Knoebels is my hometown family park. It’s different but it has a charm you cannot find possibly anywhere else. You’ll have to visit a second or third time to really appreciate it. Also, regarding Phoenix - it’s not the best woodie, but it’s certainly my favorite. It’s not the biggest or the fastest, but it has its own charm to it. Hope you have a better experience at Knoebels on you next visit!

If that was your only visit ever to Knoebels, you definitely need to get back on a better day, as the park is pure magic. The park is a circlur loop that has had an extra ring added over the years, so not sure where you got the "L" layout from. My dream coaster for the park would be a RMC terrain coaster on the hillside. Like Boulderdash on steroids. 100th anniversary is coming up in a few years, lets see what Dick and the family can come up with. Hoping we can get up there eventually in 2020 once it's safe enough for everyone to have some fun again.

You need to come back to ride Phoenix during Phoenix Phall Phun Fest during the Covered Bridge Festival. The whole mood, atmosphere and ride is completely different when riding it in the dark surrounded by hardcore fans. It's a weird layout with the camp ground and mountains all around it but there's a reason the park has been around since 1926. You just don't get that from other much modern parks. You have amazing food, solid flat rides and coasters. The owner is down to earth and you can sometimes see him talking with the guests.
@mhtube014 жыл бұрын
So true. Knoebels is the amusement park I grew up going to since it was only about 1 hour 20 minutes away from home and it's the perfect park for the whole family to go to without breaking the bank, even those who don't like rides. I think they have the best flat ride line up of any park I've been to. They have so many thrilling, old school rides that you don't see anywhere else and their coaster collection is really solid. They go for quality of quantity and succeed. I grew up about the same distance from Dorney and while I like going there, you can't just go there for a few hours to get your money's worth IMO like you can Knoebels. Same with Hersheypark which I grew up about 2 hours from. I definitely rank them higher than Dorney as they have an excellent coaster collection but again, you need to spend the whole day there to get your money's worth.

Knoebals is one of the finest parks I've ever been to... free parking and free admission!!! Beautiful wooded valley and forest park with a large creek through the park... good food and reasonable prices... Phoenix is a wonderful classic woody which does a lot without super height or length,,, good speed and awesome airtime... Twister is its complement being more banked turns and weaving the structure... Flying Turns is super interesting and fun but real short and an awkward layout... best bumper cars you'll ever find... having been to dozens of parks in the US, Knoebals is a real special experience
@blyat_horse1564 жыл бұрын
As a Knoebels regular, I can guarantee you would have had a much better experience when it's dry. The woodies run fast and airtime a-plenty, plus the park just has this beautiful small town feel too it, especially with it not having an entrance. You can literally enter and walk around without any charge and just look at the scenery and feel the happiness around you. Foods some of the best I've ever had at a theme park too. Edit: I almost forgot about flying turns! It's a great experience, they really nailed down the experience of flying. I remember it being there for years under construction because they just kept trying to get it right.

You gotta remember that Knoebels is a family park. They may not want to invest on really big attractions like Cedar Fair does. It's a very unique park hidden in the woods with some classic rides like the carousels and also serves as a camping/cabin resort. Dorney Park though neglected on high is still a very decent park. Great coasters, great rides, some of which are old too since it is a classic trolley park. Yes many of the rides are hand me downs, and the layout is weird since Cedar Fair bought it, but overall the park was able to grow and adapt considering it had some hard times in the 80's.

Hallow fun at Knoebels in 2018 was awesome, even though some rides closed because of rain. It was cold and pouring, meaning Phoenix and twister were HAULING so fast, the ejector on twister was insane and the rain stung so much. But it was running so fast! Last ride on Phoenix pitch black in the rain was unbelievable, i was getting ejector on everything, and it was the only time on a coaster I legitimately feared for my life lol. On the double up and double down on the second part of the layout, the ride slowed, and then FLEW down the double down, and the airtime was actually sketchy! When the ride was over, the train FLEW through the brakes into the station. WOW. One of the best coaster experiences of my life.

When you return to Knoebels, dedicate at least one full day, if not more. Don't underestimate how much there is to do, there's a reason it's my personal favorite park I've been to. Some recommendations: -Ride the Flyers. They’re next to Flying turns and looper. This is mandatory, and are probably one of the top 5 rides in the park as long as the guy operating the ride doesn’t slow it down too too much. -Ride the haunted manor, very charming haunted house that's a blast to ride. -Ride the skooters (bumper cars). They’re like mini tanks, you get some serious bumps out of those. Among the very best bumper cars in the world. -The train and Skyride are also both great, and Kosmo's Curve is actually better than you probably expect. -Eat the 5 for $5.75 pierogis sautéed in butter and onion. They’re right next to the Oasis restaurant, near Power Surge. All the food here is good, but that’s the best thing in the park (best theme park food I've personally had). There are other pierogis in the park, but they’re nowhere near as heavenly. -Ride downdraft too, it's a very unique and intense flat ride. -Get a Twister front seat night ride. Hands down the best way to ride that thing. -Phoenix is best in rows 1, 3, and 12. Do give it re-rides, since when it's running well it does give stand up airtime in the 2nd half. -I haven’t done them yet, but the antique car ride under Phoenix looks cool. -Take a spin on Cosmotron, fun little indoor himilaya

Knoebels is one of my home parks, and after many visits I have found it to be a very beautiful, classic small park. Their food is great, and the setting is just gorgeous! I know you said you didn't like Phoenix or Twister very much, but personally I found that Phoenix has some insane out of your seat airtime, so much so that with my long legs, I always end up hitting my knees on the train, especially those last few bunny hills. Those things always make me genuinely scared I am going to fly out, because of those buzz bars. And Twister, while the airtime isn't very good, I found the insane laterals and unique layout to be really fun! I think I actually like Twister more than Phoenix haha. The other thing I love about both rides is how they are just butter smooth. It is so impressive, especially since Phoenix is so old and Twister was built in house!

Knoebels is my home park, go every year at least once. There may be slight bias here, but there is so much more magic to Knoebels than what you unfortunately experienced. It’s definitely not the best park for coasters, but it’s a great family experience with lots of other great rides for thrill seekers. As other people mentioned, Phoenix was just having a bad day. Far and away my favorite woodie. There’s also a bunch of really amazing things about the park that you missed out on! Mainly the carrousel and the food. It is odd that there is no main gate, but I think that adds to the character of the park. Knoebels is a free admission park, and I think a gate takes that away from the park. I think Knoebels has a lot of potential to become a better park for coaster enthusiasts, but that might detract from everything else it has going for it. I feel another visit is in order haha.

I'm hoping that new woodie comes soon. As for Knoebels, it's starting to catch my attention slowly. Hydra was riding very smooth that day, but it sounds like it can be temperamental. Steel Force gave me very slight airtime on those bunny hills. Nothing noteworthy at all, but better than Mamba's bunny hills, which are totally nothing all the time. Demon Drop is a very fun ride: kind of a drop tower, kind of a coaster. The waterpark is excellent!

I remember that storm very well, my wife and I were trying to start our honeymoon when all of the airports on the east coast basically redirected all flights else where. We eventually did make it to Malta, but damn, that was a hell of a storm.

There was a rumor of a wooden shuttle gravity group for Dorney park over the weekend, but the meeting was withdrawn likely due to corona virus and cedar fair delaying investments. Knobels I think would be a great place for a couple of coasters: My top 5 picks 1.Custom Layout Rmc Raptor or Custom layout GCI or Rmc wooden coaster 2.Chance hyper gtx 3.Premier rides skyrocket 2 like Tigris or Tempesto 4.Spinning coaster by either zamperla or Maurer 5.New generation vekoma family suspended coaster like dragonflier at Dollywood

Knoebels actually already has a relationship with GCI since they're headquartered about 30 minutes down the road in Sunbury, PA. GCI re-tooled and re-tracked part of the Twister's helix to prevent the constant maintenance it used to need due to the stress its original angle was putting on it. I think an RMC of any kind is pretty unlikely due to cost and complexity, though your other ideas would all be good fits.

definitely give Kozmo’s Kurves a shot next time you’re there, it actually gives some legendary pops of air haha

The coasters at Knoebels aren't amazing, but this is one of the few parks where you go for the park, not the rides. It's has a very unique atmosphere and just feels nostalgic, as well as being in a beautiful area. Hopefully you check it out again soon, especially when Flying Turns opens.

Dorney is a great pit stop for me going to Hershey Park from NJ. It doesn’t take long to ride everything there, and the coasters are decent. Talon still manages to be my favorite b&m invert after riding 12. Probably will change after getting to BGT though

I like looking at Park maps, especially the ones that are available at Knoebels. You know, so you don't spend an hour looking for a shop.

Sometimes riding coasters in the rain is fun. I remember riding Rolling Thunder at SFGAdventure in the rain and I don't t think I ever laughed so much on a roller coaster before, was so fun.

i think they are putting a coaster because they removed stinger and are now removing something else... and because great adventure and hershey got something for 2020 and american dream mall opened

Talon was my first coaster EVER as a kid. So much nostalgia 🥺 Oh, and the lack of attendance wasn’t because of the weather... it’s always that dead anymore 🤷🏼♀️

After their rumored Gravity Group woodie, I could see either a new family coaster (RES Roller Ball, Gerstlauer Family, etc.) or a small B&M dive (Emperor was $11M), giving them a standout B&M trio.

So let me tell you about my experience with a Chance Hyper GTX. When KY kingdom reopened I worked for the local Amazon, and only Amazon employees and ACE members were allowed in the first day of opening. I was one of the first 500 riders on Lightning run, and it was my first encounter with those awful restraints. They dont work for tall people. I had dents in my shins after riding, I couldnt enjoy the ride at all because it felt like my shins were trying to break. After I got off the ride, there was an old guy asking people how they liked it. I laid into him about the restraints, saying if you're gonna have unnecessary shin bars you need a tester seat or a sign that says "if over 6'3 this is gonna suck". Turns out that old guy was Ed Hart, and when I came back later in the summer to relax in the waterpark BOTH of my suggestions had been implemented. Albeit a much more professional sounding warning sign.

If you ever make it back out to Knoebbels you might also want to check out Lakemont Park in Altoona. They have the world's oldest operating coaster, Leap the Dips. They have a few other vintage 60's woodies. I hear Kennywood is worth visiting too.

You need to come on a really hot day when there has been just a bit of rain, Phoenix feels legit dangerous then.

I live in Florida and is originally from Pennsylvania. I've been to Knoeble's in 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2016. It is a family owned and operated park by the Knoeble's family. An RMC raptor here isn't far fetched, but I highly doubt a B&M will go there. As for Dorney, a GCI would be a stupid fit there. I used to work as an operator at Hersheypark and you'll be surprised how many guests pass up Dorney of Hershey. I can see an RMC or even a Gravity Group woodie go here. It is would fill in their modern woodie gap in their line up. I was at Dorney in 2013 and 2014 and clinched the park in the process (yes I rode Stinger and was a pile of forceless Vekoma rubbish). Definitely is stale and could use a new coaster.

Are you kidding? I got some of the best floater of my life on Steel Force back in September. It was a front row ride with a lot of room at like 10:30 at night. Even the drop off the midcourse had decent airtime. True the hills at the end didn’t have the ejector that I heard Magnum has, but still. And Possessed is hella intense in the back. Definitely recommend. Dorney holds a special place in my heart.

So I have pretty much grown up at Knoebles. Its free admission and free parking so it’s awesome. You will totally have to go when its not raining, and there is a lot more to that park that just coasters and an L shape. Flying Turns is great too.

Next time you go to knoebels you should check out the knoebels haunted mansion if you have time, its really great dark ride. Also i think you would like Phoenix better on a dry day. I rode 7 times on a warm sunny day and got standing airtime in the back. I hope your visit this year will be better.

So I had my first experience on steel force today, and out of the three different ride I had, my air times varied greatly. My first ride, I was constantly out of my seat with every crest of a hill. It kinda sucks how air time is such a gamble.

Used to go to Knoebels for a weekend every summer when i was a kid. I had 7 stitches right under my nose (from falling off a truck). As we were boarding the train to Phoenix, the sky's opened up. I couldnt really get the stitches wet, so i held my hat over my face. It was POURING and I couldnt see anything. It was still fun lol

I go to dorney at least once a year (i live close but not too close where i go so often) and it is always dead, One trip in 2013 was pretty packed but every day since then has been super slow and I never wait more than 5 minutes for anything, attendance is for sure an issue and its a shame, hopefully the new coaster rumored will boost attendance

You should go back to Dorney because they are finally getting a coaster!

Vortex Luigi Rosalina 55 unless the rumor is false and they’re really moving Woodstock Express to another part of the park and rename it to Big Dipper.

I live in the area, and the weather was just trash during that time. The Susquehanna River went over flood stage, and at one point, the area around Skyrush at Hersheypark was inundated with mud.

Really sad you didn’t go on the bumper cars or flyers. The food is also incredible as is fascination. Phoenix and twister are amazing coasters but just like most woodies, they aren’t as good with empty trains. Definitely didn’t get the full Knoebels experience

Looking at your footage from Knoebels, damn were the woodies running slow. You'll have a better experience next time. Also everytime you bring Hydra up, I'm obligated to let off some steam from my growing up going to Dorney - I absolutely hate B&M floorless and Hydra is just unbearable
