How LMAO. Kenji coming back as a hippy guitarist badass was one of the worst things about 20st cb. The entire latter half should have been cut, shit started dragging like crazy and having plot twists for the sake of having twists.

@Friend20thcenturyboys I read plenty of manga in general that's how I can have fleshed out and more substantial opinions. Nothing is immune to criticism, and while 20tcb definitely had very strong parts that I liked, there's nothing wrong with me stating my problems with it. Kenji coming back felt like a retcon because Kanna was hyped up as the last hope, only for Kenji to eventually come back and steal the show. He wasn't a nuanced character once he came back either, just too obsessed with being a badass guitarist to the point where he doesn't even have a proper talk with Kanna.

@@niko_slayer8322 In the ending we got to know that Fubukei's group had 4 members and the fourth member was actually the Friend after Fubukei died also his name is Katsumata who was going to suicide in 1970 or so from the roof of his school but kenji played the 20th century boys on the speakers and changed his mind so hi did not suicide and there's much more but that's just the gist of it

Nah nah he didnt do anything. I know he struggled and did so many sacrifices but he didnt fight or do anything but he believed in his friends and niece and didnt do anything to kill friend. He died on his own

@@thatsawsome3347Did you read 20th Century Boys? He didn't just chill. He lost his memories. He also didn't die. When he still had his memories he did more than anybody else, including Tomodachi. My man Kenji created him and destroyed him. He literally did everything in a span of a few days what both Friends did in the span of 2 decades. He came in and made everybody believe in him. His manipulation was even greater than that of Tomodachi in the end. Without Friend there would be Kenji, but without Kenji there wouldn't be Friend.

Did you know ? The speaker at the beginning of chapter 1, who was speaking through the "Narrator Box," was actually the "2nd Friend" 🤯 If you compare the scene at the beginning of chapter 1 with the chapter by the end where Kenji finally apologizes/confronts the "2nd Friend," in the "Memory/Dream Simulation," is the exact same place (on the rooftop of the school they went to.) At first I thought the person speaking through the "Narrator Box" in chapter 1 was Kenji. Whaddya think about it? Do you think Urasawa planned about "2nd Friend" from the beginning ?

I think people don’t understand the ending (I’m talking about the original ending not the new one)for me it hit hard when u realize that friend didn’t jump out of the building because of Keji in the start they told us that kenji put that song hoping for a chance but nothing changed no one cared but it changed the world. Also the 2 friend wasn’t supposed to have a face or drop background that why makes it beautiful.

I don't know if at this point you still haven't, but the ending of 20th century boys is not the original ending, there is another manga with 15 chapters called 21st century boys, that one is the true ending, and in my opinion, it's way above 7.2

I agree with most but I find Friend as an antagonist not too well developed compared to his other works like Johan. It almost doesn't make sense as to why would ppl find Friend appealing enough to follow him we never get to know his true manipulative skill or even display of charisma like we got for Johan also his motives dont make sense Fukubeis motives are somewhat clear but I don't know about Katsumata I honestly think Fukubei was the better friend in the story.

Fukubei is the perfect "friend". He died because of yamane's betrayal as he didn't follow the " book of prophecy". And katsumata died because he LOST. He lost because kenji apologized which was the motive for him.

Yeah, I’m not so sure about that ending rating. 20th cb is my favorite manga of all time, you seriously need to read It. The ending could be a bit hard to understand if u haven’t read the final conclusion, which is a separate book/series called 21st century boys. I feel like I might be just slightly bias but imo 20th cb is a 10/10 in all categories except for the ending which I would actually give a 9/10

Yeah monster conclusion is insane: insanely bad, just like the rest of that bullshit. 20CB, on the other hand, is a masterpiece and a story that the people who read it will never forget, especially the last reveal

On the other hand, i LOVE 20CB, the ending stuck in my head for months after i finished reading, unfornatunately is not as well known because of the lack of the anime adaptation

I absolutely loved everything this show had to offer , all the plot twists , the characters , world building etc. The ending felt slightly weak compared to the whole story...but was satisfactory. If I had one issue it is that the plot heavily relies on supernatural powers which kind of feel out of place in this setting but nevertheless one of the best manga I have read and would recommend to everyone.

Noo it's perfect, after kenji meeting his child self at the end, it was a cliff hanger. 21st century boys really told us the origin of katsuma aka second friend
