From 2001 to 2005, I was a WWE wrestler, and Vince McMahon was my boss. During that time, I got to know what Vince is really like in real life. In this video, I share my relationship with him and if the current allegations against McMahon have changed my opinion of him.

I knew about Vince's shenanigans since the 90's bro, it's just a shock it's all coming to a head now because he's use to burying this kind of stuff and getting away with it. Just glad you got out the business with a level head many lose it and don't come back from the insanity of the wrestling business

These are not the first allegations against Vince and the upper levels of WWE and they will not be the last. Pro Wrestling as an industry has been absolutely rotten with monsters and abusers since the carny days - but the fact people are finally facing consequence is a good sign for the industry. It's not enough, not by a long shot. But it's a step towards a better future.

Hey Maven. I want you to know that your channel has quickly become one of my absolute favorites to tune in to at the end of the day. Your honesty, humility, your over all being is really something I really try to learn from. I appreciate so much how you always talk about things that others would probably avoid for fear of being frowned on, or looked down on. If there's anything this video should reminds us about is that its this: There's nothing in this world that is as simple as black and white. Right and wrong. There are thousands, millions, probably billions of shades of gray in between. Vince has done some truly amazing things in the past. Still, it is this same individual who committed these absolutely horrible, atrocious and unforgivable acts. It makes absolute sense that in light of recent events, how some people who knew Vince closer, or worked with him on a daily basis would have very conflicting, difficult feelings. But again, I am so grateful that you found it in yourself to be able to give your personal experience on what he was like then, and how you feel now. I feel like a lot of statements and comments I've seen so far had been so vague, that it felt like it went in one ear and out the other for me. But your video really sticks because it really speaks volumes about just how complex most of our feelings are. Thanks again man. Grew up watching you in the ring. It's a true blessing to watch you 20 something years later on youtube.

This. Almost all of the interviews I’ve seen from former wrestlers whether they be low, midcarder, maineventer, whatever, emphasize Vince’s fairness and open door policy. Sure he was a control freak that ran a tight ship but that’s business. WWE is the cream of the crop and you’re expected to perform at a high level every night. Tough yet understanding is the impression I get from everyone that talks about the man.

Fair play Mave, thats a good honest view and your telling us from your POV, I respect that... Am I right in saying when you lost your mom Maven, Vinces mom passed around the same time, but him taking time to contact you was a touch of class, showed that despite what we see he does have a heart somewhere... Anyway, my opinion on Vince and WWE in general is not really a good one, I dont really like the culture of working when injured and I dont like the unwritten rule of finishing matches with when you suffer a serious injury, take your leg for example, you could have messed it up even more, I get the whole wanting to look tough, wanting to look hard, but if you never came back from a serious, would they continue signing checks for you if you were permanantly injured, they have a basic duty of care to the wrestlers and Chris Benoit is a perfect example of a failure in duty of care, which I wont go into right now. Vince McMahon was so concerned about becoming number 1 that he lost sight of a few things along the way, he was so ruthless that he fostered an attitude that stopping when injured is seen as weak for example... Mr McMahon on the other hand, probably the greatest heel in the of the business, but Vince McMahon out the ring, a morally reprehensible man, a predator, an abuser who would stomp over anybody and not think twice about what he was doing to hurt someone... He also has a habit of shafting people, he ran every Territory away, and hes been known to shaft people financially, I'm sure I read somewhere that he ripped Stu Hart off when Stsmpede was sold, Vince apparantly decided he wasn't going to pay anymore

Great video Mave, as usual. For a future video, I’d love to know what you and the other wrestlers thought about the long term health effects of being a wrestler and how you dealt with it. While you’re all very physically fit, there’s a lot of negatives that come with the territory. Such as steroid abuse, the slow physical damage and the threat of being injured very badly. Did anyone ever speak about those issues and how did the WWE support you all? Keep up the great work!

I got to say I appreciate your willingness to accept the evidence against someone even when it contradicts your experience with him. Often when situations come to light people tend to go "That's not the person I knew" which to a certain extent you also do but you then follow it up with "but I understand that there is evidence that says he was another person as well". People tend to want to believe that their view of a person is the whole story when in reality that is very rarely the case. My stepdad growing up always seemed like a perfectly caring, albeit flawed individual who rarely had anger issues, he smoked but he didn't really drink much, and while we did get spanked (we were 90s kids) it wasn't maliciously or excessively imo. In the last few years of his life we did end up having an argument that ended in me resenting him due to how he left things when him and my mom split but overall I still thought he was a decent person. Many years after his death I found out that during those years of growing up with him that he had been sexually abusing one of my sisters, up until that point I had no idea. My experience with him was one that has had an impact on who I am as a person, I remember playing Rock and Roll racing and Mortal Kombat on the SEGA genesis with him, I remember when he picked up a SEGA saturn and a bunch of games when the Saturn turned out to be a bust and all the games ended up being cheap as hell, I remember when we got a Playstation 1 and playing twisted metal 3 and 4 with him, I also remember when he and my mom split and I found out that he had gotten a playstation 2 and he had gotten Twisted Metal Black and feeling upset because I was missing out because at this point I wasn't talking to him anymore but one of my sisters (not the one who was sexually abused) would still go visit him on the weekends and she told me. Gaming has always been and will always be a big part of who I am and he is partially responsible for that. With that being said, I know that he was a monster and I'm glad that I didn't know then what I know now because if I knew then what I knew now I would be in prison because I would have killed him myself. I am incredibly protective of my sisters and will not standby while they are hurt. People can be two different people depending on your view but it's important to realize that you're only seeing part of who that person is.
@Brewbaby69

Dude I'm so sorry you went through that. If your step-dad was still alive and you confronted him, I'm sure he would've gladly would have diddled your lady parts as well so you wouldnt be such a jealous bitch who sits down when he pees. Why did your sister wait until he was dead to make it known that she was being abused? You, your mother, other siblings, other family members never saw any red flags or grew suspicious? Did his other victims come forward? Anecdots blind common sense. What you're saying is, Never trust your own gut feelings and personal experiences, believe all accusations made, guilty until proven innocent and even if they're proven inocent we will still treat them as if they're guilty, publicly disavow person as if they've already been found guilty while also pretending that you have personally seen all the physical evidence and know more about it than everyone else.

Like that you touch the subject, because is something that is becoming rare now days. We need people to learn and want to be more transparent and genuine to who they are with everyone. We will never know the extent of why people do things that seems so out-of-character, but we can push to know more of someone. People can work so hard to develop a relationship, but they can also be capable of destroying one in seconds.

There's a line from Star Trek The Next Generation, an episode called "The Drumhead". Towards the end Captain Picard said "Villains who twirl their mustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged." And I think that that applies in this situation. Of course Vince wouldn't show to you that he had this other side of him. Otherwise, people wouldn't want to do business with him. So with saying that, I definitely don't blame you for any of your interactions with Vince, and I don't think that anyone else should either. Of course, that's just my opinion, people are welcome to theirs. Hope you see this and that this makes sense. Keep up the good work!

I appreciate the honesty in this video and i enjoy your content. I do think you let yourself down commenting that you heard rumours but ignored them as they didn't involve you. Evil triumphs if good people do nothing is a common phrase that's easy to say and hard to act on. Faced with the same situation most of us may have done the same as you, and you could legitimately ask what could you have done. I don't know, i wasn't there. You'll know. However you didn't comment on whether you wished you'd stood up at that point. You seem a good man and i hope you have some regrets and are asking yourself could i have done something. What I do believe is that some leaders in the locker room did hear those rumours and did do nothing. The Rock, Austin, Cena, Undertaker, Kane - my favourite wrestlers all did nothing and that tarnishes them for me.

My perception of WWE hasn't changed much, Vince is definitely a creative genius but you can't be blessed with having a few curses that will take over eventually if you can't keep your demons in check. The issue is also that every big and important company suffers from these issues, it's just ppl tend to look away and try to let it rest. It just happens to be wrestlings time to expose those important figures in the upper echelon. Everything gets a return, karma is real in that sense. I mean all the wrestling fans with a bit of a brain inside their skull know that Vince is a absolute madman. He created insane storylines, had even more so insane ideas (incest with Steph, etc) and what not, but he also created some memorable things that will be in wrestling history forever. I do wish for the victims to find their inner peace and start living again free from all those burdens that Vince has created for a vast amount of time. But I also gotta that it didnt' really took me by surprise, nor did it shock me as it has shocked other people. Since Vinces departure I heard other wrestlers saying that the locker room is more relaxing now and everything seems more cooler than back in the days. Like the climate in the workplace has changed for the better and what not. In any case, you have a healthy and honest attitude towards the whole thing, Maven. Unlike other wrestlers who still call him a friend and smile and ignore the overwhelming evidence. Friendship or not, you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise you're no better. On the contrary, you are basically the same as your friend.

Maven I get why you gave the disclaimer about how you had some good interactions with Vince, but I don't think you should feel too guilty. We often times imagine abusers as either super creepy guys or like a hyper aggressive asshole, but it's not uncommon for abusers to be extra charming to those they are not abusing. It makes it even harder for the victim to get help as it's harder to believe the victim when the abuser is such a "nice" person to others. I appreciate that you do your best to center the focus on the victims throughout your input on this.

@@richardy2071 "Innocent until proven guilty" applies to the burden of proof required in law to convict someone of a crime and to allow the state to remove certain rights from that person. There must be a high bar when someone's liberty, rights, and possibly even life are at stake. That doesn't apply to individuals who can absolutely know that someone is a creepy, degenerate, abuser, and judge the person accordingly as we don't have the authority to deny them their rights.

@@oscarx-ray3545here is the thing though… a lot of those things were consensual. If those alleged in the complaint are not consensual, that is already rape, and no NDA can cover that, yet here are the accusers just asking for payment, while they can all go for punishment and and payment. All those people are much more concerned about the NDA over the fact that they were “victimised.”

Maven you've got some of the best content, so glad I subscribed, so glad you got out of the business with all your sanity. Loved Vince's creativity and passion but he overworked a lot of the workers and didn't give them enough slack which threw many off the edge I mean working on the road 350 days a year is too much and I will never forgive Vince for letting the show go on after Owen's fall, after everything he gave to the company shoed he had no respect for his workers
