Guys, remember the format. Full, short, and HU are TOTALLY different games. DNegs is obviously a HoF player but the less players in a game, like HU, it’s a new world. Full ring, you 100% fold JTo UTG+2 vs UTG open. Simple example. But 6 max, suit JT and 3 bet frequency comes into play. HU...fuk yeah. Give the man a break. He’s one of the best to ever play poker. He just got worked by one of the best HU specialists in the world.

I think this was a fair an honest assessment of what we all saw this session. Honestly the sessions Daniel battled back from being down 2-300k in a few sessions to get back to even was some of the best poker he played. He flirted with playing extremely well but ultimately hasn’t fully unleashed himself from years of thinking in a certain way. Anchoring bias is a really tough one to overcome but overall I was very impressed with how he played. If he played like he was in the last quarter of the challenge and was running good there is a really chance he could have won this, but he simply didn’t catch up in skill wise fast enough. If Daniel keeps at it I think he could be very dangerous in the future. Overall, this was excellent for poker as a whole.

@@mikoajpiatek6716 Doug predicted he would win roughly a million (that’s twenty-…five I’m pretty sure) buy-ins. That’s what really impressed me. He knew he’d win, but he was really close to exactly how much. Regardless of how much money he has to burn (it was also good for his brand, and what a way to get some practice) D-Negs should be applauded for taking the challenge. He played Doug at his game and kept it competitive. How many people would put their own money up to play at such a disadavantage? This was wildly entertaining and definitely a win for the culture.

@Chzydawg 3 жыл бұрын
Smoked him, sure. 1.2 million over 25000 hands, it's really not that much of a loss to Negreanu. I like Negreanu and Polk equally but, as far as losses go, players like Negreanu and Polk have lost as much in single digit hands, nevermind 25000 hands. He lost $48 per hand if you want to get technical, that's not really what constitutes smoking and the total earnings don't equate to legendary status. Honestly Polk should beaten Negreanu by a lot more if his talk before this series was anything to go by.

@@Chzydawg Negreanu tried to compare himself to Michael Jordan. All Doug said was that he’s the favorite to win. Daniel is one of the best poker players in the world, and Doug still won 30 buy ins and clearly outplayed him despite being retired for at least a year, maybe years. Doug also offered for them to play half heads up no limit, and half another game of his choice. So there’s no excuses for Daniel.

Can't even really play poker in Australia anymore anyway, online is banned and Australia has this funny rule that each state can only have 1 casino in it. Even if I wanted to play there the tables consist of the same 15 people day in, day out, which is really fucking boring. Can't even lose $300 playing poker anymore, let alone rage about it. Doug, in the insight video, when you look at the solver you often say something like: raise is 0.2bb (20bb/100) better than call. But the thing is that you didn't run solver long enough. The theory says that against other GTO strategy the EV difference in mixed hands is exactly zero. It is usually possible that if you run solver long enough that you would get that a hand is not mixed (the hand you thought is mixed), or you will get exactly zero EV difference. The proof for that is very simple.

My respect for DN's technical abilities as a poker player went up as a result of this challenge. I genuinely thought he would get annihilated and, despite the eye-watering $ figure, in terms of ev bb/100 it was far from that. I still maintain the belief that a lot of the old-school name pros would've got absolutely rinsed (not naming names but genuinely believe a lot of those guys would have tables revolving around them at 500nl online) but I think it's fairly clear that DN is separate from those guys. I wasn't convinced before this challenge. However, his bitching about variance is a symptom of a live player not understanding the brutality of online, and the brutality of online HU specifically. But even at 6max reg tables when you're grinding 400+ hands an hour, you'll have spells where you greenline just plummets mercilessly in a very short period of time. Live that might be a few days of grind. He's def a bit of a noob in that regard - probably not helped by it being both online and HU.
