broader & smoother powerband, kicking in at a lower RPM than a 372... therefore it's more forgiving. But the peak power is definitely in favor of the 372. Being a classic muscle car guy... "There's no replacement for displacement.".... am I wrong? Any thoughts?
@Ketis1985
@Ketis1985 Жыл бұрын
OEM XPW cylinder 51,4mm and i believe its NLA these days. All the 52mm top ends for 372 chassis are aftermarket. If you have good running saw with 50mm p&c i would just work with that. I have not messed with 51,4mm topends but heard that many guys like the low end torque of the those.
