Bobby could take a ballad that has been recorded by tons of others and make it his own. A few other examples are Since I Fell for You, I Love You for Sentimental Reasons and If I Ruled the World. As I say often, if someone were to set the phonebook to a pretty tune and Bobby Hatfield sang it I'd feel personally serenaded.

Another one you will love is "If I ruled The World." He could make so many different sounds to his voice. This is one great example. Bill also has some great vocals on this l.p.

Chad got 3 songs you'll checkout "GuessWho" on Shindig, and Bobby did a couple DooWoops that are Great "INeedAGirl" and "Lonesome" man Bobby could sing it all, the best ever, shouda been bigger hits and he should a got more Recognition, for his Vocal Range makes you feel it inside, Dynamite!

Bobby's music was always art. He was truly gifted in a number of areas...sports, music, voice and dance. But he was a gifted college student as well. I'm so happy that people are again appreciating his music and unusual style. Years ago, not all whites liked his soul sound. He gave up a sports career for that love of music.

You're so right about Bobby's style. It was not a copy of someone else's singing, but he was influenced by a number of soulful singers who predated him. He made every song he sang his own. At that time (the song was recorded in 1968), the expectations of the listening audience veered toward other popular music (Hey Jude, Little Green Apples, the Dock of the Bay, etc.). The country was shaken by MLK's assassination, RFK assassination, the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, ongoing protests and riots, protest songs, etc. The young people foremost all over the world were becoming disillusioned. Demand for show tunes was waning, certainly ballad-style music was slowly taking a back seat. And Bobby's voice was so well-suited for show tunes, modern classical music and ballads. I am glad though that the beauty of his singing is rediscovered and given its proper dues.

How about- 'Glory of love' by Peter Cetera, 'wonderful tonight' by Eric Clapton, 'let your love flow ' by Bellamy brothers, 'hooked on a feeling ' by blue swede, 'wild ride' by Dwight Yoakam, 'jackson' by Johnny Cash, or 'words' by bee gees, a few thoughts from different styles of music, I'm open to most stuff.
