They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Nightwish changed my life. The first time I heard Floor sing I could feel again after 10 years of sadness and chronic illness. It´s unbelievable but listening to this band daily is the biggest game changer ever. It´s the most rewarding rabbit hole in music. I wish you well on your journey ahead. Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. It's been popular in Europe and S America for many years but is just catching on here. I'm relatively new to Nightwish-- since 2012 and have only seen them live once, in 2016. There is NOTHING this side the Atlantic that comes even remotely close to them.

She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer from the band Sabaton and they live on a wee farm in Sweden with the barn converted into a recording studio. They have a pre school aged daughter (Freja) two cats, an Irish Wolfhound, a horse and a pony. Floor has had covid and spent a year in isolation. She and Hannes made series of youtube videos that are well worth checking out . Tuomas Holopainen is arguably the best composer of this era. Some call him the Metal Mozart, but he is beyond that - you can hear the influences of Sibelius, Nielsen, Karl Orff and Ralph Vaughn Williams in his work. Tuomas is above all else a poet. He is a very learned man and he has a fierce thirst for acquiring comprehension. Both Tuomas and Floor have said that they are "high sensitives". Welcome to the Finnish Symphonic Metalband NW, remember that Floor Jansen (Dutch) 3rd and current frontwoman only was 10 months with the band at Wacken 2013. 10 Months earlier she came as a substitute for Anette Olzon, who became sick in the middle of a world tour and had to go to the hospital. NW called Floor and she said yes. She had to learn the setlist in 48 hours and did that on the flight from the Netherlands to Salt Lake City where she joined the band on their way to Seattle for the next concert. The last part of the song the previous singer(s) didn't do, so she made it her own, with as result 10 months later At Wacken this MASTERPIECE. I was the same way when I heard this song for the first time. Goose bumps all over and I knew right away I was listening to something special. The more I listened to this band the better it got and because of Nightwish I discovered so many other bands and my love of music again.

I can relate to your amazement! Started my Nightwish journey after my adult Son took me to a Sabaton concert here in the states. Except for lesser known mostly blues groups touring small venues, I'd grown tired/bored of the over-commercialized American music scene! Discovering the bands from Europe/Scandinavia, especially metal, has been a breath of fresh air . Nightwish and Floor, don't just perform ... their music is a complete sensory experience! While Nightwish is one of my favorites, and Floor is one of the, if not the best vocalist in the world today ... she can sing anything, please explore the music scene across the Atlantic ... there is some awesome music there!

When someone requests you to react to Nightwish for the first time, it means they like you. The band is awesome and there's nothing like hearing them for the first time. Regarding their style, although they classify as Symphonic Metal, you can't say you know their style after a piece or two. They make music so different, that you could hear them at different songs ang think are different bands (except for Floor's voice and the fact that their performance is always flawless). Regarding Floor (the vocalist) you probably though "now I know she has a wide range", but she has always more. You can listen for instance, "Yours is an empty hope" or her participation in "Beste Sangers" and be surprised by how much more range she has. You can also have great times exploring the range of Floor vs. the unique style of their original vocalist, Tarja. Good luck exploring the world of Nightwish. It is a journey and a lot of good times to enjoy.

It is obvious our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen has taken yet another soul. The goosebumps you felt are called a Floorgasm. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands, here is some background information on her. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very beautiful music video out of that. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also spent some time at the Conservatory to learn some more classical singing. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. Besides managing a band on her own she also did vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour ('Please learn the setlist in 48 hours'). The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is very challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating is this iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival which set new standards in Open Air concerts. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band as the relationship between Nightwish and Annette was strained even before she got ill. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp'for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died' is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZfaq. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa', and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZfaq in the last year and a half and uploaded many interesting videos on her channel. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even did a video reacting to herself performing this at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left there. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (turned 4 years last march), a horse and pony, a dog and a bunch of cats, she found this.

I doubt any bands live performance will ever top that song on that magical night in Wacken 2013..lightning in a bottle performance!!!

Floor Jansen has been singing in bands since 16 but only joined Nightwish 10 months before this concert. 15 songs all written for previous two singers and she nailed every one with not a single bum note. She also has her own KZfaq channel where you will find some amazing covers that cross several genres. Have fun.

I am. I have watched other reactions to this video and you are all reacting the same as me. We have not heard of this group because of corporate bought radio. My favorite band now. This may be one of the greatest performances ever by a band. They made another video in Buenos Aires of this song that rivals this performance.

Info dump for you below!😁 Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+). Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other vocalists are - Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals. Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals. Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera. The other band members are/were - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland) Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland) Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Retired in 2014 due to health issues Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom) Kai Hahto - Drums (Finland) - 2014 to Present Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on KZfaq where she regularly posts covers of songs. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied. The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible. Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Romanticide, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Ever Dream, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken). Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. Prepare for the Nighwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘

There are no bad songs and each one you hear will become your new favorite. That might sound ridiculous but we have seen it over and over again. This is a live band. This is a rarity that the live music is better than the engineered versions. Stick with live. I see General Gabriel has arrived to give you a road map and a history to help you on this most magical of journeys. A few of my suggestions outside of this concert venue, Yours is an empty Hope, Wembley. (The cruise ship video is not as good) How's the heart, Planet Rock Acoustic version and I want my tears back, Buenos Aires Argentina. Loved your personality. Welcome to the world of Nightwish.

I had the same feelings when I first heard this, and I mean I was impressed with the whole band before she started singing, but once she did...I was in total disbelief of what I had heard. You have just listened to the greatest vocalist I have ever heard. The band, also, so much talent, so well composed and played. I consider Floor with Nightwish is a perfect union, and I hope you check out more, you will be glad you did. Nice reaction.

I feel you girl, welcome to the Nightwish army, I was following Nightwish since 1995 kind of got away from them until I got a notification from this very same concert this very same song and I knew they had a new singer and I'm thinking well you know what being in Nightwish you have very big shoes to fill until she brought her own shoes, this is the third singer in their installment Tarja Turunen is the original Anette Olzon is there a second and now the multi-talented Floor Jansen.

Never gets old seeing people hear Floor for the first time. Just food for thought...This was Live and Nightwish had things tight enough to sound almost like a studio recording even at a live concert... after going for a while.
